What to Expect...
at your Orthodontic Appointment:

2 All About Smiles Butler
If you or your child can potentially benefit from orthodontic
treatment, simply call our office now. We will be happy to schedule
your next appointment.
Upon check-in, each patient is seen by our attentive staff and
doctor. Photographs and x-rays will be taken and a thorough exam
will be completed to allow for a proper diagnosis. At this time, your
orthodontist will discuss with you whether there may be an orthodontic problem, what must be done to correct the problem, how
long treatment may take, and how much treatment will cost, etc.
The exact cost of your orthodontic treatment and your financial
options will be discussed during the initial examination. At this time,
we will also review your insurance policy and help to maximize your
benefit and file your claims (if applicable).
Our well-trained staff is looking forward to serving your orthodontic needs and providing your dentist with routine progress
reports.
What to Expect...
during Root Canal Therapy:
What to Expect...
when having a Tooth Extracted:
We appreciate the opportunity to take care of your Root
Canal Therapy (RCT) needs. At your visit, you will be greeted
and welcomed by our warm and friendly staff who will ask you
to complete a medical history and consent forms. Please bring
the referral slip from your dentist, any x-rays, and a list of all of
the medications (over-the-counter and prescription) that you
regularly take or have taken within the past month.
Once you have completed history and consent forms, a
dental assistant will review and chart your chief complaint, your
referring dentist’s information, history of the tooth pain, take
x-rays of your teeth, and introduce you to your dentist.
Your dentist is here to help you understand how Root Canal Therapy can save your tooth by discussing your options,
benefits, and possible risks associated with the procedure. He
will review your paperwork, evaluate your symptoms, and test
the tooth in question.
Before treatment begins, local anesthesia will be administered to numb any sensations that may be felt during the procedure. Then, your dentist will remove the inflamed or infected
pulp, carefully clean and shape the inside of the canal, and then
fill and seal the space.
After the completion of the procedure, it is our pleasure to
return you to your dentist, who will provide you with follow-up
and restorative treatment.
As stated by the American Dental Association, you should expect the following when you are scheduled for a tooth extraction:
When having an extraction, today’s modern procedures and
follow-up care as recommended by your dentist are there to provide you great benefit and comfort.
Your dentist will numb the area to lessen any discomfort. A
device may be used to help hold your mouth open to increase
comfort. Additionally, conscious sedation may be an option or
recommendation. After the extraction, you will be provided with
a post-extraction regimen to follow. Please be informed that in
most cases, a small amount of bleeding is normal.
Please avoid anything that might prevent normal healing. It is
usually best not to smoke or rinse your mouth vigorously, or drink
through a straw for 24 hours. These activities could dislodge the
clot and delay healing.
For the first few days, if you must rinse, rinse your mouth gently.
If you experience pain or swelling, apply a cold cloth or an ice bag,
and you may ask your dentist about pain medication. Please continue to brush and floss the other teeth as usual, but do not clean
the teeth next to the tooth socket. Once again, this could dislodge
the clot and delay healing.
After the completion of the procedure, you will be referred
back to your primary care dentist for additional follow-up care.
