By NICOLE J. HOY
nhoy@sungazette.com
Established in 1980, Blaise Alexander
Family Dealerships in Montoursville is celebrating its 30th anniversary in July.
Manager Adam Alexander said that he and
his 65-person staff guarantee the lowest price,
as well as service after the sale.
“We treat our customers like family,”
Alexander said. “We are best known for our
involvement in the community as far as with
charities and helping others.”
Alexander help with charities such as
Lycoming County United Way, the Eastern
Lycoming YMCA, Make A Wish Foundation
and the Lycoming County Children’s
Development Center. The dealership also has
its own Blaise and Annie Memorial Fund,
which gives scholarships to students of the
Montoursville and Mount Carmel school districts.
At the Montoursville dealership, Alexander
said children are welcome and a convenient
play area is available inside for them.
“I encourage people to bring the kids. I have
three kids of my own, and it gets quite loud
and distracting, but is nice when they’re
around,” Alexander said.
Alexander and his brother Aubrey are the
third generation in the family-car business.
Their father, Blaise, and friend Earl Emmick
have been in the business for the last 60 years.
Blaise Alexander has success in its nine
dealerships located in Montoursville,
Pennsdale,
Bloomsburg,
Sunbury,
Selinsgrove, Lewisburg and State College.
Adam Alexander said there are roughly
500 employees who help keep the success
going.
“Without good people behind you, you have
nothing,” he said.

By NICOLE J. HOY

Whether you want
trendy
or
classy,
Northern Lite, American
Tailored Clothing Co.,
will give you exactly what
you want.
With 30 years of experience under his belt,
Robert Ferguson, owner
and creator of Northern
Lite, said that clothing is
all he’s ever done since he
was 17 years old.
The clothing company
opened in the spring of
2009 at 190 Broad Street,
and only carries North
American-made designs
and cuts, such as
Harwick, Joseph Abboud
and H. Freeman.
Ferguson said he only
chooses American-made
goods because they are
solid.
“They
provide
American jobs, are a solid
base for our future and
they carry a quality garment.” he said.
Ferguson said that his
store is one of only 600
companies that get a supply from John H. Daniel
Clothing.
John

Clothing is a U.S. manufacturer that, according to
Ferguson, is one of the
finest clothing houses in
the world. Its clothing
cannot be found in a typical retail store.
Not being “pushy”
enables Northern Lite to
stand out in the marketplace.
“The atmosphere is
calm, luxurious, not
rushed,” Ferguson said.

Bostley’s and Fairfield Academy: Getting children to the top
By NICOLE J. HOY
nhoy@sungazette.com
Bostley’s Child Care Centers, located
in
Williamsport,
Muncy
and
Montoursville, and Fairfield Academy,
Montoursville, offer child care and preschool education to help children be at
the top of their classes.
Vanessa Holmes, executive director
of both, said the Montoursville Child
Care Center and Preschool at 259 Broad
St. was established in 1980 by Rance
and Candy Bostley, who established
Fairfield Academy, a core-knowledge
school for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and grades one through eight.
Fairfield also offers summer day camps,
summer math and reading programs.
Holmes said that all of the Bostley
centers offer a theme and “all of the
rooms set the mood for learning” with a
Teddy Bear Safari, A Pirate’s Island and
Dinosaur Digs.
With the success of the Bostley Child
Care Centers, in the mid-1980’s parents
asked the Bostleys to offer a kindergarten, which in turn, led to Fairfield
Academy,
1504
Broad
St.,
Montoursville. The non-profit school is
licensed by the Private Academic School
by the Pennsylvania Department of
Education Board of Private Academic
Schools and also is recognized as a core
knowledge school.
Fairfield Academy and the Bostley’s
centers offer bus transportation, financial aid, summer programs and small
class sizes.
The Bostley centers are extended into
the elementary level at Fairfield, making it easier for children to achieve educational advancement in such areas as
math, reading and foreign languages.
Small class sizes and an experienced
staff of about 18, Holmes reassures parents that their children are in good
hands.
Candy Bostley said, “We wanted to
create a child care system that provided
the highest probability that children
would enter kindergarten and elementary school with lots of self confidence ...
and to provide a place for children to
have a wonderful day.”
Bostley centers offer specific programs for infants, toddlers and a preschool program, while Fairfield provides
kindergarten, and then finally, grades
one through eight.

