! ! Oscar Wilde/Joëlle Tourlonias The Canterville Ghost ! Oscar Wilde’s classic short story in a new and modern look! ! ! Illustrator Joëlle Tourlonias has given »The Canterville Ghost« a beautiful new look with her strong illustrations. Her illustrations are so strong not only because of the special perspective she chooses, but also because of her famous play with light and shadow. In an interview in the Children’s Books Magazine Eselsohr, she states: Where you find a lot of shadow, you find a lot of light. And obviously light has more effect in contrast with dark colours and shadows. In this story of a dark, spooky castle and an almost transparent glowing ghost the contrasts have so much effect that you get the impression the ghost is really soaring above the pages. The Canterville Ghost Oscar Wilde’s original short story (1887) has been simplified and shortened for this picture book. It is the story of Sir Simon who has haunted Canterville Castle for nearly 500 years, but has never experienced anything like the new owner of the castle. This American family simply refuses to be frightened, and the naughty twins annoy him whenever they can. Only the amiable Virginia appears to have an understanding for the poor Canterville Ghost who feels increasingly humiliated ... Joëlle Tourlonias, born in Hanau in 1985, studied Visual Communications at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, focussing on illustration and painting. Since 2009 she lives in Düsseldorf as a freelance illustrator. Her work has already been awarded several prizes.... ! Oscar Wilde (text), Joëlle Tourlonias (illustrations) 32 pages, hardcover, 26 x 21 cm, colour throughout € 12,95 Danish rights sold, all other rights available ! !
