Greetings from
Welcome to the Italian Pavilion at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2010.
There is hardly an inch of Italy that couldn‘t ripen grapes suitable for wine, and
consequently there are a myriad of classified regions producing a diverse array of wines,
some of which are rarely seen outside of Italy. With the diverse climate condition and soil
type from North to South, you can imagine that the resulting wine combinations would
be just as diverse as the sub-cultures surround them.
Hong Kong, as the Asian wine hub, has shown her love to Italian wine by the numbers.
In 2009, Italy has exported USD11.1 million red wines to Hong Kong, showing an
increase of 28.3% compared to that of Year 2008. A record of USD1.96 million white
wines has also been exported to Hong Kong from Italy. Other than Red and White
wines, Italian sparkling wines recorded a dramatic rise of 81.2% in term of value, from
USD262,000 in 2008 to USD475,000 in 2009.
I am glad to see the strong presence of Italian wines in Hong Kong. So please enjoy the
wines from Italy at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2010. I wish you all a rewarding exhibition and
many successes to come!
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Seeing the potential of the wine industry, the Italian Trade Commission has invested a lot
of resources in promoting Italian wine globally. This time at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2010,
we have invited over 80 exhibitors from different parts of Italy to participate. So you can
find the expensive and age-worthy wines, to the bargain glugging wines here at the
Italian Pavilion.

Italy is a major wine producer in the world. In year 2009, Hong Kong has imported
USD 9.5 million red wine and USD 1.9 million white wine from Italy.
Italy‘s wine heritage can be dated back to some 4,000 years when prehistoric peoples
pressed wild grapes into juice to ferment wine.
Winemaking in Italy advanced rapidly in the 19th century, as methods of vinification and
aging were improved and the use of corks to seal reinforced bottles and flasks permitted
orderly shipping of wine worldwide.
In the 60s when the Denominazione d‘Origine laws were passed, it provided the basis for
what came to known as the ”Modern Renaissance” of Italian wine.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Italy has more types of vines planted than any other country, including natives and
international varieties. More than a hundred of Vitis Vinifera vines has been officially
approved. Though Italy is most noted for its noble reds for aging, trends also favor more
immediate types of rosso, including the vini novelli to be drunk within months of the
harvest. Italy is also a major producer of white wines, ranging in style from light and fruity
to oak-aged versions of impressive substance and depth.
The wine in Italy was classified into 4 types: Vino da Tavola, IGT (Indicazione Geografica
Tipica, DOC (Denominazione di Orgine Controllata), and DOCG (Denominazione di
Orgine Controllata e Garantita).

(Strada del Vino Terre di Arezzo)
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Campo del Monte is situated along the wine road called “Terre del Vino di Arezzo” in
Valdarno Superiore at the height of 300 metres above sea level. It is one hour driving
from Florence and Siena and about 20 minutes from Arezzo. The area is also interesting
from the Italian art point of view: there are many Roman churches and bridges, medieval
villages and castles surrounded by pinewood forest, olive grooves and vineyards. It is
said that these landscapes one can find on masterpieces of such Italian artists as Piero
della Francesca and Leonardo da Vinci. In 1978 the Mantellinis have created “Campo
del Monte” enlarging it during many years to the present extension of 30 hectares.
Mantellini family has developed viticulture and olive growing by planting respectively
vineyards on 7,5 hectares and olives on about 3,30 hectares. Today we cultivate as
well famous bean “zolfino” – typical species of the area. The rest of the territory is
dedicated to hazels cultivation and forest. The cultivating techniques follow the method
of agriculture integrated eco-compatible. Nowadays among our high quality products
there is olive oil, Chianti wine, Malvasia Bianca del Chianti and beans “zolfino”. Over the
years the wines of “Campo del Monte” have got several awards and recognitions: for
example “Rodos” has been selected by “Vini di Toscana” guide, Luca Maroni guide and
“Vini premiati d‘Italia”.

