CCG-RUMBA • Dual Core CompactPCI® CPU
The CCG-RUMBA is provided with a high
performance mobile chipset (Intel® GME965)
which operates at up to 800MHz FSB and up to
667MHz DDR2 memory clock for optimum
system throughput. The on-board CF connector
module (C10-CFA) can accommodate a
CompactFlash memory card. As an alternate,
the 1.8-inch HDD/SSD disk module C30-PATA is
available as on-board mass-storage device
(option).
Local expansion interface connectors can be
optionally used to directly attach a mezzanine
companion side board, either for audio- and
legacy support, or equipped with PCI Express
based I/O circuitry. Mezzanine cards (aka side
boards) can carry in addition a 2.5-inch hard
disk drive. Also as an option, a suitable rear I/O
transition module (CCT-RIO) is available to the
CCG-RUMBA, which e.g. provides the Serial

C10-CFA (Top Mount CF Card Adapter)
The CCG-RUMBA comes with a CompactFlash
adapter module (C10-CFA), which is suitable to
hold a silicon memory CF card, operated in 'True
IDE Mode' similar to a hard disk. If the CCGRUMBA is accompanied by a mezzanine
expansion module such as the CCH-MARIACHI
or CCJ-RHYTHM, the position of the C10-CFA
CompactFlash adapter module changes to the
mezzanine card.
Optionally an on-board 1.8-inch drive (HDD or
SSD) module is available (C30-PATA). When
ordered, it replaces the CompactFlash adapter
module (please request for a special solution
which allows to use both the CF slot and the
1.8-inch drive simultaneously). The C30-PATA
allows to maintain the 4HP envelope and can
be combined with additional expansion side
boards on the CCG-RUMBA.

CCG-RUMBA • Dual Core CompactPCI® CPU
Available as a rear I/O expansion board to the
CCG-RUMBA CPU card, the CCT-RIO is provided
with several I/O port connectors, to be used
either in addition to the CCG-RUMBA front
panel connectors or alternatively. Being mainly
a passive rear I/O transition module, groups of
signals from the CCG-RUMBA CPU board are
passed across the CompactPCI J2/P2 connector
to the CCT-RIO. Some of the data lines are
available locally on the CCT board for system
internal wiring only, while other connectors
such as VGA-Video and Gigabit Ethernet are
mounted into the back panel for external use.
USB and SATA (eSATA) channels are provided
both on-board and externally.
Typically the CCT-RIO ist equipped with a 4-HP
rear panel (20.3mm width). As a custom
specific option, an 8-HP panel is available with
additional connectors.
Utilization of the CCT-RIO transition module
adds a level of I/O functionality that is not
available with the CCG-RUMBA CPU board
alone. Further on, swapping the CPU card is
simplified by means of rear I/O, which is
important for efficient system maintenance
(MTTR). Be sure to have ordered a CCG-RUMBA
rear I/O capable version and also the CPCI
backplane suitable for rear I/O in order to use
the CCT-RIO transition module.

Expansion Options
Most mezzanine expansion modules require an assembly height of 8HP in total, together with the
CPU carrier board (resulting from two cards at 4HP pitch each).
In addition, reduced size mezzanine modules are available for mass storage, which maintain the 4HP
envelope (C10-CFA, C30-PATA), for extremely compact systems. Furthermore these small size modules
may be combined with the full-size expansion boards (that means an assembly comprised of 3 PCBs).

The picture below illustrates a typical mezzanine stack, comprised of the CPU carrier board (shared
front panel from 4HP to 12HP, individually tailored to customers configuration), a mezzanine side
board with a variety of PCIe and legacy interface functions (front panel and/or rear I/O), and a SATA
storage module (either SSD or hard disk, 1.8-inch or 2.5-inch, dual or single drive, RAID option).

