*INCARNATE WORD
• If NSU were to win tonight, it would be the first time it had a winning record this late in the season since
2009. The last time NSU had a 5-3 record through the first eight games was 2008, which is the last time NSU
5:30
had a winning season.

• The two programs squared off 25 times in the first seven years of the Lady Demon program; since then the
5:00
two teams have played each other only twice. Tech holds a 21-6 advantage, and has won the last 17 meetings.
3:00
5:30
• The women’s game is a first part of a twin-bill which oddly features both of NSU’s head coaches facing their

alma maters. Both the women’s Brooke Stoehr and men’s Mike McConathy had standout careers at Louisiana

turn the ball over less than the opponent, and are 0-3 if more turnovers than the opposition. Under the Stoehrs, NSU
is 11-1 when taking care of the ball.
In 2012-13, Northwestern State averaged 17.3 turnovers a game, but this season they average four less than that.
LFTOJ3P
The NSU coaching staff constantly preaches the order for offense: Layups, free-throws, open jumpers, and 3-pointers. So far this seaon, NSU has kept to that. Of NSU’s 455 points, 216 have come from within the paint (47.5-percent).
NSU’s point distribution this season has been: 56.5-percent 2-point field goals, 22.2 percent 3-point field goals, and
21.2-percent free throw. Based on shots: 54.4 percent 2-point field goals, 18.2 percent 3-point field goals, and 27.4
pecent free throws.
A TALE OF TWO SEASONS
Through six games last season, Northwestern State held the same 4-3 record, but the way the Lady Demons
achieved the winning record is completely different then how they win this season.

BROOKE & SCOTT STOEHR
CO-HEAD COACHES
SECOND SEASON AT NORTHWESTERN STATE • SECOND SEASON OVERALL
LOUISIANA TECH (2002) - BS • NEBRASKA-WESLEYAN (1997) - SS
Charged with the task of boosting the Northwestern State women’s basketball program back to the top of the Southland Conference, Athletics Director
Greg Burke hired Brooke and Scott Stoehr on Apr. 4, 2012, as the program’s first
co-head coaching duo in its then-38 year existence.
The two immediately went to work winning twice the amount of contests
than the year before the two were hired with the sixth most inexperienced team
in the country. The 2012-13 squad had only one senior, two sophomores, and five
freshmen.
With a 12-18 overall record and 7-11 Southland Conference, the duo guided
the program back to the league tournament. Through the course of the SLC season, the Lady Demons upset
four of the top five teams in the final standings including Oral Roberts who went on to the NCAA Championship Tournament, Sam Houston who participated in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WNIT), and
McNeese who made it to the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).
Their first recruiting class featured standout point guard Janelle Perez who was named All-Southland
Conference and the freshman of the year.
Brooke spent the last three years prior to NSU as an assistant coach at Texas Tech and recently helped
guide the Lady Raiders to a third round appearance in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Prior
to Texas Tech, she spent a season on the staff at Southern Mississippi and three years on the staff at her
alma mater, Louisiana Tech following a stay at Arkansas-Little Rock.
The 33-year old was a standout player at Hamburg (Ark.) High School and played collegiately at
Louisiana Tech from 1998-2002 where she served as a two-year captain and starting point guard as a junior
and senior, while leading the Lady Techsters to an impressive 119-16 mark under legendary coach Leon
Barmore.
She was instrumental in leading Louisiana Tech to four NCAA Championship appearances, including the
Final Four in 1999 and two more Elite Eight appearances.
During her playing days, Louisiana Tech won four regular-season conference titles and conference
tournament crowns, while only losing one conference game. The 2001 All-Sun Belt Conference selection
ended her career ranked as the NCAA Division I all-time career free throw percentage leader at 91.5 percent,
hitting 268-of-292 attempts. As a senior, Stoehr was named an NCAA post-graduate scholarship finalist, WAC All-Academic, NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, Verizon Academic All-District VI and National
Strength and Conditioning Association All-American.
In high school, she was named to the Parade All-American team and was the Arkansas and Southwest
Region Gatorade Player of the Year.
Scott, who received his degree in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1997 and his master’s degree in
kinesiology from North Texas in 1999, began his coaching career at Nebraska Wesleyan University and followed that with stints at North Texas, Florida State, Arkansas-Little Rock and Louisiana Tech before leaving
the college ranks for high school in 2008.
At Southern Mississippi, Brooke worked primarily with the perimeter players. Her responsibilities also
included recruiting, scouting opponents, film breakdown and assisting with all aspects of the Lady Eagle
basketball camps.
Prior to her stint at Southern Miss, she spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech,
where her primary duties included serving as the academic counselor, recruiting with an emphasis in
Arkansas and Louisiana, scouting reports, guard development, summer camps and overseeing the Lady
Techster weight and conditioning program.
While at Louisiana Tech, Stoehr was instrumental in development of the guards, which included three
All-Western Athletic Conference selections and a WAC Player of the Year. She also helped Louisiana Tech
claim back-to-back WAC regular-season titles as well as the program’s 25th-straight NCAA Championship
appearance.
She graduated from Tech in 2002 with a degree in business administration and obtained her master’s
degree in sports administration from Florida State in 2004
Brooke spent her first two years as a full-time coach at Arkansas-Little Rock where she assisted with coaching guards, helped with recruiting, supervised preseason individual conditioning workouts and aided in summer basketball camps.
She also served as a graduate assistant at Florida State prior to her job at UALR.
In his first position as a Division I coach, Scott helped guide North Texas to its most successful time in school history, including three conference division championships, two postseason
tournaments and a 43-4 home record over a four year period.
Scott was the position coach for the 2002 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and the
league’s Defensive Player of the Year and was responsible for recruiting regions in Oklahoma and
Arkansas.
At Florida State, he generated and implemented offensive and defensive game plans,
coached the guards which included an All-ACC player, and assisted the team to its second highest win total and its second postseason tournament berth in school history as a member of the
ACC.
He followed that with a stint at Arkansas-Little Rock where he helped recruit the 2005 Sun
Belt Conference’s Freshman of the Year, and spent three seasons at Louisiana Tech where he
assisted the Lady Techsters in making the NCAA Tournament and Top 25 appearances.
Louisiana Tech awarded Brooke with 2012 Young Alumna of the Year.
The couple has a three-year-old daughter, Aubrey, and a one-year old son, Cooper.
