Then create a peekaboo accent for your next scrapbook page. Don’t forget to share it with your customers and offer to demonstrate it if they host a workshop. Make It Happen O N YOUR OWN • Spend some time developing a brand for your Stampin’ Up! business (page 3). Work on a tagline and a 30-second commercial and practice until they are polished. • Check out the bookmarks in the ‘Corner Catcher’ article (page 1). Create a bookmark at your workshops this month, then give it to the hostess. You may inspire another customer to host a workshop. AS A GROUP • Read ‘Make Monday a Fun Day’ (page 2) at your next group meeting. Make a list of things you can do to make your Monday more productive and fun. • Talk to other demonstrators about how they use Simply Sent in their workshops (page 7). Share ideas so you have plenty of possibilities you can incorporate into your workshops. orner CCatcher Whether you know a budding bookworm, an avid student or a magazine enthusiast, there is always someone out there who could use a bookmark. And since bookmarks can be created for almost any occasion, they make a fantastic project for your workshops. Demonstrate a bookmark featuring a flower, a hot air balloon, an elephant or even a dump truck and during your demonstration be sure to mention the possibilities these fun projects offer. Tell your guests, ‘I love making simple paper projects like this. They’re so easy to customise for individual friends and family members, even with something as simple as a colour change.’ If you plan to feature one In Color per workshop, one package of Designer Printed Brads will last through five workshops (with eight guests each). As you’re wrapping up your demonstration, pull out a personalised hostess gift you made ahead of time. Spend a little extra time on this gift and add a few additional techniques. Guests will love to see the additional touches that went into creating this masterpiece. Someone there may want to learn more about embossing or the Color Spritzer Tool. But no matter what, they’re sure to appreciate the way you treat your hostess. Plan a workshop around our Life Is Beautiful bookmark and invite guests to create it as a gift. It’s a great opportunity to share the joy of creating handmade gifts—and to get a few punches and In Color products in their hands. Our Life Is Beautiful bookmark makes a perfect Make & Take for a workshop. 1 Score diagonal lines from top middle to centre of each side of Crumb Cake Card Stock. I traveled to several different major cities and at each city I did pretty much the same thing—visited craft and scrapbooking stores, walked through malls, spent time in restaurants—all with one goal in mind: to meet creative people who would help make our vision goals become a reality. We found dozens of amazing women who joined our Stampin’ Up! family and became the heart of the thriving business we operate in Canada today! This month marks our 10-year anniversary in Canada, and I am thrilled with and grateful for our growth and progress! What we did in Canada—and the success we experienced there—set the groundwork for our continued growth in our other international markets. I’m so grateful for these demonstrators who took a chance on a company most of them had never heard of because they sensed what we were about then—and what we are still about today— loving what we do, sharing what we love and enjoying worthwhile accomplishments as we make a difference. I congratulate our Canadian demonstrators—and each of you for that matter—on reaching this significant milestone. We each play an essential part as we work together to inspire creativity and strengthen relationships. I look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with Stampin’ Up! family members around the world as we continue to grow and make our vision goals a reality. 2 IMPRESSIONS • APRIL 2012 Make Monday a Fun Day! People are as individual as snowflakes—but when most of us sit down to write goals, we often have the same one: manage our time better. If that’s on your list, try a few of these tips to make the most of your Monday and get your week off to a more successful start. MAKE IT FUN If you dread Mondays (and we all do!), schedule yourself a treat every Monday morning. That treat can be anything you would look forward to, such as a pastry with your morning coffee, a special smoothie or a 15-minute walk around your neighborhood. Whatever it is, make sure it’s fun! MAKE A LIST Make your weekly to-do list on Monday morning and display it in your craft area. PULL REPORTS Monday is the perfect time to pull reports for yourself and your downline and review them for any action you need to take for that week. You could also do this one Monday per month—just make sure it’s the same Monday every month. CHECK THE UPCOMING SCHEDULE Check the Stampin’ Up! website every Monday for announcements or upcoming events that will affect the coming week. PLAN YOUR TIME IN CHUNKS ‘Chunking’ your time helps you focus on and accomplish one thing at a time. For example, use your Monday morning to schedule your office hours for the coming week and schedule specific tasks for those hours. A sample schedule could look like this: Daily, 9:30–10:00 AM: check and return e-mail and spend some time surfing your favorite websites. Set specific and limited time for this activity—it can easily eat up a lot more time if you don’t stick to your schedule! Tuesday, 10:00–11:00 AM: make phone calls to downline members, customers, potential hostesses, etc. Having a consistent time set for this activity will help you to actually do it! Thursday, 10:00–11:00 AM: workshop preparation. Thursday, 7:00–9:00 PM: workshop. Using your Monday wisely can set the tone for a successful week. You’ll be amazed how much more you’ll enjoy your business when it runs smoothly and allows you time for the other areas of your life! Stand Out from the Crowd Billabong. Apple. Disney. Starbucks. When you read or hear those words, there’s a whole lot more that comes to mind than the words themselves. These businesses have established strong brands that identify themselves from other businesses. Their brands give their customers a story about what to expect when they do business with them. Brands can be powerful; they can help you stand out, drive customer loyalty and make your business more attractive. As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, you can create and maximise a powerful brand as well. Read on for a few tips and project ideas to get you started. • D ISCOVER YOURSELF Branding