Green Thumb Challenge
Confirmation of Participation Due June 1
This club flowering planter competition is back. Rules and guidelines follow.
1. Must use a large animal mineral bin/barrel as the planter base. Common colors
are black and blue. Drill holes in the bottom for proper drainage.
2. Put your club name somewhere on the planter in a visible location.
3. If you are interested in selling your planter, place the following information on the
base of your planter in a visible location.
You can purchase this planter for a minimum bid of $ ______. Please go to
the Junior Fair Office to leave your name, number, and bid amount. Highest
bidder takes it home.
4. Planter announcements will be made at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday of the fair.
5. Bidders must be available to take it home on Sunday or it returns home with the
club who brought it.
6. Planter locations will be drawn on July 11 at the Joint Leaders meeting in Loyal at
7:30 p.m.
We will work with the Master Gardeners to judge the planters on Wednesday
evening of the fair. Funds allocation is being decided for top three place finishers
(estimate $25 , $15, and $10 respectively for place finishing).

Youth Leadership Derby
Sponsored by Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin
(PDPW)
For youth ages 15 to 18
This lock-in style event is perfect for youth who have an
interest in real-world science, leadership development and
hands-on learning in the agriculture industry.
Many people overlook the career opportunities in
agriculture that are associated with our state’s $43.3 billion
dairy industry. You don’t need to be from a farm to be part
of this vibrant industry – one that has steadily provided
jobs and careers in this state through every economic
cycle. Students who attend PDPW’s Youth Leadership
Derby will meet some of these people as they experience:





Hands-On dissection Veterinarian Labs and tour of
Holsum Dairy
Choice of Discovery Forums
An Agricultural Career Panel
Group activities to increase confidence, team-work and
leadership skills
Amazing featured speakers including Sam Glenn,
NCAA Track Star Ed Slowikowski, Comedy Sportz and
Alice in Dairyland!
All of this takes place at Brillion High School beginning at
10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 and concluding on
Sunday, April 17 at 12:45 p.m. A brochure and registration

Badger Dairy Camp
June 9 - 11
For youth ages 12 to 15
The 2016 Badger Dairy Camp dates will be held at UW Madison
and will include two 1/2 days of workshops on fitting, showing,
and caring for dairy animals along with other workshops pertinent
to the dairy industry.
The total cost of the camp is $115 with a $65 deposit due at the

WI Junior State Fair – Youth
teamwork in action
The State Fair Dairy Show will be August 3-7
open to dairy youth ages 12-19. State Jr. Fair
is so much more than showing cattle. It’s a
tremendous teamwork building experience
and offers youth an opportunity to interact with

There are several changes this year: Managerial/ownership
definitions, June 1 entry deadline, changed show dates. Go to http://

Area Animal Science Days
Area Animal Science Days (AASD) are the qualifying
contests for the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest.
Each year there is a topic that each species
participates in. In addition, there is a meats portion to the
day’s events.

