Climate and Weather:
Denis Private Island lies well outside the cyclone belt, and enjoys a
pleasant tropical climate governed by seasonal monsoon and trade
winds. Temperatures are on average around 29˚C with a monthly average
rarely going below 24˚C or above 32˚C.
The monsoons last typically from mid October to mid May with the
moisture-laden winds from the North West bringing warm, humid and
calm weather – December and January being the wettest months.
Mid May to mid October, the blustery South East trades bring cooler and
drier weather.
Special Interests:
Please let us know if there is a special interest or hobby you would like to indulge in during your stay - bird watching, fly fishing,
game fishing, line fishing, diving or learn how to dive, a special rejuvenating wellness treament. Or a special dish or refreshment
– from your favourite cocktail, wine or champagne – so that we can organise to have it available when you arrive.
Special Occasions:
Idyllic settings make Denis the perfect location for your wedding ceremony, blessing, renewal of vows, christening or special
anniversary. Both civil and Christian (Catholic and Anglican) rites may be organized. Weddings may take place during weekdays
and a supplement will be charged for ceremonies on weekends or public holidays. We take care of all details: from booking
the registrar and/or priest, photographer, flowers, hairdresser to providing the witnesses and making sure that your marriage
certificate is duly certified. Please contact our Reservations Office for more details on these and other special occasions which
you may wish to celebrate during your stay.
Adventure:
Diving: The months leading to the end and beginning of each season – mid
February to June and October to December bring calm, serene weather
with clear skies and great underwater visibility. Our PADI Associated
Dive Centre offers a range of courses and excursions. Dive sites are on
a gradual sea slope from 18-25 m. All equipment is available on site
– compressors, regulators, wet suits, masks, fins. Limited equipment
is available for children. We therefore recommend parents bring wet
suits, masks and fins for children and wet suits for teenagers in order
to avoid disappointment. Divers should bring their dive logbook and
licence. The nearest de-compression chambers are located on Mahé
and Silhouette.
Fishing is available year round. Half day and full day charters with an
experienced skipper may be pre-booked in order to ensure your preferred
slot. June is the best month for billfish including sailfish and marlin. Rods
and tackle are available and are included in the charter prices. However,
fly-fishermen should bring their own rods and tackle. Prior notice must
be given to the Reservations Manager so that adequate arrangements
are made to transport the rods to the island.
Other activities include tennis, snorkelling, snooker, indoor board games,
pétanque, canoeing, nature walks, bird-feeding tours, guided island
tours, sunset cruises.

Insurance:
All guests travelling to Denis Private Island hold a fully comprehensive travel insurance policy - including medical and emergency
medical evacuation - valid for the duration of their stay on the island.
Valuables:
Denis Private Island is safe and we operate on a no keys concept. A safety deposit box is available at Reception if, for your peace
of mind, you wish to put something for safekeeping.
Conservation:
Denis Private Island is the focus of a number of on-going conservation projects of national and international significance.
Should you wish to participate in any of these, you may contact us on info@denisisland.com. More information is available on our
environmental blog: http://denisisland.com
Wildlife:
No pets, animals, or plants may be brought to or from the island. The
bio-diversity on Denis does mean that there are a number of insects.
Insect repellants are available on the island; we use a natural pesticide
of the pyreththroid group produced from chrysanthemum flowers
in order to control mosquitoes – as these are easily broken down by
sunlight and water and are not taken by the roots of plants. Please do
not bring other types of repellant on your visit as these may adversely
affect the reproductive health of the bird life of the island. The island is
malaria-free. The endemic bright geckos, said to bring good luck, which
may make their way into your room are harmless. A good anti-histamine
cream is useful to reduce and ease swellings and itchiness.
Ownership:
Denis Private Island is owned and managed by the Mason family.
