be the difference. change lives Annual Report 2013- 2014 “I hope to embody all that is expected of a scholarship recipient. What a true honor.” – William Keiffer, Scholarship Recipient University Transfer and Liberal Arts Student Your contribution impacts the future of a student. With your support, the Nicolet College Foundation is able to make hundreds of scholarships available to students in need. Their path to success starts with you. Letter from the President You are helping to transform the lives of Nicolet College students. The goal of the Nicolet College Foundation is to help students help themselves and without you, our donors, this would not be possible. You recognize an investment in a student’s education at Nicolet College is an investment in our community. The vast majority of our graduates stay in the Nicolet district and contribute to the Northwoods in many ways. Nicolet students are hardworking, multitasking adults (many with children) who have very limited funds for educational expenses. Small amounts of scholarship money can make a real difference in their educational goals. This year we made a difference in the lives of nearly 300 students by providing scholarships. Your gift to the Nicolet College Foundation becomes a catalyst that sparks a life-changing education for a deserving student and their family. Letter from the President/Nicolet College Foundation Board As the cost of education increases, we must raise more money and manage it wisely to keep up with the demand. Thank you for helping us do this in 2014. Your gift is truly the gift that keeps on giving. 2 Please remember the Nicolet College Foundation in your estate planning process. Thank you for your support of the Nicolet College Foundation, but most importantly thank you for supporting Nicolet students. Sincerely, Bob Martini Nicolet College Foundation President NICOLET COLLEGE FOUNDATION BOARD • 2013-2014 OFFICERS President Bob Martini Vice President Sally Mode Secretary Jolene Johnson Van Den Elzen Treasurer Jim Dyreby EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Heather Schallock BOARD OF DIRECTORS Jim Brown Lee Guenther Paul Knuth Bruce Kotila Nancy Prisk John Schiek Linda Skallerud Scot Thompson EX-OFFICIO BOARD MEMBERS Elizabeth Burmaster Roxanne Lutgen Deanna Pierpont Carl Anderson Benwood Attis Amy Babcock Ella Baltus Amber Bickler Danielle Blomberg Renee Bolding Crystal Brenton Payton Brown Anthony Bunce Joseph Chancellor Arrielle Chapman Nicholas Chickey Debra Christie Amanda Cline Marcus Clure Craig Collins Victoria Collins Sean Craven Christine Davis Ty Donek Jay DuBois Victoria Duvall Colleen Egan Alison Elkins Kaitlin Ellis Angela Fanning Aaron Flannery Alyssa Gavlitta Ashley Gee Sara Geiger Amara George Hannah Ginter Anna Gisselman Lester Gretzinger Rachael Hall Jennifer Hanson Gabrielle Hastreiter Katelyn Hegman Kari Helgeson Kailyn Hogenmiller Kristen Holewinski Emie Igl Autumn Jankowski Jessica Jensen Tanya Johnson Diana Kearney Kelly Keating Krystal King Dakota Klessig Evonna Kostka Matthew Kramer Logan Kroll Tamarah Krueger Zachary Kundinger Meghan Kyska Namayan Laizer David Larson Paige Laven Izaak Lintereur Kirsten Lotz Katherine Maney Alyson Manninen Jessica McInnis Breanna McLaughlin Kimberly Mentz Hanna Meyer Vidallah Nordquist Todd Olson Taylor Payne Taylor Preul Heather Queen Gretchen Regole Maxwell Rich Whitney Richards Laura Riley Catherine Rossier Brenna Rothstein Shelly Ruchti AnnaMarie Savard Annah Schneiderwent Elizabeth Schoone Nicole Schoone Molly Schroeder Carter Shampo Kyle Spencer Alexandra Statezny Cheryl Steines Julie Steinmetz Tess Stephens Stephanie Strasburg Tatum Swenson Saydee Terzinski Rebecca Thuot Nathon Tobias Lauren Tomasoski Kathy Underwood Bart Van Der Puy Hunter Van Goethem Sherilyn Van Goethem Allison Vertein Rachel Vodar Jessica Voelker Donald Voeltner Alexandra Weber Erica Webster Brooke Welch Casey Wilson Ryan Wilson Jennifer Yonker Juday Scholarships Kurt Andussies Sandy Apfel Angela Billerbeck Tammy Bogeman Timothy Bogeman Shelley Eades Christine Gaffron Kari Helgeson Michael Herr Julia John Donald Kiey, Jr. Melissa Klessig Tamarah Krueger Kelly Lacko Scott Lacko Fritz Laeser Kathleen Lanford William Lanford Sandra Lotto Julia Meyer Thomas Nitz Vidallah Nordquist Loralyn Ray Karrie Smith Steve Strauss Kyle Sumiejski Linda Tollefson Lynn Upthagrove A Day for Nicolet Scholarships/Juday Scholarships A Day for Nicolet scholarships 3 A Day for Nicolet - Named Scholarships ABX Scholarship Lacey-Lyn Statezny Gerri Martini Scholarship Jordan Slominski Al & Nancy Prisk Scholarship Francesca Bocek GFWC Rhinelander Woman’s Club Scholarship Patricia Bickner Art Bonnee/Island City Masonic Lodge #330 Scholarship Gladys Mae Johnston EvaMarie Bybee Memorial Scholarship Melissa Blackwell Associated