PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS MINUTES 08-23-12 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES The regular meeting was held this night at 6:30 p.m. at the High School Auditorium. The President, Mr. Doyle, called the meeting to order at 6:35p.m. and read a statement of compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act: Roll Call Present Members: Mr. Wells Mr. Ulrich Mr. Haines Mrs. Glawson Mr. Bauer Mr. Doyle Mrs. Prickett Mr. Pinto Absent Members: Mr. Jerome Others Present: Dr. Gorman, Superintendent Mr. Flanagan, Asst. Colonel Cabosky, Base Liaison Visitors Present: Approximately 30 in attendance Pledge of Allegiance Moment of Silence Austin Burke, a 4 year old at the Pemberton Early Childhood Center passed away after a battle with cancer. Services will be held on August 25, 2012. Middle States Presentation Dr. Gorman thanked the Principals and Internal Coordinators for all their work in gaining accreditation. Hank Cram, Executive Director from the Middle States Association presented accreditation certificates to the Pemberton Township School District. Pemberton Township is the first district in State of New Jersey to be certified District wide. Mr. Cavallo went over the findings from the visiting team. A banner and plaque was presented to the Pemberton Township Schools and received by Board President Mr. Doyle, Board Vice President, Mrs. Prickett and Dr. Gorman, Superintendent of Schools. Page1 PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS MINUTES 08-23-12 Committee Reports Operations Committee–Mr. Ulrich Discussed the following: Requested the policy committee to look into a policy of moving an employee from 10 to 12 months and from 12 months to 10 months. Requested the policy committee to look into a policy for advertising on the buses Requested the Board approve the sale of the buses in the Operations section Curriculum Committee – Mrs. Glawson Discussed the following: Ms. Glawson went over the items in the Instruction part of the agenda for Board approval Policy Committee –Mr. Wells Discussed the following: Policy committee will introduce policy 6141.15 for Internet Safety The policy committee will be meeting next month Restructuring Committee-Mrs. Glawson Met with Ms. Hutchinson and was informed the building will have a common planning period and will have Learning Communities. Newcomb will be practicing AVID strategies Early Childhood Committee-Mr. Haines Discussed the following: Did not meet but would like to announce a new teacher at the PECEC and a new strategy for dropping off and picking up Even though the centers were closed there are more 3 year olds enrolled this year than last year Board Liaison –Mr. Wells Attended two Township Meetings and a Borough Meeting Gave both groups a print out of our graduates No questions asked of the Board but talked about the start of school County Delegate – Mrs. Glawson NJ State Board Work Session will be October 23-25, 2012 Public comment on Agenda Items opened by Mrs. Glawson, seconded by Mr. Ulrich Sherry Scull Question regarding Grievance o Mr. Doyle, responded that it will not be addressed tonight Jody Taylor Utilizing before and after care. As soon as the problem was discovered a letter went out from the Superintendent’s office Solutions were offered to all parents o 12 parents have elected to attend Fort Dix o 8 will be staying in the neighborhood schools o 5 still have not responded Dr. Gorman apologized for being late but we do not get the request back till after they go out to the parents Christina Mosley Busing issues regarding transportation to and from the CDC Said she was told there was no room o Dr. Gorman told her there was room for her child and if she had any other problems or questions to call the office on Monday Public Comment closed by Mr. Haines, seconded by Mrs. Glawson On motion by Mrs. Glawson, seconded by Mr. Pinto, the Board approved the following Board Minutes: 1. 2. 3. 4. Grants/Assessments/Curriculum/Workshops/Professional Development 1. Grants a. No Child Left Behind, FY 2013. Recommend the Board accept the following NCLB allocations for Fiscal Year 2013. The Grant is to support the design and implementation of projects that are committed to authentic, hands-on, environmental education learning experience for students in grades K-12. Amount - $5,000. c. IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Education Act, FY 2013. Recommend the Board approve the submission of the IDEA Grant for FY 2013 in the following amounts: BASIC (ages 3-21) PRESCHOOL (ages 3-5) $1,478,466 $41,848 d. Impact Aid for Children with Severe Disabilities. Recommend the Board approve the submission of the application for Impact Aid for Children with Severe Disabilities for school year 2010-2011. Total amount - $651,690 Tuition costs Related services costs $306,964 $344,726 e. Principals’ Evaluation Grant for EE4 NJ.