The farm, whose products have got organic certification, is part of an old family estate,
completely restored. The cellar has been obtained by the old barn (tobacco also used
to be dried in there) with a special place for the ageing of vinsanto in small barrels.
The vineyard is at an altitude of 234 m a.s.l. It is about thirty years old. Autoctonous
Sangiovese is grown and the training system is spur cordon. Besides Chianti, a D.O.C.G.
of fresh and perfumed drink, with an important structure, after a long sperimentation
and thanks to a new plant, a small and selected production of Nocetta has started
this year. It is an I.G.T. produced by autoctonous Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. It
has got a great body and structure and will be on the market from 2009. The grapes,
chosen when perfectly ripe and sound, are hand picked, usually during the first week of
October. Vinification is held in small stainless steel vats, under controlled temperature,
with delastage and pumpingups for about 20 days. The must matures and decants for a
year and then refines for almost three months in bottle. The estate produces extra virgin
olive oil and honey, fully respecting both organic and traditional production techniques.

The estate extends for about 15 hectares, part located in the municipal district of
Laterina and part in that of Terranuova Bracciolini. The estate aim is currently focused on
the production of wines strictly related to the territory. The agricultural management sees
in the care and renewal of humic substances in the soil the highest expression of produce
quality and there is no use of synthesis chemicals. The originality and individuality of
wines together with the connection to the territory (the highest expression of the couple
nature-man), are assured by cellar techniques. In fact they are not standardised by
industrial technology, but managed in a natural way so that the product is obtained in
the most spontaneous forming process.

The ancient hamlet of Sangervasio was founded in 754 AC to defend the small Romanic

Today Sangervasio still shows the old circular plan, with the villa and the cellar rising

Accardo Serena
Our company “San Michele” was founded in 2002 thanks to the ideas and the passion
of the Accardo family, in particular of daughter Serena and her father Gaetano. Gaetano
boasts of more than 40 years of experience in the field of olive and vine growing and
wine producing. He has worked with Tuscany‘s most important and award-winning
wine-makers, not only in the role of producer.
Our choice of wines and olive oils is the fruit of an exclusive and attentive selection. To
point out just one there is the wine that gave our business it‘s name, the “San Michele“.
This wine is noteworthy for the presence of a grape, called “Giacomino” which is typical
for the region around Pisa but nearly extinct. Our family was able to retrieve this vine
from an old vineyard in family possession for the last 50 years and to cultivate it again.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Ours is a young company that has just recently begun to sell its products on an
international market and it keeps growing continuously. Currently we are building a new
wine-shop where we dedicate an area to the tasting of our products.
Tuscan quality wines have been known until today to be produced in the area around
Siena. Our goal is to make known the wines of the region around Pisa to be appreciated
just as much. For this reason we decided to hire one of Italy‘s most important enologists ..
because wine is our passion.

Cantine 4 Valli Srl
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
The story of the company Ferrari & Perini began in 1882, when grandpa Perini met
grandpa Ferrari. That year a double-barrelled name was born that by now can only
be defined as a winner: from an agriculturalist that made the wine and a carpenter
that made the casks. Since then there have been generations of viticulturists and
different ways of relating to grapes and wine, right up to today‘s descendants. The
most important moment in the development of the company was the founding of
Cantine Quattro Valli, in 1952. The company philosophy (recalled by the name itself) has
conditioned all its various activities and initiatives over the years, and means exploiting
to the full the typical nature of the wines from the Colli Piacentini – the hills of Piacenza.
In fact, the Cantine Quattro Valli only transform their own grapes or others bought
exclusively from the vineyards of these hills, a territory that is particularly fertile and has
a great viticulture vocation which creates the right conditions for a high-level enological
offer. Cantine Quattro Valli is the operative centre for the whole company, the fulcrum of
a production that has become known all over the world and the guarantor of a quality
that is avidly pursued as a symbol of the tirelessness of a great united family.
Cantine Quattro Valli is a real service centre at the head of a series of companies spread
throughout the territory of Piacenza.

