Today is Allertonshire’s ‘We Will Rock You Day’…
The day is all about celebrating our up-and-coming school Production of „We Will
Rock You‟ on the 16th-19th March and raising money and awareness for The
Mercury Phoenix Trust.
The Mercury Phoenix Trust was founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and their
manager Jim Beach in memory of rock band Queen‟s iconic lead singer FREDDIE
MERCURY who died in 1991 from AIDS. In the last 21 years the Trust has given
away over 15 million dollars in his name and funded over 700 projects in the
global battle against HIV/AIDS.
The Mercury Phoenix Trust gives to a wide range of Education and Awareness
projects, principally targeting young people in the developing world. The 18 million
orphans who have lost one or both parents to AIDS are in desperate need of help
as they struggle to survive and build their lives, often becoming „head of the family‟
for their smaller siblings.
This disease impacts on the whole community, down to the grandparents who find
themselves caring for their dead children‟s children. They too need aid and
information. The way to combat this disease is through knowledge. The
projects The Mercury Phoenix Trust fund are spread across the globe and in total
we have now given to projects in 57 countries.
What is the plot of the musical?
Earth's name has been changed to Planet Mall. As the name would suggest,
mainstream commercial conformity reigns. Everywhere on the planet, people
watch the same movies, listen to computer-generated music, wear the same
clothes and hold the same thoughts and opinions. Musical instruments and
composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown. Representative
government has been eliminated. All are controlled by the Worldwide
mega-corporation Globalsoft, which is headed by the "Killer Queen" and the
commander of her secret police, the evil Khashoggi. Those who dare to stand
against Globalsoft's enforced conformity are kidnapped and "brain stormed" into
submission.
However, a small group of "Bohemians" struggles to restore the free exchange
of thought, fashion, and (most of all) live music. As with the classic quest
stories that it spoofs, the musical includes both a Messiah figure, the social
outcast Galileo Figaro, and a MacGuffin that will restore freedom, the lost guitar
of Queen guitarist, Brian May.
Together with his love interest, another dissident whom Galileo calls
Scaramouche, Galileo joins with the Bohemians to find the guitar, and
overthrow Globalsoft. However, when the Bohemians are captured and
brain stormed, Galileo and Scaramouche are forced to flee for their lives.
Eventually they meet Pop, an older, hippie-esque Bohemian who yearns for
the "old days" when people were free and Rock & Roll was king...or Queen
as the case may be. Again fulfilling the classic rôle of "Guide" for the two,
Pop shows them a fragment of the Queen video (which ends after the
opening lyrics), "Bohemian Rhapsody," further inspiring them. Impressed by
the “heavenly music,” Galileo and Scaramouche eventually decide to
search for the guitar at Wembley Stadium, the location of two legendary
concerts by Queen. Though the Stadium is a ruin, they find the guitar
hidden in a wall. With guitar in hand, and Pop serving as "roadie" for the
two saviours, they perform a rousing rendition of the title song, "We Will
Rock You”
The Allertonshire’s Production of ‘We Will Rock You’ so far……
25th Feb 2015 - WWRY is making good progress and is near completion.
At this stage we are focusing on Act 2, as Act 1 has been finished. We are
trying to incorporate both technology, music, drama and dance in one
magnificent piece. The play has been put together by the children in the
production due to their hard work and co-operation.
Wednesday 11th Feb 2015 - The majority of the cast went on a trip to
Richmond School to see their 6th formers‟ production of „We Will Rock You‟.
It was magnificent, they have set the expectation bar very high for us but we
are sure that we can live up to the expectations. The trip was a great
experience for the cast to show what other choreographers have come up
with to match the theme of the musical.
st
Sunday 1 Feb 2015 - We have had the specialist help of Miss Garvey, a
dance teacher. The choreography is very unique and will look great as they
are all in time with each other as a group. The band are a talented group of
musicians which completes the play. The production‟s cast of characters
are: Scaramouche, Galileo, Killer Queen, Kashoggi and his assistant. These
are played by some of the most talented actors at the Allertonshire.
The play is set in the cyber age of the future when all musical instruments
are banned but one boy, Galileo, is forever dreaming of making music again.
He makes it his job to save music and to make Queen remembered,
alongside his new companion Scaramouche, his „chick‟.
We hope that you enjoy the show that we have worked hard to put together
for you.

Never Too Late!
http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/14_plus/help/Contact-social-sites/
Has someone posted something about you?
Have you posted something about yourself?
Should it really not be there?
If you find yourself needing to ask for something to be removed from a social
networking site, but are not sure where to go, then visit the link above.
The sad thing is, it is not always possible to have everything removed, but you can
try to limit the damage by asking the site providers.
Follow the instructions given in the link and tell someone about what you have
done. An adult at home or at school, at the ‘thinkunow’ website or ‘childline’ will do
their best to help you and keep you safe.
It is never too late.

Hambleton and Richmondshire
Area Gymnastics Competition 2015
On Friday 23rd January, a number of our students took part in the Hambleton and
Richmondshire Area Gymnastics Competition. Numbers for entries were higher than the
competition in 2014, which is fantastic, it just goes to show how popular gymnastics is
amongst all of our students! It was also great to see more boys taking part in the event.
Once again the standard was extremely high, so very well done to all those students who
participated on the day. They were:

NORTHALLERTON/ORMESSON TOWN TWINNING
HOST FAMILY
In May 2015 a group of French families will be coming to the Northallerton area on a twinning visit as part of the long-running Northallerton/Ormesson
Town Twinning initiative. The visit will involve families in the Northallerton area hosting French families, with return visits by the host families to France in
2016.
Among the group visiting, from 14th to 17th May, there will be a family of six
who can be divided into two. Firstly the father and two 12-year olds (his son
and a cousin) and secondly the mother and two daughters aged 4 and 10. Cultural visits will be arranged by the Town Council on 15th and 16th May, so there
would be no need for the host family to be available on those days. Breakfasts
throughout the visit and evening meals on Thursday and Friday will be required.
If you feel you may be able to help with accommodation for this family, as outlined above, please contact Susan Latter on 01609 748612.
Thank you
