Used Furniture and Volunteers Needed This year has brought larger than usual numbers of arriving refugee clients and Refugee Resettlement Services needs your help! We are looking for couches, dressers, kitchen tables and chairs to furnish apartments and volunteers to help set them up. Most apartment set-ups occur weekday mornings from 9am to 12pm. Volunteers Needed to Serve as Family Friends for Newly Arriving Refugees Refugee Resettlement Services is looking for Refugee Family Friend volunteers to work with new-arrival families once a week, in their homes, for their first four months in the United States. Refugee Family friend volunteers help refugee families ease the stress of moving to a new country and way of life and assist them in learning things like how to take care of their homes, how to go to the grocery store, and basic English. Bikes and Bike Accessories Needed We are in need of bikes and bike accessories to be given to our clients who have successfully completed a safety workshop and demonstrate a need and desire to own a bike. Primary uses for these bikes will be transportation. Thus, rather than a recreational outlet, our clients will be using these bikes to transport themselves to and from work, school, grocery stores, and doctors' appointments. We would like any of the following donated: Any type of new or used bike in working condition or in need of basic repair (i.e.chain, brakes, cable repair, tires). Dance the Night Away! We are excited to announce that the Rupert's Orchestra will be playing their eclectic mix of music for event attendees at CCA's 7th Annual Gala on April 26. This will be the first time CCA has hosted the event on a Saturday night, which allows us to add a live auction and entertainment. The Rupert's Orchestra became nationally known for their exciting performances at Rupert's Nightclub in Atlanta, Ge over eight years they played to packed houses and were voted Atlanta's b band every year. They have since become the top party band in the South huge and eclectic repertoire, the Rupert's Orchestra performs everything f Top 40 hits to Motown, R & B, Classic Rock and Big Band Swing. Over the summer they threw a baby shower, enjoyed cupcakes, played games, and had a great time. Best of all, they gave all the gifts to CCA! We keep a baby supply closet to provide new moms with any immediate supplies they may need. Without the help of caring people like these ladies, we would not be able to help those in need in our community. They recently collected items to help fill supply closet. They also took up a mon collection for us that amounted to $854 AACCW is an asset to our community. W like to thank all of these wonderful ladie champions for Catholic Charities Atlanta. ___________________________________________________________ Every three years, our national partners at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) visit our Refugee Resettlement program to review our case files, speak with our staff members, and visit several of our refugee clients. Since October 2010, CCA has resettled 705 refugees with the support of our Archdiocesan community. Over the summer, Mr. Joseph Moseray, Field Support Coordinator for USCCB, visited our Refugee Resettlement program. He was very pleased with our staff, files, services. He gave us a "Gold Star!" ___________________________________________________________ CCA's Refugee Resettlement program has need of a special tilted wheelchair. The clie year old boy who recently arrived in the U.S refugee camp. He has cerebral palsy (spa with motor weakness, a history of seizures quadriplegia with abnormal involuntary mo the head, body, and limbs. He weighs 44 p minimum price for the special tilted chair co $1,500.
