Parent Handbook 2016 Monday—Friday * May 23 - July 29 Hours: 8 a.m.—5 p.m. WEEKLY THEMES What We Do: Summer just wouldn’t be the same without the excitement and adventure of Kids’ University! In 2016, the spirit and tradition of Kids’ University day camp continues with a summer full of games, arts and crafts, field trips, swimming and new friendships. The mission of Kids’ University is to provide a safe and wholesome environment for kids to come and enjoy their summer. Planned activities for each week will be ageappropriate, varying in content based on the age of the child. Please note that Kids’ University is a summer long day camp and is not considered a specialty camp. Even though each week has a theme, campers will participate in various activities throughout the week that do not necessarily always pertain to the theme. Such activities include but are not limited to swimming, recreation, park time and computer lab. DATES Jumping into Summer! May 23-27 I Like to Move It, Move It! All of our counselors Show have passed a comprehensive background check and are first aid Final Fling! July 25-29 and CPR certified. Certified lifeguards and your child’s counselors are always present during their time at the outdoor Georgia College pool. Campers must be comfortable in the water and able to swim unassisted – with or without the use of floaties. Registration Policies: Register for one week, all 10 weeks or any combination of weeks. Registration is on a first -paid, first-enrolled basis. Children must be 5 years old by their first day of camp and will not be guaranteed a place in Kids’ University until the registration fee is paid. Refunds will not be granted unless Continuing Education is notified by 4:45 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to each week’s class initial meeting. A signed waiver of liability and emergency contact form are required. Choose which weeks you would like to attend, from one week to all ten weeks! Registration is on a first-paid, first-enrolled basis. Children will not be guaranteed a place in Kids’ University until the full registration fee is paid. Refunds will not be granted unless the Continuing Education is notified by 4:45 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to each week’s initial class meeting. Sign up for 9 weeks and receive your last week at half price! Large Family Discount: $7 off per student for families with three or more children enrolled at the same time. ALL WAIVERS AND EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE REGISTRATION OFFICE BEFORE YOUR CHILD MAY PARTICIPATE IN KIDS’ UNIVERSITY. Enrollment is limited in each class to allow for a low child -to-instructor ratio and a quality experience. Register early for additional weeks to ensure your space is reserved! WHAT TO BRING Sack lunch and additional snacks, if desired. Beverages and an afternoon snack will be provided. Please do not send lunches that need to be cooked or put in the refrigerator. Comfortable clothing appropriate for outdoor activities. Students will need to wear shoes that tie or fasten and that can get dirty. Socks and shoes must always be worn. Flip flops and sandals may limit participation in certain activities. On Monday, please bring an extra pair of shoes (these can be flip flops), bathing suit, towel, and a change of clothes to be left in your child’s classroom until the end of the week. Students in the rising kindergarten classroom should bring a blanket and small pillow for rest-time. Bag or backpack to contain personal items. Hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle and bug spray (if desired) If needed bring arm swimmies, lifejacket and/or swimming goggles No electronic games, cell phones, radios, etc. are allowed. Campers should have ALL personal gear marked with the owner’s name. Page 3 DROP-OFF & PICK-UP Drop-off will always occur in your child’s designated classr oom no ear lier than 7:45 a.m. and pr eferably no later than 8:30 a.m. Your child’s classroom location will be on your registration receipt. If you expect to arrive later than 8:30 a.m. your child’s class may not be in their classroom so PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILD OFF BY THEMSELVES. Chappell Hall—For drop off and pick up at Chappell Hall please feel free to use the 30 minute reserved parking places in front of Russell Auditorium (adjacent to Chappell Hall). There will also be additional temporary parking reserved for Kids’ University in front of Chappell Hall in the morning and afternoon. These spaces will have a 10 minute time limit and will only be available 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-5:15 p.m. Your child will need to be signed in and out by the teacher each day. Always let the teacher know when you arrive and when you leave. Pick-up occur s no later than 5:15 p.m. for all pr ogr ams. A $10 fee will be assessed for each late pick up violation. If you will need to pick your child up prior to 5 p.m. please coordinate the location of pickup with your child’s teacher. The schedule changes on a weekly basis and we use a great deal of our large campus! All individuals picking up the child must be on the approved pick-up list which is located on your emergency information form. Be prepared to show a Photo I.D. if asked when arriving to pick up the child. YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND KIDS’ UNIVERSITY UNTIL HE OR SHE ARE REGISTERED FOR THAT WEEK, FULLY PAID AND HAS ALL WAIVERS AND FORMS COMPLETED. The teachers will provide a weekly newsletter that will update you on these events. FIELD TRIPS All transportation is provided by Georgia College transportation services. You will receive trip details from your child’s teacher at the beginning of the week that each trip is planned. Other local field trips to places such as the movie theatre, skating rink, and more may be arranged at a later date. THURSDAY, June 9 — Rising 4-7th Graders only UGA Outdoor Recreation Center, Athens, GA Depart at 8:15 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. THURSDAY, June 30 — All Classes Dauset Trails, Jackson, GA Depart at 8:15 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. TUESDAY, July 12 — Rising K-3rd Graders Only Chick-Fil-A, Milledgeville, GA Cow Appreciation Day Depart at 10:15 a.m. and return by 11:45 a.m. DON’T FORGET! 1. Bring all items on What-To-Bring-List (pg. 2) Page 5 Information, Policies, & Procedures Requests for transfers, refunds, or changes must be received by 4:45 p.m. the Wednesday prior to each week’s initial camp start date. Any class not meeting the minimum enrollment by the Wednesday before it begins will be cancelled, and you will be contacted Thursday by e-mail and/or phone. A full refund will be issued or credited towards another week. Parents of children whose behavior disrupts the camp will be given one warning. If the disruptive behavior persists, the child will be dismissed from the camp without a refund. Do not drop off or pick up your child without notifying the child’s teacher. All individuals picking up their child must be on the approved pick-up list. Health & Illness Children with any of the following symptoms should not attend the program. If your child develops any of these symptoms, the staff will contact a parent or authorized adult to immediately pick up the child. A temperature above 100 degrees. Temperature must be normal (98.6F) for 24 hours before returning to camp. Fever, vomiting, diarrhea Exposure to communicable diseases such as severe sore throat, pink eye, etc. If your child has to take any medications during camp hours, they need to be provided in the original labeled bottle with the child’s name, dosage, and prescription information. If your child needs Epi-pens, inhalers, or other specified emergency medicines we need to have a supply to keep at camp for the duration of the week. Bringing these items back and forth each day could result in forgetting such an important item. Written instructions and a plan for the use of the treatment must be on file upon beginning camp. Please notify us of any food allergies so that we may prepare daily snacks accordingly and prevent exposure when we have large groups eating together for lunch. If your child receives any individual assistance at school, has a behavior chart or plan, or has any mental or physical limitations, it is very helpful for us to know and plan ahead for this to make the experience the best it can be. The information will only be shared as necessary with staff that are working directly with your child. It is also helpful if parents will share successful techniques that have worked in similar settings in the past. Parents may be asked to attend a planning meeting with staff to prepare for and follow up on issues. Parents must fill out an emergency information form and a waiver of liability before children will be allowed to attend.
