W hich screen do I need ?
P rojection screen
When deciding which projection screen will suit you
best, there are some selection criteria you should
take into account to get the best result. Projection screens represent a very important component in order to get optimum results during your
presentation. The ambient light, artificial, shadows,
reflections, ceiling height… may affect the projection
outcome. For these reasons, choosing the suitable
projection screen for every event is of great importance in order to get a high quality projection.
In order to choose the suitable projection screen you
should follow these steps:
TYPE OF PROJECTION
There are two types of projections, depending on the
position of the light of the projector.
Front projection: the screen reflects the light which
does not pass through the screen. It is the most
common type of projection suitable for personal use,
training or conference rooms. No space behind the
screen is required making best use of the room size
where it is mounted.
The rear projection is most suitable for special events
such as trade shows or theatres where the audience
does not see the projector, enhancing the aesthetic
and elegance of the place. Since the light goes through
the screen, more free space is required between the
projector and the screen.
TYPE OF SCREEN
Projector screens can be: fixed mounting (frame
screen), roll-up type screens (electrically or manually
operated) and portable screen (tripod).
The projection screen cloth in the fixed frame screens
is mounted to the frame, ensuring that there is no
distortions produced by creases in the viewing area
enhancing the aesthetic appareance and becoming
part of the room furniture as a frame-like element. It
does not have either case or plugs.
In the roll-up projection screen cloth, the cloth is
only seen during projections, since the cloth is folded
inside the housing the rest of the time. The housing
can be fixed to the wall or ceiling of the room. In the
electrical roll-up projection screens, the cloth will be
folded and unfolded by a switch or a remote control
while in the manually operated projector screen the
cloth will be rolled upwards and downwards by using
a handle or cord.
Finally, portable screens are mounted on a supportstand (tripod o foot) and they hold the
cloth themselves, there is no need for wall
or ceiling mounting , allowing easy move
and storage. As they offer less stability
than the fixed frame screens, a draught
may make them fall or tumble. They are
ideal for travelling projections.
Therefore, a fixed frame screen may be
used when the room where it will be
mounted shall be designed for projections
only. A roll-up screen may be used when
the room shall not be only designed for
projections. And a portable screen may
be used for special events and in several
places.

SCREEN FORMAT
The content to be displayed will set the suitable format:
– format 1:1 or standard: presentations with overhead projectors or slides.
– format 4:3 or video: projection using a computer
or video
– format 16:9 or widescreen: projection of movies,…
SCREEN WIDTH
Once the format is set, you will only have to choose
the width or height of the screen according to:
– The available space in the room.
– Selection of the base of the screen in order to project an optimum image. The viewing distance should
be a least the same as the diagonal of the screen.
– Selection of the height of the image. Ensuring that
the last row of chairs has an optimum viewing of
the screen.
CHOOSING THE cloth
Taking as a reference the german industry standards
DIN 19045-4, there are 4 types of cloth characterised
by the light density. In CEYMSA AUDIOVISUAL we
offer mainly cloth of the type D and R because of
their many applications.
Type D Cloths: Diffusion. Due to their low gain of
about 1,3, the viewing angle is very wide. These cloth
are the most versatil since they have minimum mounting requirements and the ambient light has low effect
on them.
Type S Cloths: Reflectives. The cloth acts as a mirror, the viewing angle is smaller and the gain increases
towards the center and reduces towards the sides. The
ambient light has a high impact on the quality of the
image because of the reflexion produced by the screen
so that they are suitable for projections at an elevated
angle and in rooms where high heights are available.
Type B Cloths: Retro-reflective. This type can be said
to be the same as type S but projecting upward. Same
gain, angle of light impact same as projection impact
and the room should also be deep and high.
Type R Cloths: Overheadprojector (reflective diffusion). The image on this cloth is projected and does
not reflect the light. They have a reduced viewing angle but a high gain, over 2.0. These cloths are suitable
more for professional than for recreational use. As an
advantage, the ambient light on the viewing side has
a minimum impact.
BORDERS AND BACKING
The black backing of the screen makes it possible to
avoid the ambient light that comes from the back of
the screen affecting the projection. This is specially
important when the screen is not mounted on the wall.
As regards the black borders, not only are they useful to highlight the contrast of the projected image
but also to focus the attention of the audience on a
framed image.

quick installation, easy maintenance and adjust. It results mandatory in the installations to save the height
differences between the screen and the projection
equipment, to escape from architectonical barriers
and to maintain hidden all the mechanisms and cables in the fake ceiling concealing the projector. It
helps as well to protect from kicks or accidents that

THE RIGHT BRACKETS?
One of the most important elements in our installations of projectors monitors or TVs are the mounts
and brackets.
Ceymsa bets on maximum quality components and
we offer a wide range of universal brackets that cover all the needs of actual professional audiovisual
installations.
When comes the time to choose the brackets for the
monitor or TV installation, different aspects of it have
to be taken into account to guarantee the success of
the installation.
The ideal bracket is the one which can be easily installed and that is composed by a robust material such
as iron or light but reliable such as aluminium.
The projector mounts need to be robust, easy to install, easy to put the product on it, have several points
of position and have a capacity to give wide angles for
a good calibration of the image.
On top of that it has to fulfil the VESA norm for major
compatibility with the products. It should have as well
several placing points to get any vision angle. And last
but not least, it should give us security once installed.
These technical aspects are important but the aesthetic as well as the brackets can be seen. The technical
quality is as important for the installation final result
as the design made to hide the connection cables so
that it gives us a better sensation just giving a glance
at it.
