La Clape, a little island from a Gallo Roman area with over 2000 years of know- how in vine growing, has built an international reputation due to its quality of wines and its wonderful terroir. Château Le Bouis, a 49 hectare plot, is located on the edge of the Corbières Terroir, on the Mediterranean seafront. The vineyard includes a restaurant and terrace that overlooks the vines and possesses stunning sea views that offer guests peace and tranquility. A guesthouse, dating from the XVIII century, has been restored for residents to enjoy this unique environment. To complement its charm, The Bouis Barn produces two premium cuvée. 11 An historic place A uring the Gallo Roman area, La Clape was an island. After the Roman conquest in 118 B.C. it became famous and Romans started to grow vines. Gradually the island began to be part of the continent because sediments from the Aude river started to fill the pound (?). “Today, even if man changes, La Clape will always be a terroir full of authenticity with an astonishing array of quality wine.” Massif de la Clape has a hard and dry climate. Sun and wind are the perfect marriage for the exposed rock. If La Clape is one of sunniest spots in France it is because there are thriteen winds crossing the skies. Sometimes, a southern thunderstorm transforms this windy site into a tropical island. With these three elements, the vines remain strong. Water cleans and feeds it. Wind dries it and gives them fresh air. Sun fills the grapes with sugar. The harsh climatic conditions is a sign of high quality.Le caillou endurcit la vigne et lui permet d’exprimer son plein potentiel. “ Stones, stones, stones ! ” If its a flat stone floor, red land, grey or yellow marls or red sandstone, La Clape is a collection of types of soil where each grape variety can find happiness. Stone strengthen vines and allow them to develop their full potential. 12 Château le Bouïs A he castle, approved Natura 2000, is one of the largest wine growing company of the Languedoc Roussillon in PGI (protected geographica Indication) and Corbières Protected designation of origin (PDO). Soon, Castle will be in La clape Designation. Vineyards : Total area : • 50 ha of garden, vines and heathland. • 34 ha of vines in PDO and PGI. • The oldest vines is 80 years. The oldest Carignan has been planted in 1933. For the Youngest vines planted in Cordon de Royat, density is 6000 foot / ha. For Chateau le Bouis team, the harvest quality research is reflected by : the tradition which is the best way to create the balance between soil and vines.