DAIRY COMMITTEE MINUTES
ADS – GREENWOOD
MARCH 14, 2016
Present were: Jeff Pinter, Melissa Brecke, Pam Selz-Pralle, Scott Pralle, Bob Wilke, Kristy Thomas, Steve Thomas,
Rich Meyer, Tom Meyer, Larry Meyer, Dennis Roehl, Adam Luchterhand, Tanya Wilke, Chris Hollar
The meeting was called to order by Rich Meyer, chairman, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday March 14, 2016. A copy of the
fall minutes was provided for everyone to read. Pam Selz-Pralle moved to approve the minutes as printed. Melissa Brecke seconded the
motion. Minutes were approved as printed.
AREA ANIMAL SCIENCE DAYS: This will be held June 30th in St. Croix County. There will also be kids attending the National Holstein
Convention which will be happening at the same time. It was suggested to Chris to mention having Animal Science Days at a different time in
the future so we can have kids attend this event as well.
JUDGING TEAMS: Adam Luchterhand and Jeremiah Hagen will be taking over coaching the judging teams. Pam will have a form put in the
Cloverleaf for kids who are interested in doing this to fill out and return to the Extension Office. On that form they will also indicate if they are
interested in going to the State Fair. These forms will be due May 1st.
FITTING AND SHOWING CLINIC: There will be a Fitting and Showing Clinic. We are just not sure yet when or where it will be. The Junior
Holsteins will also host a showing clinic on the Thursday night of the Clark County Fair as they have done in the past.
STATE FAIR: August 3rd through the 7th. The order of the show has changed and showmanship will now be on Thursday starting at 1:00
p.m. On Friday morning the cows will be shown. At noon on Friday small heifers will be shown and on Saturday the yearlings will be shown.
Entries for the State Fair will be June 1st. Ownership rules are different this year and there really are no rules. First year kids going to the
State Fair can only show one animal. This is Clark County’s rule. The state rule is that they are allowed two animals. Our quota for Clark
County will be to fill one semi load, how ever many animals that will be.
The budget for the State Fair was discussed. It would be nice to get donors for the kids who are going as this can get quite costly. The
Leaders Federation does have some money that it will donate. The kids are also able to apply individually for a $50 donation from the
Leaders Federation if they write a letter to them. When we get the list of kids who are interested in the State Fair, it will be discussed further
with them how to raise some money for this trip to cut down on their cost. Lance Bauer will be handling the trucking again for us this year.
DISTRICT SHOW: Will be held in Neillsville on June 22nd and 23rd. There was discussion about possibly having a concession stand open
during the show. Chris was going to look into whether or not there would be a charge to a group to have this.
CLARK COUNTY FAIR: This will be August 10th through the 14th. The parlor will be open on Thursday afternoon of the fair. Rich Meyer will
look into the parlor and make sure everything is ready for the fair. Dennis Roehl will be handling the check-in of animals. Scott Pralle and
Adam Luchterhand will be taking care of stall assignments. Melissa Brecke volunteered to be the superintendent for the Open Class show
with help from Adam, Scott and Dennis. Chris was going to look into whether or not the people in the open class barn have to pitch out their
stalls like the Jr. Fair people do. There was some discussion on showmanship class size. We don’t want the classes too big so the younger
kids aren’t able to properly show. Dennis and Adam will watch the size of the classes to see if in the future this needs to be changed.
Supreme Showmanship is going to be held this year first thing Sunday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. The show will last one hour with the open
show starting at 9:30 a.m. We also discussed creating an area for pictures to be taken of the Junior and Senior champions in an area that
won’t hold up the show. Discussed having the animals taken outside right under the tent that is set up by the big doors or if it is raining to
create an area in the show ring for this. We also discussed having a pile of sawdust brought in and dumped in some empty stalls right behind
the parlor area for people to use on the ramps leading to the show ring and for use in the milking parlor area. Everyone needs to try and lime
these areas and put sawdust down during the day, so it is not such a mess.
Our next meeting will be Monday September 12, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at ADS in Greenwood.
Dennis Roehl moved to adjourn. Scott Pralle seconded and the meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m.

May 14
The Waushara County 4-H Rabbit Association is hosting a
Youth Rabbit Education and Fun Show Day on Saturday, May
14 at the Waushara County Fairgrounds in Wautoma.
Purebred, crossbred and pet Rabbit classes in addition to fun
and showmanship classes will be judged. Educational events
include breed and DQ identification, rabbit color and breed
trivia, demos on DQ, tattoos, trimming nails and wool spinning
and a rabbit hopping demo.

Rodeo City Riders Drill Team

Registration Due, April 15
Rodeo City Riders Drill Team is taking an active role in
promoting the advancement of horsemanship through drill
team education and performance. Participants will learn
the fundamentals of drill team performance including the
basics of team development, building a team identity and
commitment. Educational goals include horse nutrition,
hydration and conditioning relative to the demands of a drill
team performance horse.
This clinic is co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Horse Council
and geared at advancing our youth’s horsemanship skills in
equine drill team performance and understanding. The
clinic is Saturday, July 9th and registration is due by April
15th.

I am going to do a brain dump, aka verbal vomit on paper if you will about what pops up when I am scrapping the barn alley.
First, the reconfiguration of UW-Extension, which is complicated and confusing and I prefer not to spend time on it. However,
that is not fair to all of you so I will do my best to explain what I know at our joint meeting in April.
Second, the fair book in hopes I captured all the suggestions people have shared with me over the past year and I have reflected
them appropriately.
Third, volleyball, let me clarify 4-H volleyball and how we keep the “fun” in it while matching the skills and talents of the teams
appropriately so everyone has a fair opportunity to participate and some day win.
Fourth, slam dunk for Reseburg Ramblers help in getting the rental fee for the Thorp High School down to $32 to have a
custodian come in and lock all the doors (BOOYAH).
Fifth, welcome to Clark County signs and whoever my predecessors were to file the appropriate paperwork with the DOT so our
signs can remain and be updated (whew...that was close).

