R O C K I N G H A M F O R E S T NEWSLETTER JULY 2009 NEWS All the very latest news and info is updated on the website as it happens. WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 was the first year that British Riding Clubs were holding Riding Test and Show Jumping championships to be held at the Windsor Show. There were not many RFRC members who competed in the qualifiers this year, and indeed, the Area 7 jumping qualifier was cancelled due to lack of entries. However, one of RFRC Junior members, Isobel Simons did have a go. Here is an account of Isobel and her mother’s account of their Windsor experience. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, GOT THE TEA TOWEL. Issy & Deborah – Team Simons We have been riding with RFRC for a few years, with some success, but have a record of just missing out. Four to qualify we are fifth, two to qualify we were third, individually first in teams, no individual qualification. At a recent outing to Manor Farm, we were second in the Royal Windsor riding test qualifier, you guessed one to qualify! Please do not • Present your coupon on the day of the event and expect a refund • Assume we know you’re a member so you don’t need a coupon, you do! Help to earn RFRC £5000 worth of equipment by entering the competition held by Equestrian Clearance.com. All you need to do is to purchase as many of your equestrian products as possible using this link www.equestrianclearance.com, posted on the News page of RFRC’s website, between 1st June and 31st December 2009 * Links through to EquestrianClearance.com and the amount which is spent is monitored by Google Analytics so there' s no result fixing or drawing from a hat. At the end of the year the Riding Club who has bought the most through EquestrianClearance.com will get the chance to spend £5000 on gear and equipment for their club. So a few weeks later we were surprised and thrilled by a phone call from Rose, we had been drawn as a wildcard for the championships at Windsor. Our entry was sent special delivery to get there on the closing date. Our info and number arrived including a very posh souvenir tea towel tied with twine and a recycled paper gift tag!! To make the most of the occasion we booked overnight stabling. We arrived on the Tuesday afternoon, settled Callum, declared for our ride at 2.05pm and retired to our hotel. In the morning after feeding Callum we went to get a bacon butty. The young man in front of us paid and as he turned round like big kids we looked at each other and mouthed “Ben Maher,” a taste of the day to come. A little later we noticed a man on a big grey “Is that Tim Stockdale?” He drew another drag on his cigarette, “yes, that’s Tim.” A few other celebs’ we saw throughout the day were Pippa and William Funnell, Carl Hester and various Whittaker’s Later in morning we had time to check out the shops, as we wandered round I noticed a lady standing in a small group who looked familiar, we made eye contact, I had a hello on the tip of my tongue, but as there was no hint of recognition from her we walked by, I overheard her say “Princess Anne was telling me,” of course I recognised her, it was the Queen! Finally to the main celebrities of the day, Issy and Callum, they did a lovely test and came a respectable 6th place. The head of the BHS made the presentation, the ribbons carried on a tray by one of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in full ceremonial dress. It was a day to remember. Thanks to Rockingham Forest Riding Club and Rose for her encouraging words at the qualifier. So everyone always have a go! You never know what might happen! 2 NEWS MEMBER COUPONS Printed below is an RFRC money-off coupon for the Combined Training Show in August.
