Regarding thermal insulation this technique is no longer up to date (illustration 1). It is no longer possible to lower the heat transfer coefficient to an acceptable level with this technique or by increasing the gap between the profile shells to cover the synthetic bridges. Even inserting additional, complicated and expensive measures at a latter point such as inserting insulating materials for example or special sealing profiles into the profiles delivered by the manufacturer cannot lower the U-value to under 1.8 W/m²K. Also these additional measures cannot be thoroughly checked by the investor. The better window-system by PURAL PURAL GmbH & Co. KG has found a much more efficient way to cope with the increasing demands of thermal separation and the relevant thermotechnical qualities of the metal profile frame with its products PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL STAINLESS STEEL (illustration 2 and 2b). This efficiency can be achieved using a polyurethane integral hard centre as the heat shield, which thermally separates the outer and inner profile shell with an appropriate volume and keeps them firmly together. The related thermotechnical qualities of this profile frame are comparatively unmatched. Only in connection with the heat shield all advantages of a metal-window/door system compared to other materials become apparent. The systems PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL STAINLESS STEEL do not require any thermal insulation measures. With the outstanding calculated low thermal transmittance value for a blind frame/window sash combination of only 1,0 W/m²K and 1,4 W/m²K not only a vast amount of energy can be saved, but also the people living and working in these rooms experience a superior comfort level. PURAL-INFO 2 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de The isothermal characteristics of PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL STAINLESS STEEL windows prevents building damage In conventional thermally separated metal windows (aluminium or steel) the thermal insulation value of the window frame is considerably lower than the glazing´s and the insulated transitions to the building. Therefore these systems tend to condensate on the inner window profile surfaces and at the transition points. This can lead to damage and furthermore be the cause of mildew and germs, which is a serious hygienic concern in buildings, where people live and work. Low Ufactors combined with the metal profile´s inner surface temperature matching room temperature, can ensure that frame and glass surface are structural-physically homogeneous and of nearly the same insulation quality. This prevents condensation and naturally the cause of mildew and germs. Due to the favourable isothermal characteristics within the heat shield (illustration 3 and 3b) the window systems with the polyurethane centre can be fitted facade flush without objection unlike other metal window systems with insulation bridges. Residue on the window sills and the connected fouling of the facade can be avoided. Through this, cleaning and maintenance can be kept to a minimum. It is only logical to conclude, that the amount of cleaning required in the room can be reduced, due to the lack of condensation and dirt. PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL STAINLESS STEEL windows ensure more comfort With conventional thermally separated metal window profiles the measurable temperatures on the inner profile surfaces differ from the room temperature in the winter. Through this a chill emerges, that can be perceived as a pseudo draught and cause people living and working in those rooms great discomfort. With the window and door systems PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM und PURAL STAINLESS STEEL the metal shells rest firmly and without a cavity on the heat shield. In conjunction with the high thermal insulation value of the polyurethane centre the inner surface temperature matches room temperature even at low outside temperatures. Therefore no chill emerges. - No pseudo draught. Even being near the window feels comfortable. PURAL-INFO 3 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM und PURAL STAINLESS STEEL profile manufacturing Manufacturing sandwich profiles, 6 m long, outer and inner shells of aluminium and stainless steel are joined with CFC-free polyurethane foam in the profiles. The resulting massive, rigid and highly insulating heat shield contains all the functional slots to take seals and fittings. The metal shells of the thermally insulating window and door systems are coated with the desired colour before the joining, whereas it is possible to choose different colours for inner or outer profiles. The aluminiumand stainless steel profiles can also be ground decoratively, also with a colour coating of course. Advantages during the basic production of PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL STAINLESS STEEL – windows and doors and PURAL eco ALUMINIUM windows One of the general advantages of this system is the further cost-effective processing of the profiles to