Yamaha Utility ATV range Engineered to work hard. Functionality, flexibility, durability and massive capability springing from a rock-solid platform of engineering excellence: these are the elements which give a Yamaha Utility ATV its authenticity. 18 Even supreme ability has no value if it cannot be easily deployed. Practicality is the catalyst which makes every Yamaha ATV so uniquely and effortlessly capable. The heartbeat of every Yamaha ATV. 20 Yamaha Engine Technology The human body is a remarkable mechanism. It functions on most parts of the planet’s surface across a wide spectrum of temperatures and pressures. The heart is the body’s engine. Air, water and food fuel it. A Yamaha powered product is also a remarkable mechanism. Its functionality extends across a wider range than the human’s, with a far greater performance potential and a much higher expectation of reliability on land, water, snow, mud or racetrack bitumen. At the heart of every Yamaha is its engine. Air, oil and petrol are its physical requirements. In return, a Yamaha engine must deliver the highest level of quality and technology, founded on a total commitment to engineering excellence. The Yamaha tuning fork is a symbol of our determination to keep this beating heart healthy and clean. To ensure that happens, Yamaha engines are the focus of a competition-based programme of intensive research and development which began over fifty years ago and which has grown exponentially to meet new and ever bigger challenges on land, water, snow, mud and racetrack. Challenges not just to be the best and the fastest, but also to be socially responsible. Each Yamaha engine is designed and built to provide the optimum package of performance, ease of use, reliability and social awareness in the vehicle it powers. It is this harmonisation of response with responsibility that makes a Yamaha engine so special. Engine shown is the power unit from the Grizzly 700 Utility ATV. A 686cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve engine block. But what does that mean for you? Well it means that there is a wide knowledge base across Europe with thousands of people owning, servicing and using Yamaha utility ATVs. Popularity also means bigger stocks of things like genuine spare parts and specialised equipment suppliers making bespoke products for Grizzlys. Not to mention a healthy used market and widespread network of authorised dealers. Yamaha ATVs are popular for a reason and you can trust these ATVs like everyone else in Europe does. Technology that helps you every day Yamaha take pride in developing technology which is useful. All Yamaha innovations are designed to make your life easier and help you at work and in your leisure time. Innovation started From shaft drive to EPS, Yamaha was first early for Yamaha ATV with shaft drive and electric starting appearing first on the Yamaha YTM225DX in 1983. Many firsts were to follow such as the Pro-Hauler; the first ATV to feature a cargo bed and EPS - Electric Power Steering - which was another world first for Yamaha when it appeared first on the 700cc Grizzly in 2006 and is now featured on 550cc and 450cc machines. Yamaha brings you the most innovative technology to make riding an ATV better for hard working riders and long days in the saddle. Benefits that you will appreciate when you ride an ATV all day, every day. Quality – the best components Using an ATV in a tough outdoor environment is demanding on the rider and the ATV. Driving off road demands top quality components, which is why Yamaha is focussed on making sure Quality that’s more every part is manufactured to the very than skin deep highest possible standard. With Yamaha you know that the strictest quality control ensures that every component of your ATV is designed and engineered for the toughest environments and the hardest use. By adhering to these high quality standards throughout the machine’s production Yamaha create an ATV which you can trust to help you get the job done. From the transmission to the electronics, the suspension to the brakes, every part of a Yamaha ATV is intended to give the rider total confidence and peace of mind. Fast, efficient parts service Yamaha is a global brand, so that means global back-up which is great, but what you also need is efficient local support and that is what Yamaha are so good at it- using global resource for practical Global parts supply local advantage. ATV parts are centrally support network stocked in a giant European warehouse and can be delivered to the UK the next day assuming the order is placed in time. In the gruelling all terrain working environment service and maintenance is critical so having an efficient and effective parts back-up means that any down time impact from servicing and maintenance is kept to a minimum. Important for leisure riders and absolutely essential for agricultural and professional applications; Yamaha’s first class back-up is something which is ready and waiting. Residuals – value that lasts Yamaha ATVs are Europe’s favourite Utility ATV and people recognise the quality of engineering behind the Yamaha brand. Any initial