CINCO DE MAYO DINNER
May 5, 2012
Happy Cinco de Mayo! CCFSC Board members hosted an amazing Cinco de
Mayo dinner on unit 4800 the evening of May 5th. All the families on the unit
(as well as some very lucky nurses!) enjoyed a very tasty meal of shredded beef
with the works! Rice, beans, salsas, guacamole and chips, or as we called it: the
“Sampler.” The conference room was transformed into a Mexican Fiesta with
lots of decorations and festive music. And you can’t forget dessert! We had
yummy home-baked cupcakes topped with sombreros. Delicious! A special
thank you to all the Board members for preparing wonderful dishes and making this dinner possible.

Carne desmechada, arroz, frijoles, salsas,

We held our 24th Annual Golf Tournament on May 21 at the beautiful
Sierra Lakes Golf Club in Fontana,
CA. We had an amazing group of
golfers join us for a day of golf and
fun.
The Golf Tournament is held every
year to raise awareness of our program and to raise much needed
funds to continue our services to
families.
Thank you to all of our sponsors
for their dedication to our mission
of supporting families who have a
child with cancer: Wildermuth Environmental, San Bernardino Public Employees Association, Public
Financial Management and Innovative Federal Strategies. We also
appreciate all the Board Members
and volunteers that dedicated
their time to help with the golf
tournament. A warm thank you to
Chief Peter Brierty for brightening
up the dinner, we greatly appreciate your support as our MC for the
evening. Thank you for all your
hard work!

“BARKIN’ FOR KIDS” DOG WALK
June 2, 2012
A dog is a man’s best friend and a child’s greatest companion. CCFSC
held its very first Dog Walk on June 2 at the Yucaipa Community Park.
Furry friends and community partners joined in the activities to help
raise funds to benefit children diagnosed with cancer.
We have found that many children battling cancer find great comfort in
the companionship of a furry friend. CCFSC took this time to raise community awareness about childhood cancer and fund-raise to benefit
families who have a child diagnosed with cancer. There were vendors,
educational info booths, a live DJ, food, a K-9 demonstration and more.
We also partnered
with the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley to raise
awareness of their programs and services.
Thank you to all the volunteers, participants, and vendors who
joined to support our program!
CAMINATA DE PERROS
2 junio, 2012

FAMILY PICNIC
June 10, 2012
The 31st Annual Family Picnic was held on June 10th at Hunter Hobby Park in Riverside. The California Correctional Peace
Officers Association prepared hamburgers and hot dogs on
the barbeque as we played some fun picnic games.
The women were victorious again this year at tug-a-war
against the guys. We paired up for sack races, three-legged
sack races, and water balloon toss. Throughout the day, everyone enjoyed their time with families at the playground. To
end our day of activities the children gathered around for a
refreshing game of water balloon “sharing.”
We would like to thank the California Correctional Peace Officers Association for sponsoring our picnic and for all your
hard work at the grill. The food was delicious! A special thank
you to the Live Steamers for providing fun train rides around
the park for all to enjoy. We appreciate all of the hard work
and dedication to our special children.
PICNIC DE FAMILIA
10 junio, 2012

FAMILY CAMP
June 22-24, 2012
The 7th Family Camp Session for CCFSC families was held on
June 22-24 at the Thousand Pines Christian Camp in Crestline.
The 3 day-2 night adventure began with a meet ‘n’ greet in
the Malt Shop with all the kids and their parents. We played a
quick game of “Get to know your partner” and Heads up 7-up.
That evening we had a campfire filled with lots of songs, fun
games, and yummy ‘smores.
There were plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy throughout the weekend. Parents were very lucky to join the children
for target practice at the Paintball field. Everyone enjoyed
a weekend filled with lots of arts & crafts, courage course
achievement, climbing wall and zip line and outdoor games.
Thousand Pines treated our group to fresh baked cinnamon
rolls followed by a night hike. We would like to give a special
thank you to our Family Camp Sponsors: the Silver Dollar Club!
Thank you for offering us the opportunity to share a fun-filled
weekend with the families. We would also like to thank the
wonderful staff at Thousand Pines and our volunteer chaperones that helped us make this weekend of fun possible.
CAMPAMENTO DE FAMILIA
22-24 junio, 2012
Summer 2012 • Page 7
y Heads up 7-up.
Join us as we march down the streets of Loma Linda, CA to the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital to raise
awareness of childhood cancer.
More children die of cancer than any other disease including asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and AIDS COMBINED.
This event is held in memory of a beautiful young lady, Brianna Cadman, who lost her battle against cancer in
December 1999 at the age of 12. The Kids Walk is a community awareness and fundraiser event. We take this opportunity to make the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer known to the community as we place an emphasis
on early detection which is key in saving the lives of young people battling this disease.
Only $10 to register as a walker! More information available online!

TEEN CONNECTION
SCANDIA
April 21, 2012
Teen Connection reunited for a fun day in the sun while riding some
awesome rides at Scandia Amusement Park in Ontario on April 21st.
We dared each other to ride the rollercoaster, brave the Cliff Jumper
and the Swedish Swing, and held tight to our tummies as we spun
round and round in the Nordic Spaceship.
We got a little competitive when we went head to head on the miniature golf course and battled each other at the go karts and water
bumper boats. The water bumper boats were so refreshing!
It’s always exciting to spend a day at an amusement park. There are so
many fun activities and rides for everyone. We’d like to thank Kristin
and Kim for joining the teens on this fun adventure!
SCANDIA
21 abril, 2012
