WERFA Swing Night - Saturday 5th December
Swing along to Christmas at our special WERFA vintage dance evening
on 05 December – our local experts, Ruth and Martin Ellis, will host the
evening and wow us with some swing dancing, as well as encouraging us
to participate in a fun class. They will be supported by a live band, Graham
Hughes and the Sunshine Kings, who are a Top London jazz and swing band
inspired by the music of New Orleans, the singing and dancing of the 1920’s,
and the dixieland and trad revivals in America and the UK. The Sunshine
Kings brings it all together into a band that makes people of all ages dance,
clap, tap toes, and go home with a smile. Great for dancing, great for
listening, great for anyone wanting to have a good time.
8pm to late, bar open, and special Christmas buffet. Get your tickets now
to avoid disappointment, only £15 including food, call 07510 632109 or

Review of the Silent Films Screening at
WERFA – Wednesday 7th October 2015
A great turnout for the inaugural event of the Isleworth Film Festival,
especially considering it was a mid-week evening and the competing
attraction of The Great British Bake Off Final!
The evening began with an informative presentation about the history of
Worton Hall Studios hosted by Ed Harris, author of “Britain’s Forgotten Film
Factory”. Ed then presented some selected scenes from “The Unwanted”,
an epic tale of love and war, and very amusingly and expertly described the

plotline and the film-making techniques and locations.
Following a short intermission there then followed a full length screening of
“A Couple of Down and Outs”, the moving story of a former World War One
artilleryman who rescues his faithful old war horse from the slaughterhouse.
Louis Rugg, a sixth form student at Isleworth & Syon School added a soundtrack
composed of his own original music which totally captured the essence of the
movie and added tremendously to the audience’s enjoyment of the film.
Please watch out for news of further events on the Isleworth Film Festival

An Abbatastic evening!
All in the Pavilion were in holiday mood at the very end of summer as a full house joined in
the perennial favourite Abba songs during the screening of hit musical ‘Mamma Mia! ‘. From
the start – a solo performance of ‘Thank you for the music’ from Katie Langley of the London
Youth Choir – to the finale with its line-up of our own singing and dancing queens (and kings)
the evening of 19 September was terrific fun with added 70s style.
Enthusiastic singing from audience alternated with quieter moments absorbed in the film’s
story about young and not-so young romantic antics, performed by a surprising set of A-list
actors in beautiful Greek locations and with a joyful upbeat ending.
The interval carried on the Greek theme with delicious moussaka and salad made by Kate
Mcsherry followed by Joyce Diment’s Greek apple pie.
Costume Competition winners: Dave and Marion Huffer in colourful holiday mode with
Dave sporting a Greek slogan on his T shirt. Runner up was David Laskey as goatherd
(accompanied by bell).
