Despite a seismic shift to digital communications, the printed medium is alive and well, even though it’s inefficient and expensive. ■■ ■■ ■■ ■■ ■■ 30% of marketing budgets are spent on the creation of printed sales and marketing materials by advertising agencies The creative design process of these printed materials comprises about 40% of the actual production time Approximately 60% of production time is spent correcting and reviewing documents 30% of this time is wasted on searching and re-generating communication materials 90% of all printed communication materials are used only once.2 Wow. Finally! Personalized, customized print: Sitecore Print Experience Manager (PXM) breathes new life into printed marketing materials, giving everything—from brochures and product sheets, to catalogs and store signage—a customized touch, personalized specifically to the recipient. For the first time, Sitecore integrates print into the customer journey, creating a cohesive experience as customers hopscotch between online and offline channels that include websites, e-commerce, email, social and mobile, print collateral, in-person meetings, and call center interactions. 1. “The Office of the Future,” BusinessWeek, June 30, 1975 2. Sitecore CMS serves as the central hub for digital and print content, as well as print template layouts created in Adobe InDesign.™ For print content creation, Sitecore PXM has connectors to Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy.™ This allows information like product details and images to populate not just web content, but also brochures, catalogs, and other print pieces that can be dynamically created to meet individual needs. The result? Printed marketing materials that are as personalized and engaging as each prospect’s online experience, nurturing them forward in their customer journey. Before Sitecore PXM Get control and consistency Just as Sitecore puts marketing in the driver’s seat of the website, Sitecore PXM gives marketers new control of webto-print. Instead of sending inconsistent information the old way, with print materials that are out of date the moment they come off the press, Sitecore PXM helps ensure that prospects receive the freshest content through any channel they interact with in your company. Sitecore PXM doesn’t just benefit marketers. Designers remain in control, too—they can still do their work in Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy, creating print templates that deliver an on-brand, beautiful user experience. Non-designers, too, can easily make minor edits. A “single version of the truth” As illustrated below, Sitecore solves a problem that plagues marketing organizations everywhere—multiple information silos that are impossible to synchronize. By making Sitecore the keeper of all marketing information, your company will finally have a “single version of the truth”— and an incredibly effective way to save time and money. Now that he’s back on the Nicam site, he wants a product brochure. How can you keep the conversation going as he shifts from digital channels to print? Targeted content, just in time Sitecore PXM is the answer. Based on unique visitor information and behavior data that’s been collected by the Sitecore system, Sitecore PXM dynamically targets and serves up a high-quality brochure that’s right for his needs. For this prospect, a professional photographer who’s looking for a new camera, Sitecore dynamically creates a brochure to motivate his next purchase. This brochure can be based on any combination of this visitor’s unique information, including his: First, the prospect, John Johnson, fills out a short registration on the site that captures basic information including name, address, budget, and photography interests. Next, he requests a personalized brochure. ■■ ■■ ■■ ■■ Explicit behavior on the website, including his self-selection as a professional photographer Implicit behavior on the website, like the products he’s looked at Response to an email campaign Purchase history, if he has one, pulling in data from the external product registration system. The result? A personalized, customized, printable product brochure that the prospect can study, using it as an important tool as he considers his next camera purchase. Bonus! These same principles can apply in business-tobusiness professional sales environments. After a salesperson is finished meeting with a prospect, a personalized brochure can be dynamically created, recapping the products and information they discussed. The brochure is created automatically, including Mr. Johnson’s name, a recommended camera model for his interests, special features, and a QR code that can be scanned to create a personalized offer that can be applied online or at a Nicam retail store. He can print off the brochure to study the camera’s features and capabilities, and take it with him to the retail store to help him remember the camera make and model number. 3. For companies that offer many products, and/or globally, Sitecore PXM brings the same focused experience to print that a prospect enjoys online, creating a printable catalog that’s just right. Putting prospects on the path to purchase With 60 companies located in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Africa, AVK Group specializes in supplying a wide range of industrial valves for water and gas, sewage treatment, fire protection, industrial water, and oil and gas. First, the engineer goes to www.avkvalves.com, which lists AVK’s six main market segments. She selects Water Supply. Here, the engineer enters her specifications and other criteria into the Product Finder’s detailed solution configurator. To make its formidable product offering easier to navigate, AVK uses Sitecore to manage its family of websites, which are produced in multiple languages. AVK also uses Sitecore PXM to let prospects dynamically create product catalogs of products they’re interested in. Here, an engineer who wants to find an AVK valve for a specific water supply application can quickly locate the right product. She is researching ways to control the water level in a reservoir. She could browse AVK’s extensive offerings in Water Distribution, Water Plan Work and Water Transmission, but to save time she goes straight to the Product Finder. Yes! There is a valve that meets her needs! She clicks on the link to find out more about the Float Valve. Now the engineer can add specific models of the Float Valve to her Personal Area on the AVK site and print out a consolidated product catalog. 