Tacoma Narrows Bridge under Wind Load - Lehrstuhl für Statik
Technische Universität München Bachelorarbeit: Lehrstuhl für Statik Prof. K.-U. Bletzinger Arcisstr. 21 80333 München Tacoma Narrows Bridge under Wind Load Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is the interaction between some deformable structure and the fluid around or inside it. Typical applications of FSI include aeroelastic behavior of bridges, aircraft wings, wind turbine blades. One of the most infamous examples is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which opened in July 1940 but collapsed due to aeroelastic flutter four months later. The partitioned strategy for solving FSI allows reusing existing and well-tested structure mechanics codes and fluid dynamics codes. During each time step, the structure code and the fluid code will solve individually and exchange the fluid load and the structure displacements at the interface. In this work, the aerodynamic flutter of Tacoma Narrows Bridge will be modeled and simulated. The software for the FSI simulation include EMPIRE, the coupling tool; Carat++, the structure mechanics code; and OpenFOAM, the fluid dynamics code. The interest in C++ programming is required for this work.
