Democratic Zone Chairmen Held Open Forum About Convention
The Democratic Zone Chairmen of
the Third Legislative District, conducted
an open forum at the Peppermint
Lounge, at William and Cedar Sts.,
(Mandy's) to discuss action taken by the
Erie County Democratic Committee at
the Nominating Convention, at the
Convention Center, which denied them
the right to nominate a candidate tor the
3rd Legislative District, because in the
opinion of the County Chairman, Joseph
Crangle, a quorum was not present.
The announcement from the Zone
Chairmen, said in part, ‘ The action
taken by the current (3rd) District
Legislator, William Robinson, Vice
Chairman Joseph Merritt and the
Chairman of the Erie County Democratic
Committee, Joseph Cfangle, is un
acceptable (declaring that there was not
a quorum)."
“ It was an insult to the community,
to you and to the Zone Chairmen... The
Chairman of the Erie County Democratic
Party disregarded an official constituted
meeting of duly elected Democratic
Committeepersons, at which a quorum
was present; rapped his gavel; turned
his back on us and proceeded to walk
out.”
This meeting was very civil for
political encounters.
They had
disagreements without being disagree
able. A majority of the committeeper
sons present were backers of Edward
Herndon, yet ex-Legislator, Barry
Robinson, was allowed to speak
uninterrupted, on behalf of his father,
who is the present Legislator, and
sincere condolences were expressed for
his mother, who has cancer — a giant
step forward in 3rd Legislative politics.
Committeeman Frank Hughes, said
that the nominating meeting called by
Crangle, was illegal because ot
insufficient notice; committeepersons
were given the wrong information on
where the meeting was being held; not
allowing enough time for the committee
persons to find the correct location; and
a quorum was present, with people
outside of the door, trying to get in.
Barry Robinson said;
“ At that
meeting, there were only 43 committee

I am not backing any

But I have a
problem when the Democratic Party
chooses to implement their own rules to

resent it when the party of my choice

Evelyn Pinnick was puzzled by the
fact that the media has given this
incident so little attention.
Some of the zone chairmen and
committeepersons who are backing
Herndon, have opened up headquarters
at 371 Broadway at the corner of
