Comics & Sequential Art Workshop with Louie Joyce
Learn to tell your own stories through the comic book medium. Participants will learn the
basics of visual storytelling, and composing images and narratives for the comic book page.
11am-12noon. Ages 15+, Cost $10. Materials supplied.

broadcast media, with additional expertise in social media and consumer technology. She
regularly appears on morning television programs and moonlights as a freelance professional

Karen will teach the basics of comic scriptwriting: structure, formats, panel descriptions,
dialogue/captions, different styles of scriptwriting (Alan Moore vs. Marvel method). And will
work through some aspects of the visual language of comics: types of shots, page layouts
(grids, panel counts per page, splash pages, double page spreads, etc), panel transitions, as
well as having a go at writing a comic script.

Evan will go over the basics of planning out your drawings, anatomical breakdowns of the
head and figure, as well as tips to help you improve as an artist.
Evan has been drawing for well over 30 years, working in the animation industry for over 20
years and teaching for over 10 years.

Ed will teach the basics of cartoons, character design and caricatures, with emphasis on
shape, expression and storytelling, creating characters and comics.
Ed Dyer is a freelance illustrator and caricature artist. He has been the official cartoonist for
Luna Park Sydney since 2008.

Two artists, two different styles, who will be supreme? Will it
be the Western/US style of Marcelo, or will it be the Eastern/
Manga style of Matt? Come see artists Marcelo Baez and Matt
Lin do a live character drawing, promptly followed by a battle
of art and wits as they show who is faster with the pen! Who
will you cheer for? Team Marcelo, or Team Matt? Be part of the
team and even have a go at this comic-inspired Pictionary!

Jinberry: Regine Clarke
Drawing Life (13-16 yrs)
TOWN HALL - OCEAN ROOM
As artists, we are always told to “draw from life”... but there’s so much information from a model.
How do we choose WHAT to draw on paper? This workshop will show you how Regine approaches
this age-old advice. See how she deciphers the essence of the pose (the gesture) and translates
it to paper. Instead of drawing FROM life, you will be drawing life itself.
Regine Clarke has exhibited in shows in Sydney and interstate as an active member in the
pop culture scene, making art out of the whimsical adventures that spur from her imagination
and from the world around her.