financial gain from choosing a lower cost, lesser Durability ensures known, or inferior brand is often short high resale values lived and when it comes to replacement or selling on the second hand market these ATVs are likely to have deteriorated to such an extent that they have little or no resale value. When you upgrade to a Yamaha the high residual value, either in the private market or as a part exchange, can be the difference between getting the new ATV you want or getting an ATV on a budget. More money for your used Yamaha ATV means a bigger deposit for your new ATV and you can think about the accessories or the EPS you wanted. Carrying – Sharing the burden The list of things that you want to carry whilst using your ATV is often a long one, so storage and load carrying capacity are always key concerns for Class leading rack load utility users. Yamaha make sure that you can load everything you need with carrying capacities class leading carrying capacities on many of our Grizzly models. Yamaha racks are coated in a wrinkled paint which is heavy duty and scratch resistance so it can stand up to the biggest loads. As if that wasn’t enough you also have heavy duty tow ball mounts so you can tow trailers and equipment behind the ATV. Other models have on board storage compartments for phones, keys and other valuables. Yamaha ATVs are ready to shoulder some of the burden and lighten your load so you can ride and work efficiently. Durability – essential for work When you are working outdoors durability is the most essential requirement for your equipment. Durability is something which you don’t notice immediately, but as the Chosen by the MOD, weeks and months roll on and the proven by the army seasons come and go; it is durability which you will cherish most on your ATV. And Yamaha have earned their reputation in the toughest of environments. The MOD chose the Grizzly 450 to equip the British Army having tried alternatives in the past. Power and torque An engine’s maximum horsepower is delivered at a relatively high point in the rev range. Torque is twisting power, the power that you actually feel on acceleration. Peak torque is always generated at lower engine speeds than peak power. The availability of high torque at low rpm is a very desirable attribute in an ATV as it optimises traction. Yamaha’s 4-stroke ATV engines are all designed specifically for use in our Utility ATV models and produce high torque at low rpm. Auto CVT-type transmission Yamaha’s Ultramatic transmission automatically provides the optimum drive ratio so instant power is always available. A sprag clutch engages when slowing down, giving downhill engine braking to the driven wheels, for controlled descents. 4WD Auto Hi-Lo IRS Diff Lock EPS EFI 4WD On-Command 2WD/4WD and front differential lock Yamaha’s push-button On-CommandTM 2WD/4WD system lets you switch between drive modes, giving near-instantaneous transition from cruising to climbing. Pushing the Red button in selects 4WD. Some models also feature a Differential Lock which acts on the front wheels to give added traction in extreme conditions. When in 4WD mode simply move the safety cover over the Red button to reveal the Yellow Diff Lock button and press to engage. Diff Lock EFI Yamaha Electronic Fuel Injection The EFI system in a Yamaha utility ATV works with a micro-computer to ensure that a precisely metered flow of fuel/air mixture enters the engine’s combustion chamber at all times and under all conditions, to deliver an optimised mix of smooth power and economy. LCD data display Besides speed (settable to mph or km/h) Yamaha LCD data panels have an engine hour meter, giving an accurate picture of usage. Other readouts indicate time, overall mileage, trip meter, fuel status and, on 4WD models, transmission mode. Rear Multi-disc wet brake Yamaha’s sealed oil-bathed multi-disc rear braking setup protects the system from clogging by mud or stones thrown up from the ATV’s wheels, providing a durable, and low maintenance alternative to conventional brakes, that will even work if submerged.. Handlebar switch cluster The left handlebar mounted switch unit houses the starter button and stop switch, plus controls for the lights and horn. For 4WD models with Diff Lock there is also a button to Override the Diff Lock rev-limiter. Hi-Lo Gearbox drive selection Manual selection for Forward and Reverse. Some models also feature Hi and Low ratio options for the forward gears. The Grizzly 450, 550 and 700 models include a Park position which mechanically locks the gearbox to prevent the wheels turning. EPS Electric Power Steering (EPS) Yamaha’s speed-sensitive EPS system greatly reduces the physical effort of steering while also assisting the rider control the ATV when encountering bumps and stones on the trail. This extra comfort is particularly noticeable on longer working days. IRS Independent suspension Most Yamaha ATVs have adjustable double A-arm independent front suspension, while IRS models also have independent rear suspension allowing each wheel to react independently to uneven terrain and optimise handling for different riders and cargo loads.