Bank Scholarship Holly Peitsch Gretchen Hoover Scholarship Kaitlyn Baker Ced Vig/Learning in Retirement Scholarship Habush, Habush, & Rottier Linda Sizemore Scholarship Sara Geiger Clayton & Joan Arndt Memorial Scholarship Hugh & Addie Hammerslag Jessica Kautz Scholarship Holly Peitsch CoVantage Credit Union Scholarship HyPro, Inc. Ten Nicolet College students, who graduated from high school in 2013 and 2014 and are also Nicolet Community Scholar Award recipients, attended this one-day event. They spent the day team building, learning leadership skills, and finding ways to embrace their strengths and talents to positively impact others. Many of these students are now actively involved in student leadership opportunities on campus. The skills they are learning in and out of the classroom will serve them well long after they graduate from Nicolet College. The Foundation wishes to thank all those who made a gift in memory of the following individual who passed away in 2014. Don Roberts 1942 - 2014 Don Roberts possessed a passion for Nicolet students, the College, and the community that was hard to match. Don served as a member of the Nicolet College staff in several capacities, including job placement specialist, employer relations and outreach representative, manufacturing success coach, and special projects coordinator. He was instrumental in developing several new programs in manufacturing and building trades, and formed a regional professional manufacturers network. From 2006-2012, he served on the Nicolet College Foundation Board and held several positions, including president. Don believed education was the key to improving individual lives and he enthusiastically raised funds for Foundation scholarships. Whether acting as an employee or as a volunteer, Don tirelessly lived the Nicolet College mission of service to the residents of Northern Wisconsin. The Nicolet College Foundation is pleased to honor Oldenburg Group, Inc. with the 2014 Friends and Partners Award. Oldenburg and Nicolet College have a partnership that started almost 25 years ago. The company provides critical direction for the Welding program to better prepare graduates for employment. Employees serve on the advisory committee and teach as adjunct instructors. Oldenburg also makes contributions to provide an annual scholarship for welding students. The manufacturing company frequently donates items such as steel and wire for classroom instructional use. It also assists the college in hosting the High School Welding Competition every year. Oldenburg Group also provides employment opportunities for Nicolet College graduates and is truly a partner in our community. We welcome gifts and bequests of all sizes. Contributions can be made through: Cash Life Insurance Cash giving is the simplest way of sharing in the work of the Nicolet College Foundation. All such gifts qualify for the maximum income tax deduction allowable by law. Create a charitable life insurance trust. Simply name the Nicolet College Foundation as a beneficiary of a current or new life insurance policy. Such a contribution may help you make a larger gift than you had hoped. Many people choose to honor a friend or loved one through a gift to the Foundation. Securities & Properties Give appreciated securities or real estate that are deductible at fair market value to a certain percentage of income. Bequest Continue to impact the future of Nicolet students by making a gift in your will or trust. Bequests are exempt from estate taxes. Charitable Remainder Trust Make a meaningful future gift, while simultaneously providing income for life or for a specific term of years, for yourself and/or other beneficiaries. When the trust ends, the remaining assets benefit the purpose you have chosen. Retirement Plan Benefit from coordinating your retirement planning and charitable giving. By donating some or all of your retirement plan to the Nicolet College Foundation, your estate can save a considerable amount of taxes while assisting Nicolet students. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact the Nicolet College Foundation at 715-365-4518. Run to Remember We welcomed more than 100 walkers and runners to campus for the Second Annual Run to Remember honoring Kory Dahlvig. Kory graduated from the Criminal Justice program at Nicolet College in 2003 and was killed in a traffic accident while on duty as a Vilas County Sheriff’s Deputy in 2010. We wish to extend our gratitude to everyone who took part in this 5K to help raise money for scholarships. A special thank you goes to Kory’s parents and other family, particularly his cousin Melissa Lane, without whom this event would not have taken place. We are pleased to report we raised $7,000 at the 2014 event and $14,000 since the first year in 2013.
