SUMMER 2016 Girl Experience Guide Programs · Events · Activities The Program Department at Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana is dedicated to making every girl’s experience in Girl Scouts unforgettable. This summer, join us for a variety of family events and outdoor adventures, and continue the Girl Scout experience with our one-, three- and five-day programs. Have fun with science, jump into interactive stories and perform skits about your favorite fairy tales. FireWORK-Shop (Brownie/Junior) Multiple Locations, 6pm - 8 pm, $10 July 4th fireworks are a highlight of the holiday! You might think fireworks are magic, but really, they’re science! Come make your own fireworks (without the danger factor) and celebrate with a bang! Bronze/Silver/Gold Award Workshops (Brownie-Ambassador) Multiple Locations, 1-1.5 hours, $5 Get the tools and inspiration you need to achieve the Highest Awards in Girl Scouting! Leaders will get the tools needed to guide girls through the process; Scouts will soar through the basics and start brainstorming their projects. Girl Scout Coding (Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 6pm - 9 pm, $20 Unlock the code to limitless possibilities for Minecraft! Discover how to create your own world in Minecraft – a.k.a a Server. Gain the coding skills you need to be the master of your own Minecraft world. Angry Birds Engineering (Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 2pm - 4 pm, $10 Did you know that physics can make you an Angry Bird champion? Build a catapult, knock down structures and make your own angry bird to take home. Amusement Park Madness (Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 6pm - 9 pm, $12 If you love amusement parks, this is for you! Explore the physics of roller coasters, the science of 3D shows and design your very own amusement park. Custom Programs Don’t forget… we can bring almost any of our programs to you! Use this summer to complete a Journey, earn a badge, or just do any of our fun programs in your neighborhood! One popular option… Custom Singalong! We’ll come to you and teach Girl Scout camp songs! $5/girl- song booklet and patch included. Add on s’mores for an additional $3/person! Patch Program Daisy, Brownie, and Junior troops can kick off their Highest Awards work with this fun, troop-led patch program. Play fun, high-energy games about Highest Awards history, check out colorful comic strips about real-life Highest Awards projects and create your own superhero comic strip envisioning a future Highest Award project. Digital Photographer (Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 1pm - 4 pm, $15 Say cheese! Snap digital pictures with your Girl Scout friends, edit them and create art with your photos to share in an art show. Camp CEO (Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors) Camp Butternut Springs, August 7-12 $150/Girl Scouts, $180/non-Girl Scouts Now taking applications for this unique five-day overnight camp for teen girls! Join a select group of young women to listen, learn and share your dreams with some of Chicagoland’s most accomplished women professionals. Scientists, artists, engineers, chefs, lawyers and finance experts (to name a few) will hold collaborative workshops throughout the week, and then gather around the campfire at night to hear about your ideas, fears and hopes for the future. Day Camps Robotics Days (2 Days, Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 9 am-3 pm, $60 Girl Scout LEGO Robotics is famous for a reason! See what all the fuss is about as you program and build your own robot using LEGO Mindstorm EV3 kits, then finish with a mini-LEGO Robotics competition for your friends and family. Jedi Training Camp (3 Days, Junior/Cadette) Camp Greene Wood, July 6-8, 9am-3pm, $75 The force is strong with the Girl Scouts! Young Padawans spend their time at Jedi Training Camp building lightsabers, learning Jedi Mind Control tricks and working with droids. Help bring balance to the Force! Fractured Futures: Exploring The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Maze Runner (3 Days, Junior/Cadette) Friendship Center, Aug 10-12, 9am-3 pm, $75 The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and Divergent all take place in a dystopian future- a world that is bleaker than the one we live in today. Explore the lives of your favorite characters from these novels as you make a meal from District 12, run through an obstacle course to see if YOU are Divergent, and more! Frozen Summer Adventures (5 Half Days, Daisy/Brownie) Vernon Hills, June 13-17, 9 am-12 pm , $60 Chill out this summer with your Girl Scout friends! In this Frozen– inspired program, you’ll jump into the science of snow, discover the magical powers of Elsa and help Kristoff feed Sven. You’ll even have time to shop Oaken’s Big Summer Blowout Sale! Camp Shark Tank (4 Days, Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 9am-3pm, $100 Ever dream of running your own business? At Camp Shark Tank, you'll go through a business incubator to develop your idea, prototype, test and market it. The week culminates with a SHARK TANK-style presentation to a panel of “investors"! Iron Girl Chef (3 Days, Junior/Cadette) Multiple Locations, 9 am-3 pm/ $75 Create original recipes while working with mystery ingredients! Be inspired by the Girl Scouts around you to rise to the challenge. This three-day program