Our story
The story of Sika-Design begins in 1942 when my grandfather Ankjær Andreasen produced the first batch of baskets, lamps,
flower tables and other smaller interior items made of rush and willow. In the 1950s he expanded his production to
include a series of furniture made from rattan, and the company Sika Møbler was firmly established.
The rattan was imported from the Far East and my grandfather travelled there to buy rattan for his wicker makers in
Denmark. During a trip in 1972, he decided to establish a wicker furniture factory in Malaysia. Since then, the Far East has
been essential to our production of furniture, and today we manufacture our furniture in our own factory in Indonesia. My
father Knud Andreasen took over the company in 1983, however my grandfather still continued his daily “inspection” rounds
in the company until his death in 1997. In 2001 Sika acquired its biggest competitor in rattan furniture “Møbelfabrikken
Horsnæs est. 1940” and today the company name is Sika-Design.
On my 10th birthday, my father allowed me to attend a fair where Sika Møbler was exhibiting a series of furniture. On that
day, I knew I wanted to be a part of his company, and my passion for rattan furniture was started. Since 1996 we have worked
side-by-side bringing Sika-Design into the new century, while never letting go of our strong heritage and values of good
craftsmanship and design.
About rattan
For the collection Rattan Classics, only first class rattan is used. Rattan is a plant related to the palm tree, and grows in
the Indonesian jungle. Rattan is one of the fastest growing materials, it regenerates in 5-7 years and it transforms CO2
into clean air. 80 % of the World’s rattan is growing in Indonesia where we manufacture the furniture in our own factory. All production is handmade by our skilled workers and do not require heavy machinery. Rattan is a very strong
and durable material, and the furniture can last for many years.
About sika design loom
Lloyd Loom is the name of a unique braided material, which consists of a steel wire wound in kraft paper. The production itself is a very unique process, which dates from 1917, where the American Marschall B. Lloyd got the patent for
this process. In 1922 the English company “Lusty Lloyd Loom” got the license for the manufacturing in Europe, since
then the company has designed most of the classic “wicker chair models”, which are still available on the market.
We carry some of the classic Lloyd Loom models in our range of products, and we are so excited with the elegance of
the material, that we have developed and expanded the collection with a series of our own models.
Sika-Design is certified to both environment management standard ISO 14001 and the international standard for
social responsibility, SA8000. The certification is your guarantee that you are buying furniture produced with social
values and the envi­ronment in mind.

About Loom
The American Marschall B. Lloyd invented in 1917 a unique manufacturing method for wicker furniture. It is the same
method which are used in todays production of Loom-furniture: Kraft paper is wrapped around a steel wire, and this
provides an exceptionally tough braided material. In London the Loom furniture is often up for sale on the fine
auctions. Even after decades of daily use, the painted strong merge keeps its fine appearance. Sika-Design has a wide
range of classic Loom models, as well as new designs.

Our high-quality upholstery and seat cushions are produced in our own production facilities. We also handle­
upholstery of your own choice. Upholstery is also available by the meter.
