Bridge to the Future: A Summer Training Program
MRCI’s Bridge to the Future Summer Training Program provides both classroom instruction and real
world work experiences to help participants navigate our world of work.
Through the utilization of the “Why Try” program curriculum,
focus is placed on the concepts of boundaries, assertiveness,
goal setting, motivation and personal choices. Participants will
learn those tools needed to build self-confidence, independence
and accountability. The program will additionally include
techniques of basic computer searches, training in basic money
management and training in using public transportation systems.
Participants will have a community work site experience
four days a week; they will receive an hourly stipend. The
participants will go in groups of three to two different
community work sites in four weeks. They will be
accompanied by a training consultant who will remain
on site to provide direction and immediate feedback.
MRCI WorkSource recognizes the value in offering
programs that support people in navigating into the
world of work. Bridge to the Future is designed to provide
those necessary tools. It is grounded in the concept of building
meaningful and productive partnerships with participants,
their teams, families, school staff, Vocational Rehabilitation
Services and the private business sector. The Bridge to the
Future Program was developed to provide participants with
the option to learn, explore, learn socialization techniques,
identify interests and abilities and have solid exposure to
achieving success in the world of work.
A planning conference will be scheduled upon program
completion. A written assessment of participants’ work abilities
and interests will be provided for planning purposes.