yourself starts with thinking critically about yourself and your business and how others view it. Ask yourself these questions: What’s my passion? What do I value? What are my strengths? What do I want to accomplish with my business? What do I want others to experience with my business? What do others currently think about my business? Make your brand authentic. • R EFRESH—EVERYTHING! Once you’ve established your brand, refresh yourself—from your look to your workshops. Refreshing your business with your brand in mind will give you the boost you need to get off to a great start. Buy a new outfit that makes you feel confident and wear it to your workshops this month. Try something new or add a fun element to your events that helps show off your brand. • G ET PERSONAL Creating and carrying business cards is a must. Why not go beyond the boring old contact information and have it also showcase your brand? Create a personalised name stamp with a catchy tagline. Or, you could create a cute card case that shows off our products and your brand and style. Another way to share your contact information while showing off your brand is by creating a fun magnet for the fridge. •C REATE A BUZZ Get the word out about your business— and while doing so, make sure your brand shines through. Develop a ‘30-second commercial’ you can tell people about what you do and what you offer as a demonstrator. Create coupons you can e-mail or hand out that can be redeemed at a workshop. Get in on different social networks and communities and post projects and updates. Hold a fundraiser for a local cause. You get the idea. As you establish and deliver your brand, you’ll find customers who value you. Take some time to think about your own brand and jot down your thoughts and ideas. Then, create a business card or another item with your contact information to hand out. Congratulations to the following demonstrators on their title promotions for December 2011! APRIL 2012 • IMPRESSIONS 5 Peekaboo, see It’s a game most of us played when we were children but the fun doesn’t have to end just because we’re grown-ups. Scrapbooking is all about catching people’s attention, preserving memories and making memories enjoyable. Adding elements of fun—like the hidden pieces featured this month—make scrapbooking even more entertaining! We make adding an interactive window on your pages (or any stamping project for that matter) quick and easy with our punches and Big Shot dies. Consider demonstrating this idea at your next Stampin’ Up! get-together so you can personally show your customers how easily they can add an interactive element to their projects. You might say, ‘With punches you can create windows on your scrapbook pages that are both elegant and fun.’ PUNCH ALTERNATIVES Although punches make creating peekaboo frames quick and easy, Stampin’ Up! also offers other products ideally suited for making peekaboo elements. Our So Happy Together page hides a tag inside a pocket made from the Petite Pocket Bigz Die. And several of our other dies can be used to create fun windows and frames that will add an element of surprise to your scrapbook pages. Check out the peekaboo journalling underneath the main photo on this page— 6 IMPRESSIONS • APRIL 2012 an extra creative element that makes the most of the space by adding important details and one last photo! Choosing what to hide behind your peekaboo accents can be as fun as creating them! Additional photos, journalling, stamped images, memorabilia (tickets, receipts, reports cards, etc.) . . . the surprises tucked behind these interactive page elements are the perfect way to finish off your project. Of course, making pages interactive means that you will need to be able to peek behind the window. That’s easily done—simply pull the page out of the page protector or carefully cut out a hole in the page protector, making it even easier for people to play the peekaboo game. This also put her in the position of building her business at the same time she was becoming acclimated to a new country. ‘Over the past five and a half years, I’ve learned that it takes time to build up your business it does not usually happen without some hard work and disappointments’, she explains. ‘Don’t be discouraged if you only have two people register for a class—they are two potential new customers or workshop hostesses.’ PAM JORGENSEN Manager Dimboola, Australia Autumnal April marks the start of the Stampin’ Up! year . . . and the start of the Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue—28 pages of new products and inspiration. Share this publication with your customers and invite them to host a workshop so they can earn their favourite new products for free! Hostesses are a crucial part of Pam’s business. ‘I provide two annual appreciation events—one for all customers and one for anyone that has been a hostess’, she explains. ‘I always have lots of door prizes which may be hostess sets I have received or other products purchased with hostess dollars. During hostess appreciation I have awards for achieving workshop milestones. I always make sure to give a special gift and thank you to the last hostess of the catalogue year. I decided to implement this as many times people want to hold off having a workshop until the new catalogue starts— this way there is a reward and no one will know who that will be until the event.’ Pam initially hesitated to share the Stampin’ Up! opportunity because she didn’t want to hear the word ‘no’. That’s changed. ‘Now, I go into any situation with the attitude that I am a gardener and am planting the seeds for new demonstrators and team members. The seeds I plant may be sharing the opportunity through the catalogue tour, having readily available recruit packets or hosting opportunity nights,’ she shares. ‘I always share what it is like to be a demonstrator including the great rewards such as the pampering of the incentive trip. Now, as any gardener knows not all seeds grow into plants, so I am no longer disheartened if someone says no, they are not interested. Because a no may mean I’m not interested right now.’ ‘I often utilize the Color Coach to find colour combination I may not normally choose. I always take it with me to workshops and find that once people see how great it is, they purchase it!’ Watch for projects marked with this logo. These are excellent choices for workshop demonstrations. Cards marked with this logo can be completed in 5–8 minutes. Scrapbook pages marked with this logo can be completed in under 15 minutes.
