QUALITY INITIATIVES ACC/AHA Practice Guidelines Developed by leaders in the field of cardiovascular medicine, the ACC/AHA guidelines address contemporary practice issues. They assist physicians in clinical decision making by describing a range of generally-accepted approaches for the diagnosis, management, and prevention of specific diseases or conditions. Guidelines topics are— New Topics in Development • Peripheral Arterial Disease (Lower Extremity, Renal and Mesenteric, AAA) • Ventricular Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death • Adults with Congenital Heart Disease Published Topics • Chronic Stable Angina • Perioperative CV Evaluation for Noncardiac Surgery • Echocardiography Updated Topics in Development • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery • ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention • Valvular Heart Disease • Chronic Heart Failure • Atrial Fibrillation • Exercise Testing • Unstable Angina and Non-ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction • Cardiac Pacemakers and Antiarrhythmia Devices The College offers a variety of corporate support opportunities around these guidelines and the ongoing education and distribution of tools that enhance the utilization of guideline recommendations including— 26 / www.acc.org/about/corporate_support.htm • Pocket Guidelines—Concise, portable, reference tools for busy clinicians in print, PDF, and PDA versions; • Other Decision Support Tools—Wall charts of key guideline algorithms, chart stickers, patient-provider support materials; • Clinician Education—Regional education seminars; audiocassette and CD talks by experts in the field; slide sets for use in colleague-to-colleague education; self-assessment questions, Webcasts, discussion boards, and other online content on Cardiosource (www.cardiosource.com). A number of these activities are offered for CME credit, and the College is expanding its focus to include continuing education (CE) credit for the ACC’s newest member category, the Cardiac Care Associate; and
