SURFACES INTERIOR TENSION Project: Samsonite Project brief During summer months, when the sun was at its brightest, it was very difficult to view computer screens and the reception area was hot. In addition to these issues, Samsonite wanted to breakup some of the vast atrium space with colour, while reducing the ‘echo’ effect in the atrium. The challenge was to achieve optimum placement to block the sun. Design solution Fabric Architecture’s Interior Design Team recommended FreeStyle stretched fabric panels for the atrium. Using specialist software to determine shade plotting, our Design Team was able to determine the best shapes, sizes and placement to reduce solar glare. FABRIC Samsonite’s UK Head Office has a large south facing glass atrium and it became the perfect canvas for Fabric Architecture’s internal FreeStyle stretched fabric panels. The result is a pair of bold gold triangles and three quads in black and white. Panels are lightweight, fire retardant and were easy to install.
