Peasant Dress

Peasant Dresses are a staple in every classical ballet. From the very first act of Giselle,
to Coppelia, to La Fille Mal Gardee, they are an integral part of each ballet but have delicate
differences and nuances, giving each ballet its own unique style. There are so many ways to
make these dresses.
We will focus on both ballet tradition as well as techniques to bring these old-world
dresses into the 21st century. Class will include two skirt choices:traditional, old-world style, romantic, and a newer, sleeker, full-circle layered georgette design that Claudia has made very
popular with the YAGP crowd. We offer two bodice styles: our traditional Peasant design and
Claudia’s new 16-piece, built-in blouse style with removable sleeves.
Both options are easily changeable/adaptable for different ballets, even non-peasant
roles. This three-day class will send you home with many options and the knowledge to make
several looks. If you intend to construct a costume to fit a specific dancer, you should use our
Measurement Form found on the Tutu.Com website to take your dancer’s required measurements. Bring these measurements to class with you. What to bring to class: Your sewing kit —
needles, threads, scissors, rulers, whatever YOU use when sewing. We supply all of the fabrics
and patterns. If you prefer to bring your own fabrics, please speak to Claudia first to make sure that your choices will
work with our patterns. Trims and ribbons — 1/4” wide satin ribbon for lace-up bodice front if you have a particular color
you want to use. We will have black and a couple of other colors available.

Empire Dress

The Empire-Line Dress is so easy, so comfortable, and so gorgeous! Bias-cut to drape perfectly,
this pattern avoids the “maternity dress” look that can be a problem with this design. Great fit, beautiful
back — this is truly a beautifully flattering dress.
The bodice is an 8-piece cropped. The skirt can be cut as half-circle or full-circle, with 1, 2, or 3
layers. We recommend silk chiffon or georgette for the skirt, but poly also works as do some embroidered
laces.
If you intend to construct a costume to fit a specific dancer, you should use our Measurement
Form found on the Tutu.Com website to take your dancer’s required measurements. Bring these measurements to class with you, and send them IN ADVANCE to Claudia so she can choose the closest pattern size to make
altering easier.

Spanish Skirt
$375
This pattern makes up into a full-circle, three or four-tiered Spanish-style skirt. This design is
perfect for Kitri from Don Quixote and Spanish from The Nutcracker. The costume has a basque,
with ruffles starting at the hip for a sleek and slimming look. The ruffles are attached to a full-circle
under-skirt. Due to the time involved, you will make only the skirt in this class. If you would like to
construct the coordinating bodice, you may choose to sign-up for one of our bodice classes. We recommend the 6, 8, or 10-piece bodice to go with this skirt design.

Grecian Goddess 1

Grecian Goddess 1 is a simplified version of the Diana Dress pattern designed by Jeremy
Bernardoni. You will create one layer of 20 mm natural white silk georgette to be worn over a
nude leotard. This design is great for Diana, Talisman, Spring Waters or Cupid!

In Grecian Goddess 2, you will work on advanced techniques for silk with Jeremy Bernardoni. You
will make a one-shoulder Diana Dress, complete with built-in bodice understructure, using Jeremy’s
Diana pattern. You will learn lots of great tricks for working with silk from a couture master craftsman.
