Jonathan Weber 13th Annual Paul Reed Smith Guitars Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center Charity Weekend October 14 15 Baltimore Maryland 13th Annual Charity Weekend Dear Friend: For the past 12 years, our efforts to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families at Johns Hopkins has been nothing short of remarkable. The Paul Reed Smith Guitars and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center Charity Weekend has been recognized as the leading annual tradition in the region. Our event has evolved and sustained a presence rarely seen in charity events. We recognize that you are part of this success. This year, our goal is to raise over $500,000 for the Living With Cancer Resource Program at Johns Hopkins. We can only achieve this by continuing to bring our sponsors the very best. We are thrilled to announce Journey as the headliner of this year’s charity concert. We look forward to hosting you on Sunday evening, October 14th in the unparalleled setting of the historic Lyric Opera House for a special evening with one of the world’s biggest live and radio bands. A select group of sponsorships are available granting access to a VIP preshow reception with Journey, and the Journey of Hope Fashion Show hosted by Real Housewives’ Michaele Salahi. Sponsors will also have the option to join us Monday October 15th as we host our annual full field tournament at Woodholme Country Club. For the past 12 years, you have stood with us as we have supported patients and families in the fight of their lives. Our goal for this year is ambitious and our commitment to bring the biggest show of the year to Baltimore is unwavering. We ask you to please consider the chance to make a lasting and real impact in the lives of cancer patients and their families at Johns Hopkins. Thank you. The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins The name Johns Hopkins has become synonymous with excellence in research and patient care. Since its opening in 1973, the Cancer Center, based in Baltimore, has led the world in deciphering the mechanisms of cancer and new ways to treat it. The strength of their research and treatment programs was recognized early on by the National Cancer Institute, becoming one of the first to earn comprehensive cancer center status and recognition as a “Center of Excellence.” Helping Cancer Patients and Families The Living With Cancer Resource Program We are often asked, “what is the Living with Cancer Resource Program?” The answer is simple, it is about taking care of the whole patient and family. Today, the battle against cancer is happening under the microscope, on a molecular basis. At Hopkins, we recognize that a cancer diagnosis has the power to change an individual’s perspective forever. It is our mission to keep the person in the patient and not allow cancer to become the definition by which they define themselves. Patients and their families need tools to define and solve problems during what is often the most uncertain time in their lives. The Living with Cancer Resource Program was designed to offer supportive care programming to cancer patients and their families when they need it most - during and after their cancer treatment. The proceeds from this event have established individual and group programming focused on helping patients and their families build bridges back to wellness. Today, patients and families have access to the latest in guided imagery, meditation and massage therapy offered in a supportive environment by experts who specialize in cancer. Several support groups for brain cancer, blood cancers and prostate cancer have been established, allowing patients and families the opportunity to explore and share with others with similar diseases how to manage day to day. Many patients and families benefit from educational classes taught by expert social workers on topics like managing finances and can work directly with social worker to apply for government and private financial resources. This type of service ensures that when their cancer has been beaten they aren't saddled with the reality of economic disability where the threat of foreclosures and bankruptcy loom. Your support assures that the burden of cancer is not something that our patients and families face alone.