C15-DON (Top) & C33-DON (Bottom)
In order to attach an internal USB dongle or
USB stick (Flash Drive) to a CompactPCI® CPU
board or side card, the C15-DON or C33-DON
can be used, connected to the EXP expansion
port connector. These adapters are functionally
identical, however differ with respect to their
mounting position.
The C15-DON is suitable for top mount,
typically on a mezzanine side card such as the
CCB-BOSSANOVA, thus maintaining the overall
assembly stack height. The C33-DON has been
designed for bottom mount, directly under the
CPU board, hence additional 4HP front panel
width would have to be considered.

CCG-RUMBA • Dual Core CompactPCI® CPU
CCJ-RHYTHM Mezzanine Module
Optionally the CCG-RUMBA can operate as system slot controller in a CompactPCI Express (CPCIe)
system, if it is complemented with the CCJ-RHYTHM mezzanine card. The CCJ is equipped with a
powerful PCI Express packet switch engine, which provides the downstream links required by a CPCIe
4-link configuration backplane. The CCJ-RHYTHM must be mounted on top of the CCG-RUMBA,
which results in a 8HP building block, suitable for a CPCI backplane with rightmost aligned system
slot. While the CPCI backplane system slot matches the CCG-RUMBA CompactPCI CPU board, the
CCJ-RHYTHM is positioned on the leftmost aligned system slot of a CompactPCI Express backplane.
With both backplanes present in a rack, the resulting system is a hybrid solution which allows to
combine CPCI peripheral boards (low cost, broad range) with CPCIe peripheral cards (high throughput
as required e.g. for connectivity and storage purposes). EKF offers also a heterogeneous backplane,
which integrates card slot connectors for both busses, CPCI and CPCIe, on a single PCB.

CCG-RUMBA • Dual Core CompactPCI® CPU
CCL-CAPELLA Mezzanine Module
Available as a mezzanine add-on expansion
board to the CCG-RUMBA and successor CPU
cards, the CCL-CAPELLA provides a number of
additional I/O functions. First of all, the CCLCAPELLA is a powerful Ethernet networking
machine, with up to four independent low
power Gigabit Ethernet controllers. Each GbE
port can be individually routed either to a front
panel jack, or the rear I/O connector, by
software controlled switches (BIOS setup).
The CCL-CAPELLA will be attached on top of the
CPU carrier board, and typically shares its front
panel with the host carrier (usually 8HP front
panel width in total). Interconnection between
the CCL-CAPELLA I/O module and the CPU
carrier board is achieved by two expansion
connectors, which comprise the PCIe (PCI
Express x 4) and LPC (Low Pin Count) interfaces.
As an option, the CCL-CAPELLA is available with
a mezzanine module (C20-SATA), which
accommodates one or two 2.5-inch SATA hard
disk drives (RAID option). Additionally, a
CompactFlash card adapter (C17-CFA) can be
mounted on bottom of the CCL-CAPELLA. As an
alternative, a top mount 1.8-inch storage
module (C30-PATA) is available, for HDD or SSD
usage. As another option, up to two USB Flash
drive modules can be accommodated, top and
bottom.
The additional SATA/PATA controller is useful
for attachment of mass-storage devices, either
on-board mounted, or externally (by cable or
via rear I/O).
The optional FireWire ports are practical e.g. for
vision systems with mixed 1394a and GbE type
cameras, and is especially useful for quality-ofservice demanding and isochronous
applications.
The CCL-CAPELLA is best suited for demanding
networking I/O applications, e.g. routers,
gateways, vision systems, or network fabric.
Maximum throughput is achieved through PCI
Express technology. Combined with the two
GbE ports available on the CPU carrier board,
six individual networking interfaces altogether
are provided for high performance Ethernet
communication.
Furthermore the CCL-CAPELLA is equipped with
a SIO, which provides legacy I/O ports, such as
serial, parallel, KB/MS (all available across rear
I/O). A secondary Firmware Hub can be
configured as alternate- or backup-BIOS.
Another option available is the Trusted Platform
Module according to TPM 1.2 for safety critical
applications.
