The North Bay’s economic woes are likely to continue for another year, with little sign of job
growth on the horizon, a Sonoma State University economist told business leaders in
Petaluma on Thursday.
“We won’t see very much recovery over the next year,” said Robert Eyler, who heads the

While the U.S. economic downturn probably ended sometime last fall, the North Bay will
linger in recession into the summer, Eyler said.
“We are looking at continued stagnation locally, at least through the first half of the year,” he
said.

to jump-start the North Bay’s recovery, said Bill Silver, dean of the university’s business

school. The school has held talks with business groups about the effort, which would promote
the North Bay as a spot for job growth, he said.
“It’s been a rough 18 months. It’s time to get off the sidelines and get back in the game,”
Silver said. “We have a vision for the North Bay as a thriving economy.”
The corporation would focus on strategies for job development, said Cynthia Murray, CEO of
North Bay Leadership Council, a Petaluma-based employers group that’s supporting the
effort.
“It’s very important for us to get people back to work,” she said.
