COMPETENCY American Society of Master Dental Technologists Newsletter WWW.ASMDT.COM Vol. 1, No. 2 – Spring – 2005 From the Chairman, From the President, Vincent V. Alleluia Paul Federico What Do “They” Do For Me? Membership in any organization is important to maintain a voice as to an existence within the industry or service group with which you are affiliated. As a certified MDT member in ASMDT, we have something unique. As long as you maintain your annual membership you have the privilege of attending any one or all of the eighteen sessions given at the NYU College of Dentistry, Continuing Education, for FREE. Every time you attend a session from anatomy/physiology to mouth reconstruction, you have the opportunity to reinforce what you have learned in dentistry as an MDT. In addition there is the FREE attendance at the one-day seminar at the Greater New York Dental Meeting, at the Javits Center with up-to-date topics pertaining to dentistry. The tuition for the ASMDT On-Site Course is $5500.00. As an observer, $500.00 or $200.00 per session. So ask yourself, can you find a better deal than this? If you know of one, we at ASMDT would also like to know so we can share it with others. Technologists, who have been through the ASMDT program, need a “fix” to get away from their everyday routine and to have the camaraderie that existed when they took the program. As Chairman, I have seen, time and time again, that remotivation is required to exist day in and day out within our profession and this teaching program is priceless and has satisfied the need. So, the next time when someone asks you “what can you get for a buck $?” look to ASMDT for value, education and camaraderie. Best wishes, Vincent V. Alleluia, MDT, CDT, TFNGS ASMDT in Demand MDT's are in demand as teachers and industry leaders. MDT's are being appointed to the faculty of major dental universities and aspiring to positions of prominence, why not you? ASMDT is looking for technicians who want to become leaders in our profession. It is easier than you think to attend an On-Site Course. ASMDT has established training centers in the southeast and western corridors where you can avail yourself of our instructors. Contact them today. Laboratory: Hutchinson Dental Laboratory Hutchinson Dental Laboratory was founded by Tom Hutchinson in 1930 as a denture lab in Trenton, NJ, where it began to establish its reputation within the dental profession. By early 1965, with the help of Walter R. Edwards, it had evolved into a full service prosthetics lab. With ongoing success, a new facility was built in 1976 a few miles away from the original location. In 1986, Scott Warrack joined the lab, was made partner in 1991 and as of 2000 is president and CEO of Hutchinson Dental Labs, Inc. The lab employs 24 technicians and 3 office staff. Of these, 8 technicians and Mr. Warrack are M.D.T.’s trained by ASMDT. Hutchinson Dental Labs takes a proactive approach to keeping their technical skills at their highest level through continuing education. One of its programs is to periodically cover the cost of sending one of its technicians to the ASMDT On-Site Course. The laboratory’s status has benefitted from having Master Dental Technologists. Scott Warrack says “It’s the equalization of professionalism and the ability to communicate with doctors on their level. We understand that we do more than design and fabricate oral prosthetics. Ascribing to ‘THE CONCEPT OF COMPLETE DENTISTRY’, we recognize that even the most meticulously executed dental treatment is incomplete if it is not part of a total oral health concept. We have the ability to technically execute the services needed with an extremely high level of predictable success, possessing the knowledge, skills and Master Dental Technologists to successfully diagnose and treat oral dysfunction. The result is the healthy maintainability of the stomatognathic system.” Scott Warrack, CEO of Hutchinson Dental Labs, Inc. in Trenton, NJ, received the prestigious MASTER DENTAL PROSTHOLOGIST Certificate from Vincent V. Alleluia, Chairman of the American Society of Master Dental Prosthologists in March, 2005.
