Legg Creations
Legg Creations takes fun and design beyond the limit — if
you can imagine your logo or message on an item, owner Shirley Legg and her computerized embroidery machine can make
the application. Her embroidery appears on hats, t-shirts,
backpacks, blankets, Komet Creations™ stuffed animals, plus
patches that either the customer or she can sew onto a garment or item. “Anything that has a surface that I can fit into the
machine,” she says, adding that she works on most types of
material, but draws the line at leather, which tears easily if the
stiches are not exact. “I’m too chicken to work on leather.”
The same limitless imagination holds true for vinyl logos and
lettering, which Shirley cuts for direct application to most surfaces including magnetic or constructed large and small signs,
or windows in buildings, trucks and cars. She also cuts vinyl
Department of Transportation numbers, a new requirement by
Homeland Security for farm trucks.
The shop’s imagination limits stretched to include messages on vehicles that carry newly weds when a mother recently
ordered a vinyl bumper sticker for her child’s wedding. The sign reads: “And they lived . . . Happily Every After,” with hearts
replacing the dots in the center of the message.
The vinyl and its adhesive backing hold up well, Shirley says, lasting between five to seven years under most conditions,
including inclement weather. Customers can remove the vinyl at any time but, with the exception of magnetic signs, cannot
reuse it.
Cade Cuts®, a cheaper option in vinyl lettering that Shirley offers, utilizes the vinyl cutter plus heat. She used the process
to inscribe names on the Lady Bulldogs’ basketball shirts.
Shirley employs computer technology for embroidery and vinyl design and production. Design Shop software by Adobe
scans the customer’s logo into the computer, which then switches software to send the message to the embroidery machine.
A separate computer connected to the vinyl cutter reads and scales logos to size and then passes the information to the cutter.
Legg Creations, which Shirley opened in 2003 with the addition of vinyl in 2008 and Zoobies® in 2009, serves customers
in Haxtun, Holyoke, Fleming and occasionally Sterling, but Shirley and husband Kenny Legg, expand that base by taking
product to area craft shows, and Shirley plans to develop a website in the near future.
Zoobies® are stuffed animals that turn into a pillow and carry a blanket in the zipper compartment.
Kenny helps Shirley in the shop when she needs an additional hand, especially when working on large vinyl signs.
Legg Creations keeps customers coming back by offering reasonable prices, providing timely and efficient service and
keeping the materials and workmanship at the highest level possible.
Shirley charges by the number of stiches for embroidery work, with a $5 minimum for set up. Cost of a vinyl design depends
on the size, cost for material used and time involved, but Shirley is happy to give an estimate for a specific job.
