Spring 2010 - Catholic Pro
The Catholic Pro-Life Committee of North Texas Spring 2010 Volume 19 Issue 1 The Year Ahead From Karen Garnett, CPLC Executive Director This is certainly a great time to be a part of the pro-life movement, the greatest human rights campaign in history. God has blessed us in so many ways up to this point and we look forward to counting his blessings in the years to come. But what do we expect in the year ahead? We expect more attacks on human life, more attacks on our beloved Pope, Benedict XVI, more attacks on the Church and the pro-life movement. We can expect more government funding for groups like Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions on earth. And sadly, we can also expect to hear about more tragedies like that of 37 year old Alexandra Nunez who died from a so-called “safe” and legal abortion in Queens, New York in January. We can expect to hear more from abortionist Curtis Boyd who opened up a late-term abortion facility last summer in Dallas and expects to do thousands of late-term abortions here and in New Mexico, where he has another abortion facility. Go to our website at www.prolifedallas.org/southwestern to see interviews and read about Curtis Boyd and the woman who died from an abortion he performed years ago in Dallas. As we keep our eyes on what is taking place (Please see Year Ahead, page 4) Late-Term Abortions The battle at husband and another small child. Please join us in this effort. The new late-term abortion facility opened its doors in October 2009 and has been killing unborn babies ever since. The facility is run by long-time abortionist Dr. Curtis Boyd, who has a deep-rooted abortion history in Dallas since 1973. Boyd admitted to Channel 8 news that he performed 300,000 abortions during this time. Among the dead in his record is 22year-old Vanessa Preston, who died in 1991 from complications after having an abortion performed by Boyd. Preston left behind a What’s Inside: • Pictures of the Bishop’s Dinner • Render unto Caesar Civic Action Conference July 17th • Pro-Life Boot Camp for ages 14 and up • Roe Memorial event largest ever Bishop’s orders: “Next year, double the crowd!” Fr. Facing one of the most challenging years on the attack against life in our country, the crowd of pro-life supporters was inspired and energized to go back out and support the cause of life! Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell (left) congratulates Daniel Cardinal DiNardo (right), for receiving the 2010 Bishop Grahmann Award for Exemplary ProLife Leadership. Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston-Houston, and new Chair of the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities, encourages the crowd to keep faith in Christ as they purse their mission to protect life. They do not happen in the halls of Congress. They happen here, in our community, in our backyards, and we have got to be there to spread the message of Christ, and to spread the message of hope to these men and women who feel like there is no hope for them.” (left to right) Daniel Cardinal DiNardo with Fred and Dottie Fink, founders of Birth Choice crisis pregnancy center; Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell; and CPLC Board Member Roger Scott Bishop’s Dinner pictures cont. Roe Ends! Life Wins! Even with the largest crowd ever assembled in Dallas history in commemoration of the Roe vs. Wade decision, the mood at the 2010 Roe Memorial Mass, Rally and Dallas March for Life seemed more intense, the need for change more clear. “We must never give up! Fifty million people have already lost their lives because too many people have stood on the sidelines on this issue for too long…,” exclaimed Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell during the afternoon rally as 7,000 pro-life attendees cheered in front of the Earle Cabell Courthouse in downtown Dallas. The Routh street abortion center in the 4300 block of North Central Expressway saw 500 people descending from shuttle busses to pray the Rosary at 8 a.m. before heading over to Guadalupe Cathedral for the pro-life Memorial Mass. Stay connected with the Dallas March for Life all year long at the new official site, www.dallasmarch4life.org The next Roe Memorial Mass, Rally and Dallas March for Life will be Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. The Year Ahead cont. from page 1 nationally and internationally though, we are not losing sight of our efforts locally. We have seen increased attendance at every single one of our major public events which coincides with poll after poll that show more and more people, especially young people, are pro-life and are willing to live out their beliefs. Specifically, by our efforts to help young mothers in need, training youth, speaking in our Churches and schools, reaching out to the Hispanic community, providing healing for post-abortive men and woman, training citizens to become involved in the public square, we are constantly advancing the Culture of Life so as to bring an end to the Culture of Death. become such a huge public witness (last year almost 7,000 people attended the Rally!) the coalition of leaders that plan this event decided to create a separate website which you can see at www.dallasmarch4life.org. On this web site you will find all the latest information about every event that will take nd place next January 22 , 2011 in downtown Dallas. If you came to our dinner in April (our largest crowd ever!) then you know the work we do has a huge impact on the lives of the people we serve. We are not about rhetoric; we are about living this movement and you are a part of this movement with us. Please help us in the year ahead with your time, money and support. God bless you. And because the annual downtown January Roe events have GEMS Graduates Civic Action Conference: Render Unto Caesar A conference to train and activate grassroots citizens to become involved in defending life in the public square. Hear from experts in the field. Learn to make a difference in the upcoming Texas Legislative Session. Learn what the Church teaches about civic involvement and why you should be involved.
