Kindergarten ~ Five, Six, Pick Up Sticks (Two Pieces) 3rd Grade ~ Simplicity (Two Pieces) Inspired by their colorful imaginations, the children dipped wooden stir-sticks in a variety of paint colors. The finished sticks were adhered together into horizontal rows creating a unique pattern of color and texture. One piece is created with subtle, neutral shades, while the other is created with bold and vibrant colors. Both are approximately 36” x 36” The lesson I’ve learned from my pursuit of less is powerful in its simplicity: when you remove just the right things in just the right way, something good happens." - Matthew E. May 1st Grade ~ Head of the Class (Three Pieces) From the heart and soul of every child, comes threedimensional animal head wall mounts inspired through the themes of: Love, Family, Texas, America, and Lakewood Elementary. Bursting with color, these resin-based conversational pieces come with a name and a book of biographies written by the students in their corresponding classes. Names: Lady Gigi McPhee (10 x 31.25 x 15), Texas “Riot” Ranger (32.5 x 15 x 22.5) & Stallion Strong (27 x 24 x 8). 2nd Grade ~ Metamorphasis (Two Pieces) Every 2nd grader used watercolors to create their own unique butterfly. Each butterfly represents how each child is special and changing ever so slowly right before our eyes - going through their own metamorphosis. The butterflies are displayed beautifully on stretched canvas and framed in a modern acrylic box. Two pieces available and sold separately. 30” x 30” each. Each third grader contributed to create a simple, yet striking piece of modern art. An array of vibrant colors with rhythmic subtractive lines serves to remind us that collaboration and simplicity in our daily lives is a beautiful thing. Two acrylic paint on paper pieces sold separately. 24” x 30” each. 4th Grade ~ My Texas (One Piece) The fourth grade project is inspired by this year's social studies focus on Texas History. Students created small pictures in bright colored pencil, representing the little bits of Texas they love. The drawings are collaged together onto a single panel and displayed within a unique Texas-shaped framework, revealing what makes Texas more than just a state. This mixed media wooden panel is approximately 36" x 36". 5th Grade ~ We Are Lakewood (Three Pieces) The 5th grade students have created three modern paintings featuring Lakewood's own street names. Each child has stenciled their own street name on canvas in a modern fashion. The three 24” x 48” canvases are painted in shades of cream and grey andcanbesoldtoonebuyerorsplitupbetweenthree buyers. Any piece would make a fabulous addition to your Lakewood home! The week before the auction the projects were available for preview in the school cafeteria. Lakewood Elementary School parents, faculty and staff came together years ago to raise the standard of academics at Lakewood Elementary School. Today, Lakewood is an academically exemplary school — proof of what can happen in an urban public school district when community comes together to affect positive change. This same power of community is behind the current efforts to raise the school’s facilities to a level of excellence that will support education reform and academic achievement well into the future. Thus, The Lakewood Elementary Expansion Foundation (LEEF), a 501c3 foundation, was created to pursue a much needed school addition to Lakewood Elementary through a capital campaign. LEEF’s purpose is to raise $15 million to fund the construction of an approximately 45,000 square foot additiontotheoriginalhistoric structure. LEEF believes that bringing the private sector together with public schools to affect real, practical and needed change on the local level is a model for the future. We hope our efforts will create a template for others to follow. Page 38 BLACK & WHITE MASQUERADE BALL 2013 NOTES TO SELF Items I MUST have..... Parties I MUST attend.....