7 White paper // Say hello to print with Sitecore PXM Streamlined catalog production: a designer’s dream Reducing effort, and errors, in catalog production Unlike an individual driving his unique web experience at BoConcept.com, more than 40 people are involved in the production of the BoConcept catalog, which creates the potential for errors. Project managers, merchandisers, graphic designers, and stylists work together to create the perfect look and feel, but mistakes can still happen in the myriad details. BoConcept projects a very precise look and feel in every channel that touches customers, including its stores, website, catalog, email, and social media. The arrival of its print catalog is a special event for BoConcept customers. Now, BoConcept streamlines catalog design and production with Sitecore PXM, assuring consistency across all channels—including print. By using Sitecore PXM to populate the catalog with product descriptions, color and materials choices, SKUs, and other details pulled in from a constellation of enterprise systems, the team can instead focus on creating a beautifully designed print catalog—and not worry about small, but important, details. With a mission “to make modern design furniture available to the urban-minded customer,” BoConcept is one of the world’s most accessible high-style brands. And a global one, too; the Denmark-based retail furniture chain has more than 300 stores in over 50 countries around the world. “The number of people and hours are the same as last year, before we introduced InDesign Server. But it really has reduced the number of mistakes and errors.” —Bettina Praestholm, Graphic Designer, BoConcept 8 White paper // Say hello to print with Sitecore PXM The beauty is in the details: Price Sign Generator Any designer can tell you that not every day is filled with big ideas and grand projects. Administrative tasks can take up much of any workday. The right look, feel, and price—globally At BoConcept, managing price signs at its 300 stores around the world used to consume a lot of staff time. But thanks to a solution based on Sitecore PXM, the time spent on price signs has decreased by 85%. BoConcept’s Price Sign Generator streamlines an important, yet mundane, everyday process, freeing up designers to work on higher-value projects. First, a BoConcept merchandising manager logs into the Price Sign Generator application at any in-store computer. Step 1: Select a category Step 2: Choose a template Step 3: Select a product “This solution has been a bigger success than we could ever imagine.” —Mikkel Lautrup, New Media Coordinator, BoConcept Receive PDF of signs via email—print and post 9 White paper // Say hello to print with Sitecore PXM Ensuring consistency: the multilanguage, multichannel challenge It used to be that print materials were written first in a company’s native language and manually translated into others. The shift to e-commerce, the web, and translation programs, changed all that. Or did it? It’s still a challenge for companies to ensure that information is simultaneously consistent across all channels, especially with fast-changing products and offers. Sitecore: An ideal product information repository MASCOT International A/S is known worldwide for its highquality workwear and safety footwear for craftsmen and industry. With thousands of SKUs for clothing and footwear manufactured in multiple colors and sizes, it used to be a big challenge to update MASCOT’s multiple web sites and print collateral at the same time. “We have achieved our goal on reduction of errors, eradicated double processes by moving the workload to the correct people and, at the same time, released resources for more creative tasks.” —Carsten Jul Christensen, International Marketing Manager, MASCOT International A/S Not any more. Sitecore solved MASCOT’s challenge of keeping product information synchronized. MASCOT now uses Sitecore as its structured content repository, creating a “library” in which information items can be stored in multiple languages. Changes to an item automatically populate out to the website, as well as everything from a personalized email to a catalog page. MASCOT’s structured content repository allows product information to be stored in Sitecore as Library items in multiple languages. MASCOT uses Sitecore to maintain strong information and brand consistency between its website, consumer print catalog and dealer print catalog. Information from the Sitecore library, through Sitecore PXM, populates MASCOT’s print catalog…. … and its online store, ensuring that product details and availability information are synchronized across all customer interaction channels. 10 White paper // Say hello to print with Sitecore PXM The price is right: minute-by-minute, across all channels De Jong Intra Tours is one of Europe’s largest tour operators, offering travelers an ever-changing choice of exciting excursions. One of the reasons De Jong has been a popular choice for over 30 years is its discount pricing, which can change overnight. Sitecore provides a single source of “pricing truth” De Jong Intra Tours has a strong internet presence, but also relies heavily on print circulars to promote its travel offerings. Discrepancies in pricing can lead to consumer confusion and, at worst, lost revenues. To make sure that prices on its website are consistent with those advertised in print circulars, De Jong Intra Tours connects Sitecore to its ERP system, which contains tour pricing and availability information. This also ensures that all information presented to travelers is extremely up-to-date and accurate. Sitecore publishes tour information and prices to the website, while the circulars and all other print collateral are produced using Sitecore PXM. The result? A single source of “pricing truth” ensures the right price, at the right time, all the time. 11 White paper // Say hello to print with Sitecore PXM Marketers: everything gets better with Sitecore PXM Whether you’re in charge of digital or print channels, or both, Sitecore PXM is going to make your life easier.