Casa Vinicola Casetta Flli
The Casetta winery is located in the north-west of Italy, in the Piedmont region, a winemaking area which arouses such strong emotions, many reasons why such a unique
composition of flavours, hues and nuances is released when a bottle of wine is uncorked.
The Company was founded in 1953 by Ernesto Casetta and his brother Giuseppe in
Vezza d‘Alba, the historical centre of Langhe & Roero. In 1960s Ernesto Casetta started
to export the CASETTA brands, at the beginning only in Europe and later in the U.S.A.,
Japan, Canada, Middle Est and South Asia.
Our Estate comprises forty hectares of vineyards located in the Langa and Roero regions,
many in prime south-facing areas at altitude ranging between 200 to 400 metres, in a
magic paradise of hills in Langa and Roero area.

This, together with organic cultivation methods and meticulous care in the choice of
bunches during harvest, results in the fruit of excellent quality from which our crus are

Casalbosco
Velvety hills extend for kilometers and surround Casalbosco winery. 150 hectares of land
are kissed by the sun and dominate the valleys between Prato and Pistoia and, with the
natural beauty of the Apennines that create a harmonious background. The hillsides of
Casalbosco are decorated by vivacious vineyards. From a distance they look like a colorful
patchwork with red, purple gold that dominate under the Tuscan sun.
The estate faces the south south-east, guaranteeing the perfect ripening of the grapes
and therefore a guaranteeing a high quality wine. Each vineyard is like a necklace with
precious stones; each one has been recently planted, after a careful selection, so as
to cultivate only the best. Casalbosco is located in a strategic intersection for many
interesting sites in the heart of Tuscany: thirty minutes away from the sea and from the
Chianti Classico area, less than thirty minutes away from the elegant city of Pistoia, and
twenty kilometers away from the noble city of Florence.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Excellence and refined taste for wines from Fattoria di Casalbosco sink deep into the
roots of the Becagli Family.
Wines produced following great Tuscan enological traditions from extremely precious
vineyards – Cabernet, Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Syrah – choosing the best grapes
with a process of elaboration directed by an exceptional wine expert.
There is a historic bond between the Becagli family and the Chianti territory where they
would spend there days on the sunny hillsides where Casalbosco is located.
The children, who run the winery, have been very successful thanks to their
entrepreneurial experience in the textile and fashion field. And with the same success
and enthusiasm they are facing this new adventure through the vineyards.
A new name for each wine make the colors in it the protagonist, just like in the
masterpieces of art in the land of Tuscany.
Like the careful brushes of colors on a canvas create famous paintings, so do the names
Carminio, Porpora, Dorato on the labels, compose, together with the sublime Opus
Magnum, the complete masterpiece that depicts the traditions of Casalbosco.
A new image for each bottle expresses a soave content.
28
TOSCANA
Simple linear yet elegant lines follow one below the other on the labels recalling the
geometric decoration of Tuscan Romanesque-style cathedral in Pistoia, the baptistery in
Florence and the thousands of churches spread throughout the sweet Tuscan hills.
The protagonist of this masterpiece is a wine that stands out for its prestige and value:
Orchidea. The production is limited to only the best selection of grapes. This is the only
wine that carries a different name, the name of a flower. It is dedicated to Raffaella
Becagli, by her family in her memory.

Deltetto
Since 1953 The Deltetto family has produced high quality wines in the areas of Langhe
and Roero. The family business is located in Canale and was established by Carlo
Deltetto, who began the activity, always respecting nature and the great wine tradition
of Piedmont. Since 1977, after his studies on oenology, Carlo‘s son, Antonio (together
with his wife Graziella, their son Carlo, and their daughters Cristina and Claudia), has
run the business, trying to respect his father‘s aim.
The production is varied and complete, including the traditional red wines such as the
Roero Braja, the Barolo Sistaglia, the Barbera “Rocche delle Marasche” and the Barbera
Bramè. With regards to the white wines, the Arneis San Michele, the Arneis Daivej and
the Favorita Sarvai are produced and have found their best habitat in the Roero area.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
In the last few years The Deltetto family has had many a success, such as with the
Passito Bric du Liun, a top quality wine obtained from Arneis grapes, and the production
of bubbles through the classic method “champenoise”. This production began with the
Extra Brut Millesimato and was then completed with the Brut and the Rosè, wines which
combine two of the most famous vines, Nebbiolo and Pinot Nero.