the elements. Assembling the window and door profiles to frame elements is quite simple and fast, because it requires neither special machines and tools nor assembling appliances - the only required tool is a rubber hammer (illustration 4). The low processing costs follow from the frame´s smooth assembly via self claw-fastening corner connections, as well as the fittings´ easily bolting into the hard polyurethane centre. The angled flat corner connections of the aluminium systems PURAL ALUMINIUM and PURAL eco ALUMINIUM are simply pressed into the existing cavities. The stainless steel clips embedded in the corner connections claw-fasten tightly to the cavitiy´s aluminum wall. The round corner connections in the stainless steel system PURAL STAINLESS STEEL are simply pushed in with adhesive into the round holes placed by a drilling gauge and also claw-fastened with stainless steel clips in the polyurethane centre. The holohedral mitre cut of both systems is provided with polyurethane adhesive before joining the mitre. By bonding the holohedral mitre the corner connections are unlike all bridged profiles absolutely airtight and free of convection. With this special mitre assembly technique - without welding - even the stainless steel profiles´ surface can be ground decoratively in an economical manner before further processing into bars of 6 m in length. PURAL-INFO 4 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de Furthermore welding is obsolete, as is the welded mitres grinding and dressing, which is normally required with all steel and stainless steel systems. This makes the system PURAL STAINLESS STEEL especially economical. The profile joints look impeccable unlike the conventional welded stainless steel mitres and do not display the common unappealing reflections resulting from the retouching as described above (illustration 5). The thus manufactured frame elements PURAL ALUMINIUM and PURAL eco ALUMINIUM guarantee a high technical standard, long life-cycle and easy serviceability. Furthermore, with conventional metal window systems a considerable amount of energy can only be saved by using expensive, energy efficient glazing. Depending on the building requirements, this is often superfluous with the PURAL systems. Yet saving energy is not the only parameter: PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL EDELSTAHL window systems combine all required qualities Altogether in commercial and public buildings such as hospitals and schools where many people live and work, following qualities in window systems are of vital importance. • energy saving • long life-cycle • little maintenance • hygiene • cleaning • comfort The systems PURAL ALUMINIUM, PURAL eco ALUMINIUM and PURAL STAINLESS STEEL fulfill these qualities unlike conventional metal window systems to its full extent. PURAL-INFO 5 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de General qualites of PUR - hard stuctural foams Rigid polyurethane foam is a thermosetting synthetic, which can be processed at a packing factor of > 2 into hard structural foam – formed components. Due to the structural density allocation, starting from a foam centre to a nearly compact outer layer, this possesses outstanding consistency despite a comparatively light weight, and can therefore be used in many ways, especially as casing and frame elements. At the same time, the polyurethane´s excellent material properties such as • • • • optimal durability good chemical and biological resistance physiological harmlessness mainly odour-free Come into use as do the good formed component properties of PUR- hard structural foam • • • • high rigidity excellent resistance to thermal distortion good surface quality superior insulation property Basic raw materials Polyurethane hard foams are usually manufactured from to liquid components by the PU-fabricator in an existing mould. Firstly pure MDI, which is industrially offered on the global market as polymeric MDI, and secondly an MDI isomer mixture is used. On the other hand a polyol mixture including catalysts, stabilizers and other processing aids are added in order to finally achieve the required component properties. Normally, processing takes place in a 2-K high-pressure factory, mixing the components into the desired mix ratio and batch dose and pouring it into the particular mould. Physiological harmlessness Rigid polyurethane foam, manufactured according to regulations, does not give off physiological relevant chemical substances. In particular, they are free from formaldehyde and heavy metals. PURAL-INFO 6 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de Fire With the appropriate adjustment the rigid PU foams can be classed as B2 according to the German fire code DIN 4102. In the case of a fire, the fume discharge is of a similar composition comparable with the burning of wood, along with a matching oxygen supply. The PURAL-profile´s metal finish, towards the inner and outer area, makes it possible to use in the combustion zones across the floors. Rigid polyurethane foam and environment, ecological aspects In the „Life-cycle-analysis“ a product is regarded "from the cradle to the grave". Applying this to PUR-hard foam the criteria energy input, energy conservation and pollutant releases crucial in the three phases of a product: manufacturing, utilization and recycling. Production Crude oil or renewable resources such as sugar beets, maize, potatoes and recently also recyclates from synthetics are usually the raw the material base in the production of rigid polyurethane foam insulants. Here from the two main components polyol and isocyanate are manufactured. In the case of rigid PU foam crude oil is not burnt for heating purposes, but used to manufacture an insulant, helping to save energy over the course of 30 to 50 years. One cannot imagine a more sensible way of using oil than using it to "save oil". Yet looking at today´s crude oil consumption, about 70 % are used for heating purposes and only about 4 % for the production of synthetics about 12,5 % for fuel about 3,5 % for chemicals and about 10 % for other purposes. From the synthetics only a very small fraction (about 5 %) are used for the production of rigid PU foam insulants. Nowadays, water is used as a propellant, which produces CO2 as an encased cell gas during the chemical reaction with isocyanate. PURAL-INFO 7 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de Emissions during the production of rigid PU foam The industrial polyaddition procedure is applied in the production. The very low MAC value for this MDI of 0.005 ppm isn´t under-run at any point. This has been confirmed by various measurements. Production of rigid polyurethane foam boards During sawing, grinding and milling, physiologically harmless rigid polyurethane foam dust is produced. Working on an industrial scale, the manufacturer has to protect himself – as is done against all kinds of dust – by putting on an appropriate dust mask. (inhalation protection leaflet by the chemical industry´s government safety organization). The airborne dust concentration (general dust threshold according to the technical regulations for dangerous substances TRGS Nr. 900 and 901) must not go beyond these values. Ø 10 mg/m³ (measured as inhaled fraction) Ø 3 mg/m³ (measured as alveolar fraction) Extraction systems are also required to prevent dust deposit in enclosed rooms avoiding dust explosion safely (as with saw dust). Health criteria Rigid PU foam produced following regulations doesn´t give off any physiological relevant amounts of chemical substances, esp. formaldehyde dispense hasn´t been observed. Recycling Rigid PU foam can be recycled. Nowadays adhesive hard board can be made from process waste. Some manufacturers use waste also to make recyclate polyols by means of glycolysis, which are directly used again in manufacturing. PUR hard foam waste that can´t be recycled is put in household waste combustors for thermal recycling. PURAL-INFO 8 PDF wurde mit pdfFactory Pro-Prüfversion erstellt. www.context-gmbh.de Consistency Rigid PU foam is resistant to substances that usually occur in building. It is resistant to age and biologically non-degradable, for example by mildew. Rigid polyurethane foam is resistant to solvents in practical applications such as adhesives, bitumen coatings and pastes, wood preservatives and liner sheets. It has no affinity to softening agents, therefore monomeric softeners from roof sheetings for example don´t move into the foam. Furthermore rigid PU foam is resistant to fuels, mineral oils, diluted acids and alkaline solutions and also not affected by emissions or an aggressive industrial atmosphere. The post-latch facade is construed in such a way, that post and latch are made from the same profile cross-sections. It´s not necessary to catch the latch profiles, while the patented glazing rebate drainage takes place via the latch´s synthetic insulant into the drainage slot of the vertical bolt. The latch is attached via an especially patented joint technique. This is laid out in such a way, that the latch is automatically pressed on to the post, closing the connection joint between latch and bolt. Processing advantages Post and latch profiles with inner edge radius of maximal 0,5 mm for a visually flawless latch attachment at the same building depth. At the same time the inner surface of the latch profile displays the exact same level section. The inner glazing seal with post and latch profiles have the same width perspective. The aluminium post and latch cavities are prepared for the insertion of half-finished profiles (pipe - or longitudinal cross section) in order to create joint and fix points and to raise the static properties. Glazing rebate air ventilation respectively steam pressurization via the bilateral drainage slots in the posts, ventilation takes place via each of the four field corners. Outer glazing seals are available as single seals alternatively with vulcanized end pieces. Outer pressure strips optionally bolted visibly or hidden; visibly bolted pressure strips are available as U-profile or longitudinal profile. Cover jackets for masked bolting are available for different installation heigth.
