Ampicillin Sodium Salt Cell Culture Tested Product Code: TC021
Ampicillin Sodium Salt Cell Culture Tested Product Code: TC021 Product Description: Quality Control: Molecular Weight: 371.39 Molecular Formula: C16H18N3NaO4S CAS Number: 69-52-3 Synonyms: D(-) α-Aminobenzylpenicillin.Na Appearance White crystalline powder, hygroscopic Ampicillin belongs to the penicillin group of β-lactam antibiotics. It differs from penicillin by the presence of an amino group. It inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis (peptidoglycan cross-linking) by inactivating transpeptidases on the inner surface of bacterial cell membrane. This broad spectrum antibiotic is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. pH 8.00-10.00 In cell culture, ampicillin is used as an antibacterial agent and as a selective agent for transformed bacteria. Many common vectors carry genes encoding resistance to ampicillin and are identified by the ability of the host bacteria to grow in the presence of this antibiotic. Resistance is mediated by cleavage of β -lactam ring of ampicillin by β -lactamase. Directions: In cell culture applications ampicillin sodium salt is generally used at a concentration of 100mg/L for antibacterial use. Preparation instructions: Ampicillin sodium salt is soluble in water (50mg/ml). Stock solution cannot be autoclaved. It should be sterilized by filtering through a sterile membrane filter with a porosity of 0.22 micron or less. Solubility 100mg soluble in 1mL of water Water (K.F.) ≤ 2% Specific rotation [alpha 20/D] +258° to +287° (c = 0.25% in 0.4% potassium hydrogen pthalate) Melting point ~215°C (dec.) Assay 91.00-100.5% Antibiotic Sensitivity Test Complies Cell Culture Test Passes Storage and Shelf Life: Stability of ampicillin solution is dependent on temperature and pH. Ampicillin in solution is not very stable at pH above 7. The optimal pH of the stock solution should be lower than or at pH 7. In addition, the identity of the buffer can affect the solution stability. Store ampicillin powder at 2-8ºC away from bright light. Stock solution is stable for 3 days at 37°C and for approximately 2-3 weeks at 2-8°C. For long term storage, it is recommended to aliquot the stock solution in sterile containers and store at -20°C. Shelf life is 36 months. Use before expiry date given on the product label.
