 Our Story
At its core, the story of Reuling Vineyard is a love story 60
years in the making. Tim and Jackie Reuling, Midwesterners
by birth, first met at pre-school in Morton, Illinois and dated in
junior high school. They parted ways for college, with Jackie
attending the University of Iowa to study special education
and psychology, and Tim attending Colorado College and then
Virginia for his MBA.
A serendipitous reconnection in 1978 while both Jackie and
Tim were back in Illinois visiting their families re-kindled an
old romance, resulting in their marriage the following year.
The two shared a love of travel and would regularly take trips
to Latin America and Europe.
It was, in fact, one of their trips, to a culinary course in
Provence, France that would inspire the Reulings to move to
California. Encouraged by the slow food culture of France,
Jackie realized that her dream of having a large garden,
surrounded by a beautiful countryside, farmers markets and an
artist community, could all be a reality in Sonoma County.
Her parents had retired nearby, and it was the perfect place to
raise the couple’s young children, Josh and Whitney.
The two moved to Sonoma County in 1990, and in 1998,
purchased the property in Forestville that is now home to
Reuling Vineyard.
Jackie and Tim’s partnership is at the root of Reuling
Vineyard. Committed to creating a thriving vineyard on the
16-acre property, where they also live, Jackie and Tim worked
to restore and revitalize the soil. The two started with a
neglected apple orchard and, through the use of historic clones
and organic farming methods, transformed it into one of
Sonoma’s great vineyard sites.
The Reuling family commitment to the vineyard is steadfast.
Jackie and Tim’s children are also deeply connected to the
family business. Josh Reuling is a juvenile public defender in
Boston and married Marika Beaton Reuling in the vineyard in
August 2013. Whitney Reuling has followed her mother’s
passion for food and community and is Program Manager for
The Sylvia Center, a NYC food education non-profit.

Winery Overview
Overview
Reuling Vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast AVA, just outside the town of Forestville, California. Planted in 2000, Reuling
Vineyard has developed into one of the premier Pinot Noir & Chardonnay properties in California.
Comprised of 12.2 acres of Pinot Noir, three clones comprise the blend—Calera, and two different “suitcase” clones from the VosneRomanée region of Burgundy. The Reulings also farm 2.2 acres of Chardonnay using a clone from the famed Montrachet vineyard in
Burgundy that Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate has dubbed “The Reuling Clone.” The sandy Goldridge soils that make up the
vineyard floor are ideally suited to these varieties, naturally stressing the vines, which result in low yields and concentrated flavors.
The Reuling estate comprises 16 acres of land; more than 14 of which are planted to pinot noir and chardonnay. In addition to the
vineyard, the property includes a large organically-farmed garden with fruit and olive trees, raised beds and lush flowering grounds.
Wines
For the past nine years, the grapes from Reuling Vineyard have created some of the most critically acclaimed Pinot Noirs and
Chardonnays in the country, including wine produced by Aubert and Peter Michael. In 2013, Reuling Vineyard released the first
vintage (2011) of its eponymous Pinot Noir and a 2012 Pinot Rose under the direction of winemaker, Matt Taylor. A Reuling
Vineyard Chardonnay debuted in spring 2014.
Winemaker
Matt Taylor’s passion for wine is infectious and his style can be described as “weight without heaviness.” With over a decade of
Biodyamic® viticulture and winemaking experience under his belt, Matt shares Tim and Jackie Reuling’s steadfast desire to produce
wines that are reflective of the land on which they are grown—balanced, nuanced and expressive. He has been featured in the San
Francisco Chronicle as a “Winemaker to Watch” and as a “40 Under 40 Tastemaker” by Wine Enthusiast. Previously, Matt has
worked at the prestigious Araujo Estate Wines, Joseph Swan Vineyards and Domaine Dujac.
Sustainability
Reuling Vineyard is based on the principle that what is best for the Earth is also best for wine. In the vineyard, the Reulings plant a
diverse array of cover crops after each harvest to improve soil health and promote growth. They utilize a small herd of sheep to
support vineyard management, and have installed a windmill to protect sensitive grapes from fluctuations in temperature. There are
owl boxes and beehives that promote a healthy ecosystem. All of these efforts contribute to a reduction in the vineyard’s overall
carbon footprint – even better wines.