Fabrizio Dionisio
(Strada del Vino Terre di Arezzo)
The estate is formed by two farms, “Il Castagno” and “Poggio del Sole” which are
both located on the hills which surround Cortona and delimit the Valdichiana: a
typically Tuscan landscape among woods, olive groves, wheat, sunflower and tobacco
plantations, ancient hamlets, villas, parish churches and Etruscan remains. “Poggio del
Sole” and “Il Castagno” have got an high inclination for grape growing and their soils
are characterized by two different composition.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
In the farm “Il Castagno”, where the vinification ad refinements cellars are, now there
are vineyards of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon (planted in 2001), while at “Poggio del
Sole” have been planted prevailingly vineyards of Syrah and a little Merlot (part in 2000
and part in 2003). Vineyards are tendentially trained according to organic farming and
manual harvesting is carried out. The estate aims to the production of wines which are
absolutely artisan in the best and noblest sense, without renouncing to most up-to-date
technologies but always by manual work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, in every
phase of the production. The first wine produced in Cortona by Fabrizio Dionisio (Podere
IL CASTAGNO Syrah Cortona D.O.C. 2003) has been also the result of his first vintage.

Fattoria Il Palagio Soc. Agr
The elegant manorial complex of the Fattoria il Palagio sits atop a hill at Castel San
Gimignano. The vineyards are relatively vast, covering almost 100 hectares (233 acres),
and the vines grow at an average altitude of 300 meters (1000 feet). However, the
estate‘s total area is substantially larger, about 350 hectares.
The area is the homeland of Chianti Colli Senesi. When the Zonin family became
the proprietor of the estate, however, noble varieties were planted, which permitted
updating of the Tuscan tradition. Those vines, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and
Sauvignon Blanc, yielded excellent results.

Fattoria La Traiana

Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Estate of ancient tradition the “Fattoria La Traiana” is located in the homonymous
village in the municipal district of Terranuova Bracciolini. The estate, whose productive
trend deals with wine and oil and for ten years has been certified as organic, extends
on a surface of 120 hectares. It is at the foot of Pratomagno with a favourable position
towards South and South-East. The environment is the one of the Valdarno “typical hill”,
at an altitude of about 280 m a.s.l. and is characterized by slightly deep sloping grounds,
with a mainly silty-clayey texture and lytological variety. The grapes excellent quality is
guaranteed by the vineyard management which is based on low yield obtained thanks
to an adequate bunches thinning out of green pruning, clusters thinning out and grape
selection during harvest is held manually. As far as varietal selections are concerned
grapes undergo again an accurate selection before destemming and vinification process
is carried out in tonneaux with frequent manual punching down of the cap. Then it
matures in new Allier and Trocais barriques for about 20 months.

Mannucci Droandi
(Strada del Vino Terre di Arezzo)
The main part of the winery known as "Campolucci" (originating from the latin meaning
"field of the holy wood") has belonged to the family since 1929. This large, very old
farmhouse (recorded in The Lorrain land registers) is situated on the ridge of a hill on
the eastern slopes of the Chianti mountains, at 250m above sea level. It is surrounded
by woods, olive groves and vineyards which produce very high quality grapes thanks to
both the particulary favourable pedoclimatic situation and the growing methods which
aim to restrict quantity. In the cellar on the ground floor of the building, the grapes
undergo traditional vinification (long maceration with pumping over and delestages, and
rapid malolactic fermentation) and the ageing period in vats, wood and bottles depends
on the vintage year and type of wine.