Marla Lampi called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. on March 8, 2016 at the ADS building in Greenwood, pledges were recited.
Executive Board Roll Call:

Secretary’s Report
The Secretary’s Report was posted in the March Cloverleaf for review. Judy Morrow moved to accept the secretary’s report, Topanga
seconded, motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Judy Morrow moved to retain contract with Kamp Kenwood with low camper numbers, seconded by Topanga Hanson, motion carried.
Discussed cost for family sending two or more children to extended camp. Judy Morrow moved the first two campers pay the full price of $60
for extended camp; then a reduction to $40 for the third, fourth, fifth and more siblings coming to camp seconded by Topanga, motion carried.
Judy moved to donate nine 2013 plat books to Clark County Interstate Trip Exchange, seconded by Topanga Hanson, motion carried.
Discussion of the $25 fee for the 2016 plat book returned for discussion because of a forgotten $2 fee for each plat book that goes to planning
and zoning. Judy Morrow rescinded the $25 price of the book, seconded by Lisa Artac, motion carried. Judy Morrow moved to increase the
2016 plat book fee to $30, seconded by Lisa Artac, motion carried.
Melissa Brecke requested clarification on state fair line item in which requested funds for Dairy participants come out of upon receipt, review,
and voting on request for state fair funds. Horse Expo and State Gymkhana are the “state fair” events for the horse program. Requested
Horse program follow same procedure to retain consistency across participants attending state fair. Agent Hollar will follow up with Horse
Committee about update.
Food Stand Apprentice/Apprentices- in search for a person or people willing to supervise the food stand. Food stand supervisors track hours
and are reimbursed nominally.
Unfinished Business
The “Welcome to Clark County Signs” are complete and in the Courthouse Cage. Denny Fleischman will assist in hanging new signs.
Volleyball Tournament thanks went out to Topanga Hanson, Bryana & Kathy Meyers, Walter’s, Brost, and Berg families in setting up.
The Leaders Federation will be hosting the Green Thumb Challenge at the 2016 Clark County Fair.
Bryana Meyers gave the Junior Leader Report (see meeting minutes).
New Business
Jerry Micke and Sheryl Jacque shared ideas they would like to donate to the fairgrounds in memorial of Janice Micke. They are working on an
octagon table to donate to the fairgrounds along with a small version 4 x 4 foot plywood barn quilt to put up on the outside of the sheep and
goat barn.

Agent Hollar Report
The State 4-H Office has created a 4-H Mandated Reporter training, which is housed on 4honline. It will take between 30 to 40 minutes to
complete with a quiz at the end to check on knowledge retention. There is the ability to print a certificate as well as log in and out of your session if something comes up.
New adult volunteer orientation training coming from the state office called “Volunteers in Preparation.” The every 4-year criminal background
checks will be conducted by the state, with the fee being covered by the state.
Agent Hollar shared the updated, yet still in progress of the Clark County website.

Operation Military Kids (OMK) is a program that provides opportunities for service members and their families to partake in various
outings including summer camps for children of military men and women. Approximately 75 children attend camps at Upham
Woods in Wisconsin Dells each summer. These camps provide children of military families the opportunity to share with others,
like themselves, who deal with military life and to enjoy a few days to relax and have fun!
The United States Department of Defense previously funded these camps but has cut their funding. 4-H clubs in Wisconsin can
help in three ways.
1. Place donation cans at businesses in towns of your members.
2. Hold a special fundraiser to seek donations. It could be a spaghetti dinner a walk/run, or a silent auction. Be creative !
3. Donate from existing club funds.
All donations should be remitted via check payable to the University of Wisconsin-Extension and mailed to Noah Samuelsen,
Rio Go-Getters President, by May 15, 2016. Please include a brief note indicating how the
funds were raised. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at sabrsha@gmail.com.
