Cagli W 273 R 63
Cagli is located along the ancient “via Flaminia” on the slopes of
Monte Petrano near the confluence of the Burano and Bosso rivers. The
area is also characterised by the presence of the eminent Catria and
Nerone mountain chains.
One of the entrances to the city features the rather imposing Ponte
Mallio Roman bridge. The symbol of Cagli is the elliptical Keep or
“Torrione” built by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, as part of the XV
Century fortifications. Today, the keep is the home of the Centre for
Contemporary Scultpure. A precious fresco by Giovanni Santi, father of
Raphael, is still preserved in the church of San Domenico. The city's
theatre is also worthy of note. Information: Tourist Office, tel. 0721

Tecchie woods
The Tecchie Woods can be found in the Serre di Burano area of
Cantiano and extend over approximately 180 hectares. The prevalent
species are the Adriatic oak and beech. The woods were established in
1986 and have been included in the oases of WWF Italia. A rich
collection of fauna and flora characterise the woods. Information:
Tourist Office, tel. 0721 788321.
Monte Catria mountain range
It consists of Monte Acuto (W
W 1668), Monte Tenetra (W
W 1236) and
Monte Catria which, with its 1,701 metres, is the highest peak in the
northern sector of the Umbro-Marchigiano Apennine range. Numerous
species of mountain flora make the summit of Monte Catria a place of
notable botanical interest. Further down, instead, the slopes are
covered with precious woods, mostly beech. The ideal place for
climbers far away from the noise of traffic. Information: Comunità
Montana del Catria e Nerone, tel. 0721 7877521.
Frontone W 420 R 73
