RETURN TO SACRED PLACES. Find places that will touch your soul
and speak to your creative side. On well-traveled roads to historic
Taos Pueblo, by a colorful shrine tucked into an adobe wall, in the
hush of our mountains blanketed with fresh snow . . . you’ll find
yourself returning to what is important and essential to your being.
The Taos community embraces diversity and encourages creativity.
The Taos landscape inspires artists and challenges adventurists.
A visit to legendary Taos will reveal to you why “Taos” has become
synonymous with sacred, rejuvenating, and harmonious.
Learn more at TaosSacredPlaces.com.
Taos celebrates its sacred places throughout 2011. See taossacredplaces.com for details.

From pueblo dances to
snowboarding–our distinct
culture spans 1000 years.
OUR CULTURE IS IN THE PATINA OF A CLAY POT and the gloss
of a ski. The Taos culture evolved as three groups—Native American,
Spanish, and Anglo—blended over the centuries. Taos Indians
established the valley as a center for trade. The Spanish dramatically
influenced architecture and agriculture, introducing the acequia system
still in use today. Over the last 200 years, creative luminaries arrived
and established our reputation for art. And in the 1950s, an entrepreneurial skier from Austria added “world-class ski resort” to the
list of reasons to visit. Today, Taos continues to be a destination
for visitors seeking natural beauty and a place to reconnect.

Explore a tapestry of villages.
TAOS IS A COLLECTION OF VILLAGES, each with its own
history, traditions, and personality. Taos Plaza and Taos Pueblo
are only part of the experience. Taos Ski Valley was founded
by ski legend Ernie Blake in the mid-fifties and today welcomes
skiers and riders in the winter, mountain bikers and classical
musicians in the summer. Historic “art villages” include Arroyo
Seco and Ranchos de Taos. The towns of Red River and Angel
Fire are both ski resorts and vibrant municipalities. A new age
of architecture lives in the Greater World Earthship Community.
Allow time to explore our towns and villages and discover
the soul of Taos.

Art is alive in Taos.
THE ORIGINAL ART COLONY that inspired some
of the world’s most famous artists continues to be a
place where art thrives. Art is in everyone and around
every corner in Taos. It’s in our architecture and carried
through the air on a chord of music. Of course, you’ll
also find art at our many galleries, museums, and
seasonal art festivals. Visit the historic Harwood
Museum and stroll past galleries on Ledoux Street
where the Taos Society of Artists began. Then visit
the many galleries around town that feature worldrenowned artists and new talent for you to discover.
