VOTER’S EDUCATION/PARTICIPATION TRAINING – TUES 8/6/13 – 5:30-8:30 P.M. @

In observance of the 48th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Alabama
State Conference of the NAACP will host a voter’s education and voter’s participation training on
Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Dr. Richard Showers Center, 4600 Blue
Spring Road, Huntsville, Alabama 35810.
The evening will include:
1. A documentary covering the 1965 Voting Right Act
2. Presentations covering employment opportunities and health care benefits extended to minorities
as a result of the 1965 Voting Right Act
3. Information about the role that the NAACP played in the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act
We will also provide opportunities for voter rights restoration, for registering to vote, and information
concerning Government Issued Photo ID’s.
The focus for the evening is to observe the 48th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and to

J. F. Drake State Community and Technical College offers a FREE job skills training to everyone age 16 or
older not currently enrolled in school. The class meets from 9:00am-1:00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays for eight weeks at the Downtown Instructional Site located at 228 Holmes Ave. in Huntsville. The
next class starts on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 9:00am. Ready to Work is a state certified job skills
training program designed to help participants get and keep a job. Students earn two certificates once they
complete the program:
The Alabama Career Readiness Certificate is earned by scoring a minimum level 3 on the following ACT
WorkKeys assessments that test the skills required for more than 85 percent of all jobs:
Applied Mathematics - Measures workplace mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills from basic
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to multiple math functions like calculating percentage discounts
and markups.
Reading for Information - Measures reading comprehension and reasoning skills found in written text on the
job including memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies and regulations.

tables, forms, flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, maps and instrument gauges.
The Alabama Certified Worker Certificate is issued by Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) and
certifies that a job seeker has the right attitude and the initiative for the job. Requirements for successful
