Our Assessment and Rating visit was conducted on 22 and 23 June and we will receive the results at the end of July. As Term Three approaches, our centre numbers are increasing. If you wish to add extra days please see me in the office. Please note Monday 20 July is a pupil free day for the school. There are some fantastic parenting courses available to families from July 2015 onwards. Please keep a look out for the flyers around the centre and in our family library. If you are interested in a particular topic, please see an Educator and we will source some information for you. The children are very excited as they have been watching the progression of our new playground! Once the backyard has been completed, work will begin on the front yard. Please be aware that access to the centre during that time will be restricted to the back gates/door. Amanda McCorkill SUSTAINABILITY CORNER How can you help the environment simply? An afternoon tea is organised to raise funds for her trip. All proceeds will be donated to Enya’s Aspiration. Please join us to support Enya. From Miss Amee NUMERACY CORNER This month we have been focusing on encouraging children to express their emotions and feelings. We use the red and green words/actions strategy to help children understand if their words/actions are appropriate. This, in turn, assists the children to express their feelings about their peers’ actions, which is something they are becoming more confident in do- ‘Up’, ‘down’ and ‘next to’ are about position ing. If you would like to encourage this at home and would like some more information, please see myself or one of the other educators. What we do and what it means Mum: Down we go! LOOK WHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO! When we talk about ‘up’ and ‘down’, ‘over’ and ‘next to’, children are learning about the position of something. Over time children learn that there are words (for example upside down, next to, behind) which describe position. Later, children learn to pay attention to position, order and direction. They are key ideas in mathematics. HEALTHY EATING... Have you seen our new winter menu display on the front window? We have recently reviewed our menu to ensure we are providing your children with healthy options for breakfast and late snack. We would like you to assist us in our healthy eating discussions by providing your children with healthy options in their lunch boxes. We know that it is not always easy thinking of new and exciting lunch box ideas so we have collected some resources from ‘SNAC’ and they are on display in the family area. Please remember to also put a cold pack in your child’s lunch box to ensure food is safe to eat. CAROL’S CORNER The OSHC children and staff would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Stilwell for setting up our worm farm. It was very much appreciated by all of us! The children are going out to the worm farm every day with the scraps of food left over from afternoon tea. Please remember the school holidays begin next week so all holiday programs booking forms are now due to be returned to the centre. The children are looking forward to Science Alive, the Gym bus, the movies and Chipmunks as well as the inside and outside play and activities at the center. We hope to see you in the holidays! Here are some photos of our inside play experiences… We enjoy construction with Lego and creating spinning tops using the Knex. We have set up restaurants and picnics using the home corner and we are even making our own recipe book for the home corner! (see right). Over the past few weeks in OSHC, the children have taken an extended interest in all things science! The children have been investigating and experimenting with electricity, invisible ink and solar energy. We have also enjoyed learning about the life cycles of frogs, bees and birds! We have learnt about pollination and the important role bees play in the process. Here are our menus we have recreated. We have added family favourites and healthy options.