and Fairfield Academy, call 368-8007

As one of the only companies in today’s market

Dating to 1920, with

Edward Jones has more

nationally, who are mainly responsible for its continuous success.
Tom Breneisen, financial advisor of a two-person-operated

said that “we are the only
company in the nation to
have a decline in employment; ours has had a
steady growth,” which is a
good reason why Edward
Jones is one of the best 10

According to Fortune

ranked at number 2 this
year for excellent employment opportunity; and
has been in the top 10

The firm is a full-service brokerage business

“We use a lot of previous

Teaching students
more than just
how to dance
By NICOLE J. HOY
nhoy@sungazette.com
Providing a safe haven
for children, Judy Hakes
School of Dance prides
itself in teaching its students to dance, rather
than just a dance.
Parents and children
who want to enjoy a safe
environment, as well as
learn dance, can come to
the Judy Hakes’ studio in
the Masonic Temple
Building, 354 Broad St.,
Montoursville.
Business owner Judy
Hakes has been teaching
dance for the past 37
years and is a certified
instructor under the
Dance
Masters
of
America, and now has
more than 50 years of
experience in dance.
“Since I’ve been teaching so long, I’m teaching
the next generation,”
Hakes said. “I’m definitely
teaching my students’
children. I have a lot of
grandparents here that
were here as parents.”
Before Hakes’ ownership in the early 1970’s,
Betty Keller, renowned
dance instructor, owned
the School of Dance. The
business was handed
down to Hakes while she
was still in high school.
According to Hakes,
her dance school provides
dance techniques from
“tots through adults” in
ballet, tap, jazz and hip
hop. She and her six other
instructors, also teach
lyrical dancing that
Hakes describes as “a
combination of jazz and
ballet, and is a very
expressive form of dance.”
With the newest addition of a special needs
class, Judy Hakes and
founder of the class, Katie
Benson, have found success for their business in
creating an environment
for individuals with special needs.
Benson said that there
is not very many things
out there for individuals
who have special needs.
“I wanted to be able to
work with them, so I
thought by teaching a
dance class, I could do two
things I love at the same
time,” Benson said.
Benson, who also is
certified with Dance
Masters of America,
joined Hakes under her
mentorship in 2004, and
will be taking over the
Judy Hakes School of
Dance in late June. Hakes
will be retiring as a business owner, but will be a
full-time instructor at the
new Katie Benson School
of Dance.

than 150 years of experience.
Bennett established
his own private insurance

“I just thought it was a

Bennett
said.
With a main focus in
retirement

Bennett is certified as an

Bennett said that most
of his clients are older
than 60, which led him to
specialize in senior care.
“When I went on my
own, I didn’t focus on seniors, that came about
within the last 15 years,
and I wrote many supplements for ages 65 and
older,” Bennett said. “It
just kind of happened by
accident and one day a
light bulb went off that 80
to 85 percent of our clients
are over 60 and then we
narrowed our focus.”
Along with offering
financial advice with safety first, Bennett said that
he specializes in health,

Receptionist Chelsie Kennedy takes customer calls for Fairfield Auto

Fairfield Auto Group means fair deals
By NICOLE J. HOY
nhoy@sungazette.com
Created in 1986,
Fairfield Auto Group,
Montoursville, has had a
good run, and with this
month’s used car sale, its
success is expected to get
even better.
With customer care as
its top priority, Fairfield’s
Vice
President
and
General Manager Rick
Quigley and President
Bill Manos plan to save
their customers hundreds to thousands of dollars during the March
sale.
To expand its service,
Quigley
said
that
Fairfield has plans to
build a new Honda store
in Muncy next to the
Toyota dealership later
this year.
According to Quigley,
240 people are employed
at the six Fairfield Auto
Group dealerships in
Muncy, Montoursville
and Lewisburg.
Most of the managers
at Fairfield have several
years of experience in the
mechanical work of cars.
For example, Quigley has
nine years experience in
auto repair and 33 years
experience in buying and
selling cars, which is a
reason for most of his
success, customer service
being his top priority.
While creating an
entertaining atmosphere,
Fairfield Auto stands out
with great service being
its main concern.
“People can buy cars
here, but we pride ourselves in taking care of
our customers and treating them fairly,” Quigley
said. “Fairfield Auto provides good warranty with
good coverage.”
At Fairfield, car shoppers can expect overall
quality care, including
warranties of up to
100,000 miles.
