SCHOOL REPORT’S – August 27, 2015
GLENWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Welcome back to the 2015-2016 school year. We are so excited to begin the new school
year. I enjoyed seeing several of our teachers this summer, either busy working in our
district summer school programs or learning new strategies at the various workshops
offered. We are excited that our new technology has arrived and that we will have
additional computers for our students.
Staffing News
There have been a few changes in teaching assignments for this coming year due to
retirements, grade level changes and transfers to other buildings.
It is my pleasure to introduce the newest members of our Glenwood staff: Mrs. Coleen
Fickes will be our new secretary. Mrs. Amy Lenton will be our new nurse. Ms. Kortne
Mazzella & Mrs. Meghan Whalen will be our new third grade teachers. Mrs. Melissa
Johnson is returning and will be our Title I Reading Specialist. Ms. Lindsi Ciufetelli will be
our Title I Math teacher. Ms. Mary Kate Nolan will be substituting in second grade for
Mrs. Melissa Miller. Ms. Heather Gallagher will be substituting in third grade for Mrs. Kate
Megahey. Mrs. Karla Astfalk will be substituting in fifth grade for Mrs. Stacy Gallagher.
Mrs. Chrissy Raymond is returning in a new position as a Support Staff II (1:1). Despite
the changes, we continue to be the same outstanding staff, dedicated to teaching each
student.
A big thank you goes out to Coleen Fickes who has worked so hard to get the office ready
for the start of the new school year and all of the supplies and paperwork in order. Greg
Bost, Pat Ragni, Paulette Goolsby and Carl Holland, as well as the district maintenance
crew, have once again prepared the campus for the start of the school year. The
renovation projects are almost complete and the landscaping has been completed around
the building.
All the classrooms are clean and ready for our students’ safe return!

INDIAN LANE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PA Governor’s Institute for P-3
A leadership team from Indian Lane and the surrounding community were chosen to
attend the 2015 P-3 Governor’s Institute. The title of the Institute, “P-3 CollaborationWorking Together for Student Success,” provided a vehicle for Indian Lane and
community representatives to address the pre-K and elementary collaboration component
of the RTMSD Comprehensive Plan. The leadership team selected to attend the P-3
Governor’s Institute included Christine Seeley, Acting Principal, Stacy McMorrow, special
education kindergarten teacher, Lisa Roccia, Occupational Therapist, Karen Meile, first
grade teacher, Wendy Barton, second grade teacher, Jason Fialkovich, youth services
librarian for the Middletown Free Library, and Christina Ayoub and Bonnie Oestrich,
directors/teachers with Lima Christian Nursery School and Bus Stop programs.
Summer Camps
During the summer months, Indian Lane hosted the Middletown Township Summer
Camp, which included junior and senior campers ages 4-12. Campers experienced arts
and crafts, science activities, and outdoor games at Indian Lane Elementary for six
weeks.
Professional Growth
Summertime was an opportunity for learning for many Indian Lane Elementary teachers.
They facilitated or participated in numerous workshops and curricular planning
opportunities.
Examples include preparing targeted instruction for Response to
Instruction and Intervention (RtII) group and preparing for the new math program,
EnVisions 2.0.
Facilities
Debbie Reischer worked diligently to process all budgetary requests and to update all
communications for the start of the new school year. Joel Schupp and his team
spotlessly cleaned all of Indian Lane Elementary, partnered with contractors on building
projects, and updated room assignments. The RTMSD summer maintenance crew
beautified our outdoor spaces, including our point of pride: The Norm Kelly Courtyard.
The building leak remediation project and computer lab to classroom project were
completely successfully. Many thanks to Mrs. Reischer, Mr. Schupp and our facilities and
maintenance teams for preparing Indian Lane for a new school year.
Indian Lane Events
Indian Lane hosted a New Family Breakfast. Speakers at the New Family Breakfast
included Principal, Christine Seeley, PTG Members, Tina Cox and Heather Gilmore,
Secretary, Debbie Reischer, and Guidance Counselor, Jess Hilden. Students and their
families learned about Indian Lane procedures and points of pride. Student ambassadors
took new students and their families on a scavenger hunt of Indian Lane. Indian Lane
welcomes over 20 students in grades 1-5 plus all of our incoming kindergarten students!
Indian Lane Elementary looks forward to a positively successful 15-16 school year!

SPRINGTON LAKE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Springton Lake had a busy summer hosting a variety of summer programs, including
Extended School Year (ESY). Our staff has also been working hard to prepare the
building for the return of students in September. New signs displaying our Springton Lake
pride have been installed in the Auditorium Lobby. Many of our teachers have been
working on curriculum innovations and collaborative planning over the summer. In
particular, our math teachers have been very active in preparation for the launch of the
new math program, Big Ideas.
Our Administrative Team has been very busy with interviewing and hiring new teachers
and staff members. We look forward to introducing these outstanding individuals to our
school community. Our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Michelle Britton, also started with us
over the summer. She has been busy learning all about Springton Lake and she is eager
to begin working with our students and staff.
Orientation Activities
Springton Lake hosted new sixth grade students, on Thursday, August 13th and Tuesday,
August 25th, during “Transition Camp.” The event included a general session, where both
new students and parents learned valuable information about the sixth grade experience
and met key personnel. Following the overview, parents said good bye to their students
for the balance of the morning. Camp consisted of three interactive workshops led by
administrators, teachers and guidance counselors, each session aimed at easing

anxieties through positive social-emotional activities. Next, an expert panel of seventh
grade students fielded a wide variety of questions posed by new sixth graders, wondering
about life in middle school. Finally, everyone enjoyed a picnic barbeque and “get to know
you social” to close out Camp. An orientation breakfast program, specifically geared to
new 7th and 8th grade students, was held on Thursday, August 20th. Current Springton
Lake 8th grade students served as tour guides and answered the new students’ questions
about life at our school. All of the sessions were very well attended!
While we hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer, we miss our students very
much and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on September 8th. We are
expecting nothing less than another outstanding year for Springton Lake Middle School!

Penncrest Sports
The PHS fall sports season began with our Student-Athlete Orientation earlier this
month. More than 350 student-athletes arrived to start practice for the Varsity and JV
cross country, volleyball, field hockey, cheerleading, soccer, golf, tennis, and football
teams. Freshman teams are starting up over the next few weeks. New this year was the
PIAA requirement for Football Acclimatization. The football team was required to report a
week earlier than the rest of the teams in order to gradually adjust to the heat while
wearing the necessary football equipment. We wish all of our teams a successful, safe
seasons.
New Surfaces
Our students will be walking on 4 new surfaces this year when the school year begins.
The much-anticipated transition to artificial turf and the new track surface are welcomed
additions to the Louis Scott Stadium. The Kaufman Gymnasium has a newly painted and
sealed floor. Finally, all of our students will traverse the cafeteria on a new floor. The
Penncrest High School campus has surely been busy.
All-Pro Teacher David Miller
The Philadelphia Eagles have developed the “All-Pro Teacher” program to recognize
outstanding teachers (grades 6-12) in the tri-state area for their contribution to their
students, school, and community. David Miller from the Penncrest High School Science
