W E D D I N G S CONTENTS hello real weddings: Tamara & Mitch local love artist profile: Luke Matthews real weddings: Mel & Jayden wedding day pricing frequently asked questions Page 20. Page 22. hello Hi there, my name is Raelene Humphrey and I own a small photography business specializing in newborn and wedding photography, based in Gippsland. Although I say small, my passion for photography and those that I photograph is huge! I love everything weddings; the people, the fun, the details and especially the story that can be told through images. I put this guide together to help brides organize bits & pieces for their magical day, the one they dream about for so long. I have filled the pages with dazzling imagery, ideas and inspiration and most important to me, the photography side of things. I’ve got ideas to help plan the days events; when, where and what you might like to think about when having photos taken. What makes my brain go into creative overdrive? Anything vintage! That rusty fence or hay shed that may be overlooked, or a run down old warehouse is where I would run to first for a photo shoot. Offer me a green paddock or secluded bushland and the excitement grows! My aim in photographing a wedding is to capture the couple inside an environment that is very relatable to them, a place that represents their style. It may be a space that is part of their family history or just a place they both feel they can be relaxed and themselves. I love it when couples share their ideas with me and we then collaborate to come up with a plan for the day that excites us all! Just a few things about me... as you can see from my perfect family picture (taken by my clever husband), which took us 50 shots but still didn’t achieve everyone looking at the camera, I’m a Mum of three beautiful girls who keep me forever inspired and busy busy! This is a perfect reflection of me and the girls as chaos and imperfection is us to T!! I have a studio space in Warragul in which I use to photograph the smallest of humans. They are my other photographic love, newborn babies. The studio is also filled with photos and information and acts as a consultation space for me and my wedding couples. I’m a true supporter of other small local business and have included a page with some of my favourite shops and services to inspire more wedding day bliss! I hope you find this first edition of weddings both informative and inspiring, enjoy! -Rae xx Tamara + Mitch The gorgeous couple Tamara & Mitch got hitched at Wild Dog Winery, Warragul. I spent some time capturing the ladies getting ready at Tamara’s Mum’s home and then popped over to get a few images of the fellas getting ready also. It was a little wet so we decided to drive down the main street and use a few dry areas, and it was there that I was able to utalise the beautiful decor inside Frankie’s cafe. Their wedding was in Autumn, outside daylight savings, so I made good use of the sunset at 5:30pm using, for the most part, the surroundings at the venue. Tamara and Mitch did particularity like a street in town that was lined with gorgeous trees so we ducked away to for about 20 minutes and captured some photographs that were set apart from the rest of the day. I love the idea of choosing, perhaps, one other location that is different. This creates alternative styles amongst the final collection. Tamara says, for any other bride planning their big day, “as overwhelming as wedding planning can be, try and enjoy the journey, as the planning and the wedding day comes and goes very quickly. Find an online wedding planner to help you organise and make suggestions for things that you may otherwise forget. And most of all... just enjoy it!!” Dress 'Luv Bridal' Moonee Ponds Shoes Jo Mercer Hair Francine Hecker Makeup Alarna, Kolorz & Klaws Flowers Warragul Bridal Venue Wild Dog Winery Celebrant Jo Jolley, Adore Celebrancy Local love Rings by Pettits Jewellers Specialists in diamond wedding & engagement rings 32 Smith Street, Warragul Wild Dog Winery Dear Blackbird Boutique This venue pulls on my heart strings. Oh the places you'll go... from the grape vines to the olive grove, and all the other great spots for photos (not to mention the wine!) Wild Dog Winery makes for an amazing spot to not only have a reception but also a ceremony. Take a drive out there next time you have a weekend free and enjoy the great food and wine, the owners are lovely too, which always makes for a great experience. Looking for something that celebrates everything unique for that perfect Wedding gift? Hayley from Dear Blackbird has stunning taste (I’m just a little biased because I LOVE this shop!!) The bouquet featured above was put together for me with flowers out of her Mum's garden... Amazing! So, when it comes to your flowers for your wedding day, Nerida’s advice is to ‘try not to get caught up in the seasons trends and instead, stick with your very favourite bloom of all time and base your posies and arrangements around this for a timeless style. Nerida’s favourite... without doubt, Gardenia’s. Take the time to go and talk with Nerida about your wedding as she truly has a talent when it comes to flowers. This bloke is undoubtedly one talented musician. I am certain you will not leave the dance floor all night! Meet Luke... Tell us a little about your background? I am a singer/guitarist from Gippsland who has been performing at Weddings, Corporate events and a variety of Bars for the past 15 years. In three words tell us one of the best bits about playing gigs? Lets sing! lets dance! and lets have some fun! oh wait thats not three words... What made you fall in love with music? I think spending a lot of time singing loudly in the car to my fathers eclectic tape collection certainly helped. Three Albums I remember listing to a lot growing up in the 80’s were “Sirocco” by Australian crawl, The number 4 Album by Foreigner and the Eagles live album. I also loved Whitney Houston! Haha. My primary school teacher was also a bit of a rocker, he taught me first how to play guitar and got me performing live in front of the school straight away. You’d see some pretty hilarious dance moves out there, has there been a moment you had to literally stop mid song because you couldn’t contain your laughter? Haha there has been few a moments. I remember one wedding up at Toms Cap Winery a few years ago where all of the people dropped down on the dance floor and started rolling on each other in the chorus