Rocca Delle Macie
(Enoteca Italiana di Siena)
Rocca delle Macìe is a young and dynamic winery which in a little over 30 years it
has forged a reputation throughout the wine world as one of Chianti‘s most highly
regarded estates.
It was back in 1973 that Italo Zingarelli at last realized his life-long dream of purchasing
the estate “Le Macìe“ - about 85 hectares of land of which just two planted with vines-and transforming it into a winery at the very heart of the Chianti Classico zone.
In 1985, Sergio, Italo‘s youngest son, became personally responsible for the worldwide
distribution network and in 1989, with his wife Daniela at his side, was appointed
Company President.
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
66
As part of Sergio‘s long term business strategy and of his determination to achieve
quality, he consolidates and developes the paternal company which becomes popular
worldwide, gaining many prizes and recognitions for his wines.
The company estate now extends to more than 600 hectares with, in total, more than
200 used as vineyards and 80 as olive groves, subdivided across the company‘s six
estates: Le Macìe, Sant‘Alfonso, Fizzano e le Tavolelle in the Chianti Classico zone, in
addition to the recently purchased Campom accione and Casamaria in the Morellino di

All our efforts go in the “Quality“ direction.

Low yield, manual harvest in small box of 15kg, manual selection of the best and safe
grapes, quick transfer of the grapes in the canteen, far about 100meters, quick grapes
forwarding in the stainless steel termo-conditioned tanks, crio-maceration on the skins,
long and computer controlled fermentation process, smart use of barriques, long fining,
strict and continuous people follow up, are all factors that contribute to the Quality of
our wines.
We start in the vineyard with care and attention of our different grapes: Sangiovese,
Alicante typical Tuscany grapes together to the more international grapes as Merlot and
Sirah in order to give our wines more softness and structure. For the white wines we
use mainly Vermentino, one of the most typical Tuscany grape, with small percentage of
Viognier for more scents and flavours.
The vineyard is on the top of an hill with rittochino rows, sunny all the day.

early as 1200 years ago. Today the estate has 650 hectares, of which 100 are vineyards
and 140 olive groves and it is the largest Estate in the Carmignano area. Capezzana is

Tenuta il Borro
(Strada del Vino Terre di Arezzo)
The Il Borro estate is a property of the Ferragamo Family since 1993. The estate which
extends from Valdarno, to the feet of the Pratomagno mountains, enjoys a highly
privileged position in regard to the production of fine wines. The terrain was modelled
by the movements of the great lakes which covered the entire area millions of years
ago, geologic origins which have strongly influenced both the composition and shape
of the land. These were decisive points in the selection of the vines, which was done by
the oenologist Nicolò D‘Afflitto in 1993 after extensive analyses of the soils and diverse
terrain; seeking out the optimum conditions for the five varieties of vine grown on the
farm, with vineyard that now cover over 45 hectares.

Three farms: Camponovo, San Lorenzo and Castiglioncelli; a villa dating back to 18th
century, beautiful country houses and a cellar arise on a spectacular hill, preciously
carved by avenues of cypresses, pinewoods and groups of oaks. 130 hectares of
vineyards, olive-groves and woods between Chianti and Valdarno. Three brothers from
Milan: Vanni, Carlo and Marco Cattaneo bought this estate in 2002 with the wish

Tre Monti Azienda Agricola
(Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna)
Italy at Vinexpo Asia Pacific 2010
Azienda Agricola Tre Monti traces its origins back to the early 1960s, the inspiration
of Sergio Navacchia and of his wife Thea, who for years was the real driving force
behind the winery, until her death in 1989. A turning-point came in the 1980s, the
result of a revolution that began in the vineyards and carried over into the cellar. Close
relationships were established with the best talent in the Italian wine world: a youthful
Francesco Spagnolli in the early 1980s, followed by Vittorio Fiore, and afterwards
Donato Lanati. The fruit of their expertise underpinned the steady growth of the
winery, directed by Vittorio and David with the help of their father Sergio. A drive to
achieve growth was a powerful motivation to return to the vineyards in recent years
with renewed dedication, to express as fully as possible the local terroir, to see the
land not only as the sum total of soils, weather, exposition, and so on, but also as a
place where one could read the evidence of man‘s thought, of his work, with past and
present brought into complex harmony.