will explore multiple recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack! Family Events Kicking It Old School Camp Greene Wood, Aug. 19 / Sept. 9, 5:30pm-9:30pm, $5/person Kick off your weekend by kicking back and kicking it old school with the Girl Scouts! Bring a picnic dinner with your family to Camp Greene Wood to enjoy a warm summer evening (we’ll provide dessert). Then, take a hike or test out some old-school Girl Scout skills- learn about lashing, cook over a fire and play Retro Badge Jeopardy! To end the night, sing your favorite camp songs from every decade around a fire with your friends and family. You & Me Spa Sleepover (Daisy/Brownie) Multiple Locations and Dates, 6pm-8am, $35/girl, $20/adult Grab someone special and have the ultimate spa sleepover! Give yourselves facials, make colorful lip gloss and even create a sugar scrub. See how science is all around you - even at the spa! Deep River Water Park Tickets Merrillville, IN - Multiple Days, $18/ticket Get 'em while they last! Deep River Water Park is the place to be this summer. Purchase tickets now that can be used anytime between 5/27-8/21/16 or 8/27, 8/28, 9/3-9/5. Tickets will be mailed to you please allow 2 weeks for arrival. Zoo Snooze at Brookfield Zoo Brookfield Zoo, August 26-27, 7pm-10:30am, $75/person Join your fellow Girl Scouts at the Brookfield Zoo for a sleepover. Go on a night hike, examine real skulls and make treats for the animals to enjoy! Includes entrance fee, breakfast, and patch for Girl Scouts. Indiana Beach Amusement Resort Tickets Monticello, IN, All Summer, $18/person Roller coasters are waiting for you at Indiana Beach: zoom down the Hoosier Hurricane, ride the curves of the Cornball Express, and try out the new ride, Viper! Purchase tickets online until June 30, and at GS shops from June 1 - August 19. Tickets are for Girl Scouts, their family and friends. Six Flags Great America - Girl Scout Days Gurnee, IL - Multiple Days, $34/ticket, $1/patch From thrilling coasters to rides for kids, Six Flags Great America has something for everyone. Choose from 4 dates: June 18, June 19, July 16, or July 17. Patches can also be purchased for an additional $1. Tickets and patches available online until June 30 and at GS shops from June 1 - July 15. Tickets are for Girl Scouts, their family and friends. Chicago River Boat Adventure Navy Pier, Chicago, August 13, 1:15pm-2:30pm, $25 Chicago’s world-renowned architecture is a boat ride away! This special Girl Scout-only rate gets you on the ship Seadog to check out the dozens of skyscrapers lining the Chicago River with an expert tour guide. Family Cooking Challenge Vernon Hills Gathering Place, July 9, 6pm-9pm, $8/girl, $5/adult Does your family have a special recipe? Will it win the councilwide Family Cooking Challenge? Find out when you bring your favorite family recipe to share, and then dive in to the cook off with a mystery ingredient! One week prior, we’ll send you a list of ingredients you must include in your dish. Beverages will be provided. “The Magic of Reading” + Backstage Tour Maine East High School, Park Ridge, IL, June 4, 3pm-6pm, $14 AMA Academy of Performing Arts presents “The Magic of Reading”! This show features James and the Giant Peach, The Wizard of Oz, The Great Gatsby and much more! After the show, take a backstage tour and learn about lighting, props and scenery. Ticket price includes performance, tour, VIP pass, patch and Q&A session. Bring a Friend! Do you have a friend who’s not a Girl Scout who wants to come to a program? No problem! She can register as a Girl Scout and come to any of our events, even if she doesn’t want to join a troop. Register online or call us for more info! Gardening 101 (Daisy/Brownie) Multiple Locations and Dates, 1pm-3 pm, $10/girl, $3/adult Start your own herb garden! Learn what is needed to keep your plants alive and how to use your herbs in a simple recipe. Join us for Gardening 101 and earn your It’s Your Planet – Love it! Fun Patch. Schaumburg Boomers Scout Night and Campout Boomers Stadium, Schaumburg, IL, July 29-30, 6:30pm-8am Watch the Boomers play baseball, then camp out on the field afterwards! Check out a movie on the giant stadium video board, roast s’mores and have breakfast in the morning. Ticket and patch for $11; ticket, patch and food voucher for $16. Add $10 for sleepover. Joliet Slammers Girl Scout Sleepover Silver Cross Field, Joliet, IL, July 30-31, 5pm-8am, $20 Cheer on the Slammers, then have a sleepover in the outfield! Join us for a nighttime movie screening, popcorn and soda, and have breakfast in the morning before you head out. Tree-riffic Fall at The Morton Arboretum Lisle, IL, September 18, 11am-3pm, $9 Celebrate the fall season at The Morton Arboretum with your Girl Scout friends and family! Come explore the fall colors in this handson, open-house style event. Borrow a Girl Scout bag to collect leaves, take a hike, and make a creative leaf craft to meet badge requirements. Coming soon… a brand new Girl Scout experience unlike any other! An exciting new venture kicks off this summer at the Vernon Hills Gathering Place and the Friendship Center in Country Club Hills. Girls take the lead by working together to start a business and save their city from certain disaster. With three-day and five-day camps for all ages, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a first look at this immersive new program!
