HOURS and SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm (37.5 hours within five (5) days per week); unless otherwise
required or approved by management. Ability to work flexible schedule to include evening hours and
weekends, as required
REPORTS TO:
Works under the general supervision of the Supervisor, SOTT
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT:
Daily contact requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Position is responsible for providing overall support to the Sex Offender Tracking Team (SOTT) and
Special Analysis Unit including some analytical work on noncompliant sex offender cases. The Support
Specialist is the primary person responsible for intaking technical assistance requests regarding
noncompliant sex offenders and soliciting and entering feedback on the completed analytical reports.
The Support Specialist is also responsible for various additional projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for handling all general information requests and all requests for technical assistance and
responding appropriately
Enter all technical assistance requests from law enforcement into the Sex Offender Case Management
System (SOCM)
Conduct initial searches and analysis to determine if a sex offender is currently incarcerated or
registered and compliant in another state
Conduct searches to locate media articles and sex offender registry sites that include noncompliant sex
offender lists to perform outreach to these law enforcement agencies offering SOTT assistance
Responsible for disseminating requests for law enforcement feedback on cases in which SOTT has
provided analytical assistance including entering any responses received into the appropriate report
Maintain SOTT electronic documentation for sex offender registry surveys, law enforcement contacts,
and feedback requests and perform upkeep and supervision of these files
Enter contacts and maintain the integrity of the law enforcement contacts database
Assist with the Sex Offender Tracking Team’s regular contact with each of the state, U.S. Territory, and
tribal sex offender registries obtaining at minimum the number of registered and noncompliant sex
offenders
Update and maintain a Support Specialist training manual and support the SOTT Supervisors with other
sections of the SOTT training manual updates
Process information requests and Not In-file Leads using external (JusticeXchange, LexisNexis, Accurint,
TLO, and Clear) and internal (NCMEC) systems. Some analysis required.
Work closely with analysts and SOTT Supervisors on specific projects or cases involving noncompliant
sex offenders
Assist the Case Analysis Division Managers with special projects and other duties as assigned
Assist Research Analysts by collecting/organizing data that will be analyzed in future Research projects
conducted in the Special Analysis Unit such as the Deceased Child Project
Act as a back up to provide assistance to the analytical team handling child sex trafficking cases with
maintaining accurate records of missing children possibly victimized through prostitution in the
Innocence Lost Database on Law Enforcement Online
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening hours and weekends, as required
Promote and exhibit loyalty to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the cause of
protecting children worldwide
Promote a professional image
Communicate with co-workers, management, Law Enforcement officials, and others in a courteous and
professional manner.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
Respond promptly when returning telephone calls and replying to correspondence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology or related discipline
Minimum of 1 year professional experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent verbal, telephone, and written communications skills
Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
Skilled in the use of MS Office Suite or an equivalent office suite product
Knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications
Strong Internet skills, to include familiarization with social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, Xanga,
etc). Email Search Engines and the World Wide Web
Ability to travel as needed (conferences, training, etc)
Adaptability, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team or in an individual capacity
Ability to handle and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive material and
information
