The Trojan - Wagon Mound Public Schools
‘The Trojan’
Volume 90 Issue 4
Superintendent’s News
The school district recently installed surveillance
cameras in different places throughout the
campus. These cameras will help provide
security, and curtail ill doings from people that
are looking for opportunities to create extra
expenses or damage to the school district and
cause a financial burden to our community tax
payers.
As I part ways and begins my life as a
former/retired educator I would like to extend
my gratitude to all my former and present board
members who have provided me with the
opportunity to serve the students , parents
,community , and staff from this great school
district.
I would like to start by welcoming Mrs. Sheryl
McNellis Martinez who was hired recently as
the new Superintendent/Principal for the Wagon
Mound Schools. She will begin leading the
district July 1st. Mrs. NcNellis Martinez has
worked for the district before and my hope is
that she will bring her A game to the district and
serve the district to the best of her ability. A
welcome also for Mrs. Tammie Avent who was
appointed to serve in the vacant board member
position #3. She will serve for two years until
the next scheduled board election. Mrs. Avent is
the parent of Maisen a fifth grade student at
WMES.
I have truly enjoyed the 34 years I have served
in different capacities of education. The years I
have served in Wagon Mound have been very
gratifying and I will always cherish the
experiences and memories made here.
It is my wish that I have served you well and
that I left a better school district than the one I
first started with 14 years ago. May you continue
to experience success and prosper in every way
possible.

5th & 6th Grade News
The 1st semester of school is over and now the
fun truly begins! Our class has been working
diligently to prepare for our upcoming short
cycle assessment, the Discovery Education
Assessment. We have done plenty of review in
both Math and Language Arts in order to better
prepare ourselves for the test.
Our class would like to congratulate Isabella
Moleski for winning the District Spelling Bee!
Our class also had many others in the top 10 of
the District and Regional Spelling Bee that were
held this month. Congratulations to everyone for
a job well done! Due to inclement weather we
were not able to attend the Regional Spanish
Spelling Bee in Mora last Thursday. However,
we are looking forward to representing our
school with class and respect once the Bee is
postponed.
The 5th and 6th grade class would also like to
wish the Wagon Mound Schools and community
a very Happy Valentine’s Day.
7th Grade News
On January 5th it was Carissa Duran’s 13th
birthday. February 12th it was Malaika Armijo’s
13th birthday. March 8th was Kyra Maxwell’s
13th birthday, and on March 18th it was Dominic
Armijo’s birthday. The entire 7th grade turned
13. We lost a fellow student named Kyra
Maxwell. She switched schools on us. We
recently had to do the PARCC tests. They were
easy for some of us and hard for the others. We
are also preparing for the NSBA tests for
science. We are all studying hard and hope that
we all do well on them. The school year is going
by very fast. It is going faster than it seemed
back in elementary.
8th Grade News
The 8th grade is doing the ping pong ball toss at
the spring carnival on April 30th, 2015. We are
sad because one of our classmates, Cruzito
Armijo left.
9th Grade News
We are excited for the carnival and
cannot wait for the year to end.
11th Grade News
The junior class is anxious for the end of the
school year to come. We have been doing and
will continue to do state testing. The PARCC
testing was challenging, but the class overall
believe they did a good job. SBA testing is next.
We will be testing at the end of March and the
beginning of April. Then, in the end of April and
in the beginning of May we will be testing for
the Math EOC. We think we are tested a lot, but
the class believes that it’s for the best. Other
than testing, the junior class is ready for the
Spring Carnival. The carnival will be after
spring break on April 30th. We can’t wait for the
summer to come because then we will be
considered Seniors!!! Yay, we cannot wait!!
