PASTOR’S COLUMN:
Dear Friends,
Last week was an interesting week. But before I
mention that, I want to thank again the students
from Villanova University for their assistance on the
“Day of Service." Due to their efforts, unusable or
non recyclable items were discarded.
As I mentioned about last week, it began with a
notice from the Diocese that there is now an
understanding that the number of priests available
to serve as pastors is rapidly decreasing. Over the
next 10 years at least 7 or 8 new pastors will be
needed. These priests do not exist. I would expect
that this is only anticipating retirements and not
sickness nor death. The average age of the priest in
the Archdiocese is at least 69 or 70 years. Please
pray for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious
Life. The situation with the Sisters is similar if not
worse.
Let me segue into a reflection from St. Francis of
Assisi. God told Francis to "rebuild my Church."
Francis repaired the crucifix he was working on and
then repaired the Church building itself. The story
says God then told Francis, “that’s nice, now repair
my Church." I ask myself, what does this command
of God mean for our Parish and civil community?
How am I being called to "repair my Church" and
how are you being called to do the same? Not
cocktail conversation, is it!
The week was interesting also because of the ways
in which I reconnected with people with whom I
have not had contact in years. In one case it was 20
years with people from a parish where I had been
stationed viz. St. Agnes in West Chester. The other
is a family where time and circumstances had us
drift apart. In the former situation it was nice to be
remembered fondly as a good priest, in the latter
there is the opportunity to once again become good
friends.
What is the point of all of the above mentioned
things? For me, it is Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 and
selected verses 1-8.
There is a time for everything. A time to heal: a
time to tear down and a time to build up.(vs 3)
A time to gather... and a time to embrace (vs 5)
A time to seek ... a time to keep and a time to cast
away. A time to rend and a time to sew. A time to
love and a time for peace.( vv6-8).
Have a Blessed reflective week.
Blessings, Fr. Larry

2016 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL
Thank you to all of you who have made a gift to the 2016
Catholic Charities Appeal. Your support will provide for
nearly 180 ministries and programs helping everything from
youth initiatives to care for the elderly, from homelessness
to growing the Church on college campuses. For those who
have not yet contributed to the Appeal, please prayerfully
consider showing your support. Taking care of those in
need is one of the most important things we can do as
Catholics, and it is important that together, as a Catholic
community, we all take part in the 2016 Catholic Charities
Appeal. To date our Parish has raised $26,747.00 towards
our goal of $36,062.00. Thank you again.

Philadelphia have an opportunity to be part of a life
improving experience. Cursillo Weekend consists of daily
Mass, Adoration, a series of talks given by Clergy and lay
people, and time to just be silent.

Our Men’s Weekend is November 3-6, 2016
