HELLO KITTY HAT Size: baby (toddler, child, woman, man) Finished measurements: 12 (16, 18, 20, 22) inches Materials: 1 skein Cascade yarns Pacific - White 1 skein Cascade yarns Pacific - Cotton Candy Scrap yarn: Black for eyes and whiskers Yellow for nose US 7 16” circular needles and dpns or 40” circular for magic loop. Gauge: 5 sts per inch in stockinette stitch Instructions: CO 68 ( 80, 88, 100, 108) sts, join to knit in the round. Knit 6 rounds K2, P2 Rib for 6 rounds. Switch to stockinette (knit every round) increasing 2 (0,2,0,2) and work even for 3 (3.5,4,4.5,5)inches . Begin Decreases: R1: *(k8, k2tog) repeat from * around R2: and all even numbered rounds : Knit R3: *(k7, k2tog) repeat from * around R5: *(k6, k2tog) repeat from * around R7: *(k5, k2tog) repeat from * around R9: *(k4, k2tog) repeat from * around R11: *(k3, k2tog) repeat from * around R13: *(k2, k2tog) repeat from * around R15: *(k1, k2tog) repeat from * around R17: *(k2tog) repeat from * around Cut yarn and thread yarn tail through remaining stitches, cinch closed and weave in ends. Main body of Bow: In Contrasting yarn CO 20 stitches. Work in Garter stitch (knit every row) for 2 inches. Cast off. Center of Bow: Co 9 sts Knit 8 rows in garter stitch Cast off. Sew center tie around main body to make the bow. The bow will be sewn at the base of the left ear after the ears are completed, Ears: Pick up and knit 10 stitches along decrease row at top of hat. I did mine about 8 stitches out from the center. Work 7 rows garter stitch K2tog, k6, k2tog Work 3 rows in garter stitch K2tog, k4, k2tog Knit 1 row K2tog, k2, k2tog Knit 1 row K2tog, k2tog (2sts remain) Break yarn and draw through sts. Repeat for 2nd ear. When you pick up the stitches start 18 out and work toward the center. Finishing the Face: You can either embroider eyes and a nose or use buttons.