of the Doors classic “Roadhouse blues”. Where do you get your inspiration from? I would have to state the obvious and say that the music I listen to is where I get most of my inspiration. I have grown to enjoy most genres and the thought of traveling the world and performing to lots of different people certainly inspires me too. Favourite instrument? My favourite instrument at the moment would have to be the Dobro resonator guitar I don’t own one but I love the sound of them! And lastly, for wedding music what can you offer? I play anything from wedding ceremonies, solo acoustic to a full 8 piece band with horn sections at the reception. I have also started doing a little DJing sometimes to finish off the night. We were lucky enough to use Mel’s grandparents property just down the road in Darnum for all the photography on the day. It suited them perfectly, to be surrounded by the land. The rusty old hay-sheds and open paddocks gave us plenty of different settings so we could stay in the one location. And as the fellas sped around on the 4 wheeler having a ball, the bridesmaids sat back and enjoyed a glass of champaign and watched on. This wedding was in Autumn, which is a great time of the year for overcast days, perfect for photography and can offer amazing sunsets. Mel says, “I didn’t have a particular favourite part of the day but I loved walking down the aisle with the kids after the ceremony, our first dance and the photos!” The Dress Raffaele Ciuca Armadale Shoes Alan Pinkus Flowers Warragul Flower Shoppe Reception Warragul Country Club Rings Suzys Fine Jewellers Makeup Jessika Mylne Wedding Day Understandably their is a lot of things to think about for your wedding day but where and when you should slip your wedding photos into your day is important. I like to have at least one hour with the bride and groom on their own, to take photos and this can sometimes require more time if you are using specific locations other than the ceremony and reception venue. Consider room to transport for your entire bridal party wherever you go. Trust me, they provide a great atmosphere and make the process of photographing very fun and comfortable, especially if the groom has a few of his wingmen with him. If I can convince a bride on anything though it would have to be taking a photo at sunset! I promise you, this image will probably be the one you enlarge to have featured in your home. The light and colour you get at this time of the evening is incredible and adds so much life and light into the image. This means for weddings in daylight savings we usually have to duck away from the party for 15 minutes but it is totally worth it!! Also, writing a complete list of the people you’d like in the family photos is essential. There is nothing worse than getting your photos back and saying “OH NO, we forgot Auntie Jean!” My advice overall is, take the time to consider locations that reflect you as a couple; if you love spending your weekends in the bush, or the beach for instance, then find a way to incorporate this setting into your photo-shoot. Remember, its just one day so make the most of it! we were together. I forget the rest. -walt whitman Beautiful, and memorable, wedding photography requires the fine balance between creating the perfect image and capturing the essence of the day that you experienced. Sleeping Grace Photography aims to tell the story from pre-wedding excitement to post ceremony bliss, producing a finished product of fine art wedding photography that documents these moments. Capturing beautiful images of people in love is what inspired me to start photographing weddings and rather than directing it, the honesty that comes from purely documenting this day has raw emotion in it that is reflective of this time. To look back in many years and remember these tender moments that were so genuine will be something that you will never forget. My lovely clients, clients that soon become friends are the people that intrigue me into their story, their love story and everything that this day means to them. Your history and what connects you gives me intoxicating inspiration for what I am chosen to capture. Over the page you will find details about costing and the inclusions. I offer one package that has served clients well over the years, it has everything that I think, tells the perfect story. I carefully curate your gallery to eliminate unflattering shots (blinks etc) so that you receive the best and brightest moments from your day. On average, you can expect to receive roughly 50-80 images per hour of coverage. Will you edit our images? Every single photo that I deliver will be edited to perfection, making sure the colours are just right, ready to print and share. I love natural, authentic images, nothing is ‘over edited’. Do you travel? Sure do! I love to and in fact am thrilled to travel for weddings and shoots. I make every effort to keep travel fees as low as possible in order to make it more affordable for you. Nowhere is too far. How long does it take to receive our photographs? What do I love most about my job? I think it is a huge honour to be a part of someones wedding day, especially if I have my camera!! It’s always a lot of fun too. I get to document two people totally in love and the thought that these images will be with the couple, and their family, for generations is a pretty cool thing! How do we book? If you feel a connection with my work & would like to work together to create beautiful memories, let me know and we can lock your wedding date in. A 10% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. Get in touch to figure out any questions you might have, I’m always happy to chat in person or over the phone! Warm regards, Raelene xx Usually between 4 and 8 weeks depending on the time of year. How do we print our photos? I highly recommend you print your images through me as the quality and colour retention achieved by a professional lab (accessible only to photographers) far exceeds that of a - Kmart photo kiosk for example. If you do however decide to print yourself, I recommend using Artisan State (on line) for products like photo books and basic prints. Do you offer albums? Yes! Albums tell the beautiful story from your wedding day that will be a family heirloom for many many generations. What I don’t do, is supply albums that need to be kept in a box with gloves for viewing! Our albums are stunningly handmade and designed to be kept on your coffee table.
