Thanks to you, Doug completed the New Life Program on July 8, 2015. “I love my life now
and am very grateful to the Lighthouse for what they have helped me accomplish.”
DOUG’S STORY
I began a life of bad decisions when I
was around the age of eleven, and it
spiraled out of control, leading to 5 ½
years in the Oregon Youth Authority.
From there, it was another 12 years
of addiction to methamphetamines
before my life spiraled out of control
so much that I cried out to the Lord
for help.
I remember looking to the sky and
Jesus helped change my attitude and
work on my relationships.
I often think of Ephesians 4:24, “Put on
the new self, which, in the likeness of
God, has been created in righteousness
and holiness of the truth.” I tried to
stop my destructive lifestyle in many
different ways, but I never truly gave
my life over to the care of God until I
came to the New Life Program and put
on a new self.

pleading with God to take this
addiction away from me. In His grace,
it was within a month of that time
that I got on a Greyhound bus to
Idaho to join the New Life Program
at the Lighthouse. I arrived on June
18, 2014 and that was the date that I
surrendered to the Lord and asked him
into my heart.
It took a lot of dedication and
perseverance to stay and work on
overcoming my addiction, and I can
honestly tell you, it was a miracle that

MISSION: RESCUE
I am currently a full-time student at
the College of Western Idaho, enrolled
in a four-year program that will certify
me as an interpreter for the deaf; I

I love my life now and am very
grateful to the Lighthouse for what
they have helped me accomplish. I
draw my strength from Jesus and have
thanksgiving in my heart. Thank you,
Jesus. Thank you to the Mission, and
thank you to the Mission’s donors for
their gift to me of a new life.

MY RESCUE MISSION:
KEVIN MILLER, 580 KIDO:
The way I got involved with the Rescue
Mission is a personal story, like all of
ours. About eight years ago, I lost my
job just ten days before Christmas.
Before then, I have to admit that I
never really understood the idea of
homelessness. But I had been living
paycheck-to-paycheck and, if not for
help from my mom and dad, I would
have lost my home and been homeless
in Pittsburgh.
But I found a job and, when I came
to work in Idaho, I saw how hard
Reverend Bill Roscoe was working
at the Rescue Mission on behalf of
Shelter (ROL) for a week. We did
our show from there, and we started
Miller’s Mission to help provide for the
Mission’s needs. That morphed into
the Treasure Valley Turkey Challenge.
Our first year, we collected 20 turkeys,
then last year, we were given over
1,600!
For me, it is a blessing to be a part of
the Mission in a small sense. When
we do Miller’s Mission, now in both
the Spring and Fall, we turn the show
over to many of the Mission’s guests to
tell their stories. It is not easy for these
men and women to talk about where
they have been in life, but they come
and share their stories with us, and it’s
our day to be their cheerleaders.
“Come help me raise much
needed items for the kids the
Mission will serve this summer,
as well as veterans, too! Our goal
is to make a difference, whether
it’s through sunscreen, underwear,
socks, or t-shirts.” - Kevin

Mission: men and women who have
overcome addiction, those who have
overcome abuse, and the ones who
have risen from the lowest point they
could ever have imagined they would
find themselves. Through God’s grace,
their lives have blossomed.
That week that I lived at the Mission,
I would often see a particular family.
The wife and kids were staying at City
Light, and the husband was at the River
of Life. Their time together as a family
was when they came to ROL for meals.
That family is what this is all about for
me; providing for the very real needs
of men, women, and families just like
that one.
The people whose lives have been changed inspire me; men and women who have overcome
addiction, those who have overcome abuse, and the ones who have risen from the lowest point they
could ever have imagined they would find themselves . . . Their lives have blossomed.
homeless people in this community.
We had a chance to speak, and I
told him that I had been so close to
homelessness myself, I would like to
experience what it is actually like to be
there.
Two things inspire me about Miller’s
Mission. One is people who say,
“Kevin, I can only afford to give you
one turkey,” and that sacrifice - one
turkey - feeds a family in need.
So, I lived at the River of Life Men’s
The other is meeting the people whose

Many people give during the holidays,
but homelessness, drug abuse, and
domestic violence happen year round.
If you truly want to follow in the
footsteps of Christ, join me in helping
out the Rescue Mission today. In the
age of “I can’t”, we get to say, “I can
make a difference!” - Kevin
